In case you care:
"Domovoi was the spirit of the house. His name derived from the word 'dom' which means 'house'. The Slav peasants preferred not to call him by name but chose to simply call him 'grandfather', 'master of the house', 'him' or 'himself'.

Domovoi wasn't often seen but could be heard quite a lot. He was described as having a human shape, but covered in fur. Some even saw him with a tail and horns. Some said that he was an animal like a cat or a dog, or even some hay.

The Domovoi became so attached to his home that the peasant had to lure him into his new home after building his 'izba'. This was done by placing a slice of bread under the stove. The Domovoi enjoyed loving near the stove or at the front door. His wife, named Domovikha or Domania loved living in the cellar.

The Domovoi warned the owners of the house of bad things coming their way. The Slavs could hear him weeping before a death of a family member. He also used to warn the wife that her husband would beat her by pulling on her hair.

The Domovoi only appeared when the Slavs started living as families. Before, there was simply a spirit for the entire village named Rod or Chur.Domovoi was the spirit of the house. Whoever knew FFXI had so much Slavic mythology. Polevik, Dvorovoi, Domovoi, Leshy, Vodyanoi and Ovinnik.
Possible Strategy?

Well I'm a RDM43/BLM20 (leveling my Black Mage as I type this, taunting is not needed) and I think I may have a strategy for my job.

Well, I have Diaga, Stonega and Waterga as my -ga spells. So perhaps Red Mage could keep the members healed, Diaga and Waterga, (Stonega would be weak to them, of course) have tank Provoke when Red Mage is too low on MP, Red Mage Converts, Cure III x3, then once the minis are dead, Damage Dealers beat up the big guy while Red Mage Thunder's.

So that's just my theoretical strategy, if anybody kind out there wants to be my lab rat and try it out and let me know how it goes, let me know.. anybody else please leave comments. :D

A fact that's often over looked is that these (and most other non-main BCNM enemies) can be charmed by BST. Most BST prefer to do the Rabbits in Ghelsba, since Mandragora have a resistence to charm. You'll need a well equipped BST to handle one of these easily.

The optimum party for this is:
BST/WHM
BST/WHM
BST/WHM
BST/WHM
BST/WHM
and the last spot being either another BST, a WHM or a BRD.

Is being a beast master really ethical treatment of animals? Can't it be likened to say...dog-fights?

Who says that particular PETA is "people for the ethical treatment of animals"?

Personally, I'm fond of "People for the Eating of Tasty Animals" ^_^

Domovoi (literally, "one of the house") are house spirits found in Slavic folklore. They are usually pictured as gnomelike: small (perhaps one to three feet in height), friendly, old men, sometimes covered in hair all over.Alternative names:

Approximatly how much health do these things have? (the small ones)

I have recently discovered 5 other black mages that have learned how to "bounce" a mob. . . . 5-6 black mages in a circle that cast in a way that would make the mob run the furthest, staggering their spells with about 3-5 seconds between casts. which makes the mob run and run and run and run. you just constantly nuke. Its dead in minutes. A bard is good for ballad and sleeping - if a bard you just all nuke at once, then the bard sleep, all nuke, bard sleeps, etc.)

So could you possibly stagger thundaga, and end up not getting hit once, and killing all the little ones real quick, then slow nuking the blacky. A bunch of blms would have sleep and bind, so Flood probably wouldn't be too bad.
Easy as hell follow this strat.

Ok here is my experience

DRK/WAR
RNG/NIN
WAR/NIN
WHM/SMN (me)
RDM/WHM
BRD/WHM
The DRK pulls the Dvorovoi with something light (we used poison) to the BRD who waits near the entrance. s the DRK is running the RNG (Blinked) Pulled out the dvorovoi(sp?)and takes his 2-3 free hits at which time the WAR/NIN vokes (also blinked). The DRK has joined the battle by now. My job (WHM) is to keep the melee alive while the RDM keeps the BRD alive (CONVERT IS NECESSARY). Once old blackie is dead the RNG just pulls the Domovois one by one. Oh yea the Melee sits on the other side and I sit near the middle incase the RDM needs help with pulling.
We did it 6 times w/o a single problem. The RDM even D/ced for almost a minutes and we did fine!
3 erase (HELL YEA!)
2 phalanx
4 ice spikes
Pretty much it (like 3 refresh)

That is an interesting fact.
You absolutely do NOT need a true tank or 2 healers!
# Jun 14 2004 at 1:33 AM Rating: Decent
When I was prior lvl 40 and prepping for this pwnage I was told by many BCNM 40 victors that it was absolutely necissary to have 2 healers and a true tank. NOT TRUE. Let me explain how simple this was that it could've been accomplished by 5 people. Myself 43DRK/WAR decided to get a crew assembled and take this BCNM on. My RL buddy (Bartleo 52BRD/WHM) has won several of these BCNM bouts and told me that we had no need for a true tank. So, the party consisted of this:
DRK/WAR
DRK/WAR
SAM/WAR
WHM/BLM
BLM/WHM
BRD/WHM
Basically it was very easy both times we went. First fight I died from the initial Flood because nobody saw it coming but was raised towards the end of battle and emerged victorious.
2nd stab we took at this horde was a cake walk. here was the setup. I (DRK/WAR) ran up to the mob and drew attention while the BRD/WHM followed. once they swarmed me the BRD/WHM played horde lullaby on the bunch and slept em all. I immediatly awoke the black mandy along with the SAM and other DRK. SAM meditated to 300% tp prior to battle and waited for myself and the other DRK to gain 100% to skillchain with (SC was Tachi: Enpi > SLice for Distortion) while myself the BLM and other DRK MB'ed with Blizzard. Repeated that process until the black mandy died then picked the other mandy's off one by one as the BRD kept attecntion on himself with lullaby and the WHM healed him he healed himself and the BLM/WHM healed us when necissary. in all the 2nd battle took only 16 minutes and some odd seconds. If we had RNG to replace one of the DRK's it woulda took about 10 minutes. Moral of this post is, You absolutely do NOT need a true tank or a true 2nd healer.

Ummm... was one of the DRK's or the SAM a Galka, cuz a Galka can be a true tank for either of those melee classes lol.

This BCNM is damn easy with the right group. This is the usual static party I have: Drk, Paly, Brd, Rdm, Whm, Rng.

Ok now onto how to beat this guy. Have your Paly run in and get Agro. Then have your Brd cast Lullaby on all of the White ones. Use your Rdm to heal Brd. Use Whm to heal the Paly, Drk and Rng (since their gonna be taking the brunt of the damage).

Your main focus is to kill the black one first, then pull the white ones one by ones away from the Brd. (note: DO NOT ATTACK THE WHITE ONE IN FRONT OF YOUR BRD. as it is the main one he casts lullaby on)

Have the Paly tank and use Sentinel, while the Drk uses; Beserk, Last Resort, (use Soul eater on the Last one if you wish) The Rng just attacks as he would any other mob. The black one casts flood which ABSOLUTLY has to be stopped. The most effective way to do this is have Drk cast Stun. This always stops it.

The main difficulty of this fight is of course keeping the white ones asleep, keeping the Brd. alive, maintaining good MP levels and having the Paly keep hate (although it's really not that much of an issue)

Just take your time and follow the steps I have written above and this will be a cake walk. I have done this BCNM 7 times and have never died.

The drops are pretty good especially: Phalanx (100k) Erase (300k) and Utsusemi Nichi (120K)

other drops
# May 03 2004 at 9:26 PM Rating: Excellent
other drops are

Survival Belt
Scroll: Refresh
Gold Beastcoin
Balance Buckler

(also got Erase scroll)

did this last night. tried twice got massacred the first round. Good learning experience, won the second time

party was:
40NIN/WAR(me)
40SAM/WAR
40WHM/BLM
40WHM/SMN(that extra MP was very helpful)
39BRD/WHM
40RNG/NIN

btw flood HURTS, make sure you have a way to interupt, we didnt see this guy cast in the first fight and it one-hitted the SAM (681dmg). next fight I was able to interupt his cast with Flat Blade (stuns target). Shield bash and weapon bash or Tachi: Hobaku, etc, anything that stuns target can interupt his casting, normal hits wont do it. second thing is to run like hell when he starts so you are out of range when he lets it fly.

Side note: Bard did die both times, but was sorta his own fault the second time for not taking our recommendations.(also he did not have monster signa) But oh well we still won!

Some thoughts on this battle.

First of all, the drops that I know of for a fact, are:

Scroll: Utsusemi: Ni
Scroll: Erase
Scroll: Phalanx
Enhancing Earring
Gold Beastcoin
Mythril Beastcoin
Survival Belt

Recommended party (In my humble opinion)

Drk/???
Rng/Nin
Pld/War
Whm/Blm
Brd/Whm
Sam/War

Really, the only necessities I would say would be the PLD, RNG, and BRD. You could probably substitute the Whm/Blm, for a Rdm/Whm.

Fight the black one first, have the PLD rush the entire group first, with the BRD being right behind the PLD after he gets aggro. Then horde lullaby. Have the PLD target the black one "Dvorovoi", and have him ready to provoke once the RNG pulls it to the side.

Once the RNG wakes it up, PLD provoke, and try to tank like he's never tanked before, otherwise the RNG can and probably WILL die. While this battle is going on, the BRD will have a new target for horde lullaby (Generally the in the middle of all the other Domovoi's). Once they wake up, the BRD will simply sleep them all again. If one happens to wake up early, simply Foe Lullaby it. Unfortunately, now the sync-timing for sleep will be disrupted, so what we did was let the singular awake-mob attack the bard until the rest woke up, then horde lullaby again, to have them all sleep-sync'd again.

Once the black one is defeated, move onto the next target (Do NOT pull the one that's RED. This is the BRD's Horde Lullaby target. Select a new one, with it's name in yellow). Repeat battle just like before.

Also, during the first battle with the black one "Dvorovoi", he may occasionally cast Flood, if this happens, simply have the DRK cast stun. Problem solved.

Now, for foods, have the BRD, WHM, and PLD consume Yagudo Drinks. BRD & PLD should also be consuming Boiled Crab for Defense. WHM can use Orange Juice for more MP. The WHM, DRK should also consume poison potions once the fight begins.

You don't want your DRK sleeping during Flood. :/

I hope this helps!

enough w/ the cute and cuddly stuff, how bout some actual tips on how to do this???
RE: Moving On
# Mar 19 2004 at 9:09 AM Rating: Good
simple to do this
go to jeuno. there is a guy there (dont remember his name, ill find out later). trade him 40 beastman seals. You now have a star orb.
go to Balgas Dais and trade the orb to the burning circle. enter.
simple.
I done it 2 times in a row yesterday and got two scrolls of erase!!!:D
My suggestions for a party: 1Bard, 1 Red Mage, 1 White Mage, 1 Ranger, 1 Paladin, 1 other damage dealer (monks work great)
To kill them is easy too. Get the bard to Horde Lullaby and then start on the Black one. Make sure the bard always has all others put to sleep. Slowly pick of each Domovoi until all are dead. The white mages only job is to keep the bard alive. Red mage keeps the others alive.
there are 7 domovoi to kill here and the only one to be afraid of is the black one, he uses Flood :X
Friendly my a5$!
