My Alchemy is at Recruit level 10. On Watersday New moon (5%), my first two attempts gave .2 and .1 skillup. Was just trying to get rid of 8 socks.
Was in my moghouse using no synthesis help. I do have a water jugs in in my moghouse that give it Excellent water energy.
No way its 15 from socks

Been making these from Gigas Socks @ level 10 Alchemy. I've made probably about 20, and have not received any skillup. In fact, I managed to HQ twice, receiving 4 pinches instead of two. The failure rate is pretty high, but that doesn't really surprise me since this apparently counts as desynth ( You *obtained* 2 pinches of poison dust ), which is pretty unstable by definition.

Did you remember to do your guild test?
Giant Stinger = 11?
# Apr 10 2005 at 1:26 PM Rating: Decent
Has anyone actually skilled up on the Giant Stinger recipe from 10? I did 9 synths from there, didn't get a single skillup on Darkday at 12% moonphase, facing South (just in case).

I was trying to get rid of some Yellow Globes I had fished up. I got an HQ (not sure which one) of 3 poison dust. My alchemy skill was at 27 at the time.

HQ Results?
# Feb 20 2005 at 6:29 PM Rating: Decent
I've been working on skilling up on these by farming for Giant Stingers and asking my friend to spare some time to hunting Lightning Elementals for me... Is it even possible to HQ this?

If it is possible to HQ this, what exactly are the HQ results for each level of HQ?
...

These recipes are terrible! Isn't there a more cost effective way to make poison dust? The second recipe costs 5000 gil to make a stack, and poison dust sells for only 2000 gil per stack. The first recipe is even worse! It costs over 24000 gil to make a stack! (prices based on Valefor server) I'll just buy my poison dust, thank you.

if you are JUST looking to make a profit then yes just farm and sell the ingredients. However if you are looking for the ingredient to use in a recipie or for skill ups this Farming is the best way to do it. sometimes its not always about the profit.

Either catch the globes, grow the deathballs or farm the stingers....

Then you can just farm lightning crystals and it has cost you a grand total of 0gil to make, then you can farm the next steps and make poison potion for free.

People really underestimate the power of farming. if things were easy to make profits from at low levels, dont you think everyone would be rich?

Spend a little time hunting for things and make a fortune, even on low level trivial item such as this.

Sorry, but even if you farm the materials you are still not making profit with this synth, cause before the synth you still had on you stuff that was worth more than the result. The only way to make money on this is to have a huge number of hq results, maybe not even then. The fact is, most people making this are doing so for skillups, and with most crafts at most levels you have to spend a lot of gil to get your skillups.

Time to find a new way to make a profit. There are many, many recipes and items that result in negative profit to produce, even if you HQ them.

It may be expensive but can turn a profit.

Fish the globes, which requires patience. Not many people have that and it is exactly why they give up.

Where to fish:
Mhuara, right outside the bait shop. Fastwater Rod w/ Lugworms. Sell the Sardines and Junk you fish up to the vendor and you've made back what you spent on bait. Especially the Silver Rings 200g. Or if you have the room, save the junk and sell it at the AH.

If you are confident about not breaking your lines you can spring for a Sabiki Rig in Selbina before you goto Mhuara and catch more than one at a time.

Why Fastwater Rods? They work for me, cheap and re-sellable. With fishing skill 10 you shouldn't break your rod on globes.

Where does the profit come in?
DON'T sell the Poison Dust. Save it for Poison Potions which sell at 25-30k a stack. If you fish the jellyfish in Selbina one boat trip away, you can make Mercury for next to nothing. Occasionally you can get them from guilds, but idiot campers like to buy and re-sell them for more money. Losers can't even make a living without stealing from others. Anyway, Poison Potions will give skill ups at that point which gives the possibility the synth could fail, losing your precious Dust and Mercury.

I fished 8 stacks of Globes which made 4 stacks of Poison Dust.
Costs: Bait and 4 stacks of Lightning Crystals (12k) or zero if farmed from Lightning Elements.

I fished and bought 16 stacks of Jellyfish which made 4 stacks of Mercury.
Costs: Small amount of Jellyfish (from guilds not AH), bait, and 4 stacks of Lightning Crystals (12k).

48 Poison Dusts = 0
48 Mercury = 0
48 Water Crystals = 4k

4 stacks of Poison Potions @ 30k = 120k - expenses (30k) = 90k profit & alchemy skill ups.

That's how I got from Alchemy 7-18 in one night. No...seriously.

Yellow globes are trivial to catch off Jeuno Port with a Sabiki Rig, sturdy small-fish rod and a fishing skill in the teens. I pull up 2 or 3 at a time, making this recipe suddenly cost-effective (farm your lightning clusters in Qufim if you can, Konschtat if you can't).

3/12 at level 5.8 succeeded. Its all there is between levels, sort of expensive.

Note the ninja item at alchmy lvl 0 sold for 1k / 100 in a store vs 700 in the ah.

worked for me

Since 5

I have been able to make this (failed on about 2) from skill level 5 - 10(started crafting something else).

This is marked way to high
way too high
# Jan 27 2004 at 1:41 AM Rating: Default
The old skill level of 4 was correct. I can make this and still gain alchemy skills at 4. If it was above an amateur level, I wouldn't be able to make it.

The level given is a skill cap, not a minimum requirement. You can try on any level, but with a very low chance of success if you're too low. But from the cap level on, you won't gain skill anymore.
