Lore
You were the Brigade General of a Special Ops force, the Mirage Legion, answering only to Yustiel(?), and so great was your prowess in battle that the people of Sanctum hailed you as "the Thirteenth Empyrean Lord"[1].

Your legion had been plagued by a series of failed ops. Esus discovered that the traitor was Icaronix, but was too late to stop your deployment on a mission that was set up in response to false intelligence provided by Icaronix[2].

In the Abyss, at a place called Karamatis, your legion was ambushed and, after an incredible battle with a Nagarant General of the Balaur forces, "something" happened. You appeared to release some incredible force and, afterwards, you apparently lost your memory and awoke in Poeta as a Mercenary recruit.[3]

After you were gone, Icaronix deceived and murdered Esus to cover his tracks[4].

In Verteron you first encounter a story you will continue to run into... the tale of Kato and Garnis, and the toxin/drug they invented called Meslamtaeda's Blood. The Source of the Pollution in this region turns out to be the corrupted and mutated body of the Daeva who once was Kato. You kill the creature, Poisonous Bubblegut, freeing Kato to rejoin the flow of Aether.[5]

In Eltnen you discover two tales of loves lost, both in Agairon Village. The first is the story of Hannet and Denlavis. They were lovers but Hannet lost him after he Ascended and, in a place called the Fire Temple, he vanished. He was captured by an Asmodian named Kromede the Corrupt and they became lovers. After lying to Hannet, to protect her, and telling her that Denlavis is dead, Hannet charges you to kill his lover.[6]

The second tale is that of Aerope and Isson. Isson was blamed for a tragedy and driven away. He returned years later, embittered, as a Lepharist commander and has been poisoning the Mystic Spring of Agairon with Meslamtaeda's Blood. You are sent to kill him, and then to place flowers on his grave.[7]

In Heiron, you finally meet Kato's partner, Garnis, a high-ranking Lepharist that has continued his research into Meslamtaeda's Blood, using it both as a poisonous weapon and as an agent to mutate harmless creatures into terrible monsters[8]. You track him down to the Lepharist Research Center and end his life.

As you recover your memories you discover that Icaronix is, in fact, a Lepharist. More, Esus was also serving two masters as he was a member of an organization known only as The Shadow. The Shadow Elders are apparently a group of Elyos and Asmodian Daevas that believe that Atreia can be re-united and made whole again, and that the Elyos and Asmodian should not be fighting each other.[9]

You set out to destroy the traitor, Betrayer Icaronix, finally tracking him to Azoturan.[10]
