WOW Guide Arkenstone's Guide to Shartuul's Transporter

Arkenstone's Guide to Shartuul's Transporter

The topic I will be addressing in this guide is how to beat the Shartuul's Transporter event stationed in Blades Edge Plateau. To access this event, also known by the name "Legion Ring" you must first be honored with the ogres of Ogri'la. At this point, you will be given the quest "Banish the demons" which involves going into one of the forge camps nearby and slaughtering demons near a banishing portal which you can summon. Once you do this for the first time, you are immediately given a Darkrune. This can be given to another ogre nearby and turned into a Crystalforged Darkrune. You now have the item needed to begin the event, however, I recommend also gathering 5-9 Charged Crystal Foci if it is your first time trying this event and you want to beat it. These items allow your demon to use special attacks.

The main objective of this event is to posess a demon and battle waves and waves of other demons, eventually ending up in a battle between you, and an eredar warlock called Shartuul. To begin this event, walk up to the transporter, use the Crystalforged Darkrune, and posess the demon.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This event ultimately leads to some pretty nice drops such as BoE depleted blue items, BoE epic depleted items, and some nice BoP rings. If you are in a party, and if you do not trust the members of your party, leave it. When you loot the final boss the loot will come up in loot windows, and can be ninja'd.

And now, on to the event proper

PHASE ONE

In phase one you control a demon called a Felguard Degrader. It has 6 abilities which are as follows.

Mortal Strike: Will pretty much one shot any demon in phase one that you point it at, unless it misses, which it does fairly often. 4 second cooldown on this one.

Mighty Whirlwind: The typical warrior spinning top move, use when surrounded by nasty felhounds and when your chaos charge ability is on a cooldown. 25 second cooldown.

Terrifying Roar: AoE fear, useful if you're in trouble and need a few seconds to recover. Also a key ability in beating the boss of this phase. 15 second cooldown.

Chaos Charge: By FAR the second most important move this demon has, instrumental to keeping you alive. This ability charges your target, and then a second later lets off a powerful AoE that insta-kills anything in range. The delay in AoE damage means that you can be surrounded by mobs, charge a mob thats JUST in range, all the mobs that were beating on you will follow behind you, and bam, all dead. 15 second cooldown, 8 yard minimum range.

Smash Shield: The most important ability in this encounter. You can use it the minute you control the demon. it weakens the shield on the transporter by 12.5%, meaning it takes exactly 8 throws to destroy the shield and unleash the boss.

Absorb Life: This demon's special ability, is supposed to deal alot of AoE damage and heal the demon you alot, but is currently bugged. This consumes a Charged Crystal Focus.

At the start of phase one, instantly use smash shield to weaken the shield. You will need to use this every time the cooldown is up, so keep an eye on it. For the start of this phase, only one or two felhounds will spawn at a time, dispose of them with mortal strike and get a feel for the demon. Eventually you will begin to be swarmed by felhounds. The most common mistake here is trying to whirlwind them to death. This ultimately takes too much time, and means you lose more health in the long run. When you are surrounded by felhounds, simply target one of the imps that is nuking you from a distance, and use chaos charge. The felhounds will hopefully follow you and be wiped out by the subsequent AoE. Rinse and repeat, using fear if things get dicey. However, make sure that when you throw the final hammer at the shield that your fear and chaos charge aren't on cooldown.

A boss will spawn and head straight for you, a Doomguard Punisher. This guy is easy, charge him the minute he comes out of the transporter, mortal strike twice, and fear. Once fear breaks and chaos charge is off cooldown, charge him again, MSx2, fear. The next charge should kill the Doomguard if it's not already dead. Congratulations, you beat beginner mode. Now you move on to Legendary mode....what? That can't be right surely?

PHASE TWO

You now change demons and control the Doomguard Punisher. This guy has new abilities which I have listed below.

Punishing Blow: This will be your friend in this phase. Deals moderate damage under normal circumstances. However, when your target is under any type of stun effect, this damage is TRIPLED. It also gives the darget a debuff which reduces the damage that they deal. 3 second cooldown.

Fel Flames: Deals about 3000-4000 damage per tick to all enemies in front of the caster for 15 seconds, ideal for taking out large groups of annoying gran'arg demons. This ability "seems" to be channeled at first, but you can actually move around while using it, so use it often :) 15 second cooldown.

Throw Axe: The first of the Doomguard's stunning attacks, this throws an axe at the target dealing a small ammount of damage and stunning the target for about 3 seconds. It has a minimum range of 5 yards, so strafe away from the target in order to use it. Use in combination with Punishing Blow for high damage. 8 second cooldown.

Super Jump: The second Doomguard stun move. Your demon jumps up in the air, stunning any enemies close as it does, moves towards your target, and stuns again when it lands. The stun lasts for about 8 or so seconds, so its easy to get 2 punishing blows in. this ability also does fairly moderate damage and has a minimum range of 5 yards. Again, strafing away from your target is your friend here. 15 second cooldown.

Consume Gran'arg: The ability you need in this phase to keep your demon alive. Does a hefty ammount of damage to Gran'arg type enemies (about 30-35k) and heals you for the ammount of damage dealt. This ability has a minimum range of 10 yards, strafe is your friend!

Dive Bomb: Your demon's super attack. It flies up into the air, gains a shield which reflects all magic spells cast, and begins to bomb the whole area. Its best to save this for the boss in this phase when you are in a close contest with the boss and don't want to leave it down to luck and / or skill.

This phase is this event's "Legendary" mode. At the start of this phase, your health will be restored to full. In this phase there is no shield to destroy, and Overseer Shartuul doesn't seem too happy about it. The phase starts off with small packs of 2 Gran'args spawning. Practice strafing away from them, using stuns, and utilising the punishing blows at the best times. At low health, these Gran'args enjoy running away from you and trying to summon fel cannons. They channel a beam into the ground for about 6 seconds, and if you dont stun or kill them in that time, a mini fel cannon will appear which does some nasty damage. Punishing blow can one-shot these.

Eventually, packs of 4-6 Gran'args and one large Mo'arg will spawn. The trick to this is to keep an eye out for the yellow thunderbolts striking the ground that signal enemies about to spawn. When you see them growing, target the large Mo'arg, Super jump in, punishing blow, punishing blow, run out, throw axe, back in, punishing blow. If nothing misses, you got yourself a dead Mo'arg. Now focus on taking out the packs of Gran'args before they overwhelm you with fel cannons.  After a few of these large packs, Shartuul will tell you to look inside the transporter at his next "surprise".

A Shivan assassin will spawn with 3 more Gran'args and begin to nuke you down. This mob is a spellcaster, so the objective is to constantly interrupt with stuns from super jump and throw axe. If things get desperate, use your Bombing-run special ability. When you defeat this demon, you posess it and begin the final phase of the encounter.

PHASE THREE

Congratulations, you have beaten the hardest part of this encounter. Its pure tactics, patience, and fast reaction times from now on.

The Shivan assassin has a grand total of 10 offensive abilities, and the option to change between 3 forms, which I will list below

ASPECT OF THE SHADOW

This is your health regeneration aspect. You should begin each of the following boss fights in this aspect.

Death Blast - 2.5 second cast time. Deals 11-12k Shadow damage to the target. If the target is affected with Siphon life then the siphon life spell will be consumed and the demon will be healed for an ammount equal to the damage dealt.

Siphon Life - Insta-cast. Heals about 2.1k per tick to your demon. 30 second cooldown.

Shadow Nova - Insta-cast. Blasts shadow energy around the target in about a 10 yard radius. Any targets that were hit and still alive are given a 15 second debuff which heals the demon for about 2.5k per tick.

ASPECT OF THE FLAME

This is your main damage output for this phase in most circumstances. It also offers a passive +30% movement speed increase, ideal for kiting enemies and keeping away from them.

Pyroblast: 2.5 second cast. Deals about 18-20k damage to the enemy. Flame Buffet increases this damage.

Flame Buffet: Insta-Cast, stacks to 10. Deals about 5k damage to the target and leaves a debuff that increases fire damage taken by 5000. Lasts for 60 seconds. 10 second cooldown.

Cleansing Flames: Insta-Cast. Removes one debuff from the caster. 8 second cooldown.

ASPECT OF THE ICE

This is a situational aspect, not used too much for nuking, but used for its incredibly useful Iceblock defensive ability.

Iceblast: 2.5 second cast. Deals about 10k damage to the target. Damage doubled if the target is frozen.

Icy Leap: Insta-cast. Frost nova-esque attack. Traps the enemy in ice and pushes  your demon backwards about 10 yards.

Ice Block: Insta-cast. Encases the caster in a block of ice for four seconds, making them immune to physical damage and Reflecting all spells cast on them. This is a very important ability, and the main reason to use aspect of the ice.

Finally, there are two VERY important things that all forms share. The first is 2 buttons to change into one of the 2 forms not currently selected. This spell can be cast while moving, and takes 1.5 seconds. There is about a 10 second cooldown before you can change forms again, so beware! The second of these important things is the Shivan Assassin's special ability, Chaos strike. This has a variety of effects, and consumes TWO Charged Crystal Foci.

Chaos Strike: 2.5 second casting time. Deals very high damage and a special effect. If the target is frozen it triples the damage done. If the target is affected by flame buffet it takes extra damage. If the target is affected by siphon life it gets a temporary weakness effect which increases damage taken by 50,000. Using death blast after weaking a siphoned enemy and following it up with shadow nova heals the demon for a considerable ammount. Re-applying siphon life and then using death blast again WILL heal your demon to full. 15 second cooldown.

PHASE THREE BOSSES

In phase three, instead of fighting off waves of demons, Shartuul decided that he has had enough of you and decides to have some fun. He has 2 "pets" for you to meet. The first of these pets is a beholder called the Eye of Shartuul.

The Final Phase: Eye of Shartuul

Begin this battle in shadow aspect. The second you see the eye apply siphon life and use shadow nova, then change into flame aspect and start stacking flame buffets while pyroblasting. Make sure to keep a distance between you and the eye , as it can do a nasty tongue lash attack which gives a debuff. Every so often, you will get a warning in the middle of your screen saying "The eye of shartuul focuses intently". When you see this, shift to ice aspect and use ice block. It will reflect the 100k beam and hit the eye for 50k. Repeat this tactic, shifting into shadow aspect and using death blast when siphon life is up to regain health and then re-applying it. The eye also places disruption zones at random around the battlefield, which periodically stun you if you enter them. Try to stay out of them if you can help it.

Once you defeat the Eye of Shartuul, the second boss comes out to play, a giant core hound called Dreadmaw.

The Final Phase: Dreadmaw

Once again, begin the phase in shadow aspect. Apply siphon life, shift to flame aspect, and begin stacking flame buffets again. In this fight you have to constantly kite Dreadmaw around the transporter, making sure he doesnt get in melee range. This is quite easy with Flame aspect's +30% movement speed. Every so often, you will get a message saying "Dreadmaw lashes out and opens a large gash in Shivan Assassin's side". When you get this message, cleanse it with cleansing flames, and quickly move out of dreadmaw's immediate path, as he gains a brief speed increase after using this attack. Rinse and repeat until Dreadmaw is dead.

Shartuul is pissed, and has had enough. Its Eredar Warlock time.

The Final Phase: SHARTUUL

In this phase of the fight, he spawns lots of C'thun-like eyes around the battlefield which mind-flay nearby people who may try to help. You're on your own.

He has 4 main abilities. Shadow bolt, which he constantly fires at you. A debuff which increases shadow damage taken by 10,000, Magnetic pull and Incinerate, which hits for HIGH damage. Magnetic pull teleports you to Shartuul, who then instantly teleports away to a random place within the battle-zone. Once again, start out in shadow aspect, apply siphon life, and start stacking flame buffets. When you see him start to cast incinerate, you can either grin and bear it, or shift into ice aspect and ice block to reflect it. Then shift back into flame aspect and keep stacking flame buffets. Remember to shift into shadow aspect about every minute to death blast shartuul and re-apply siphon life.

If you ever get low on life, or just want to do a sick ammount of damage to Shartuul, apply siphon life and then follow up with a chaos strike. Then you can use death blast to heal to full, and keep on death blasting for super damage. A helpful hint. BEFORE the debuff from chaos strike wears off, re-apply siphon life. It now will heal you for about 10k a tick instead of 2k, making the fight very easy. Eventually Shartuul will crumple, and you can go and collect your reward.

THE REWARDS

The rewards from this event are brilliant. They can be any one of the blue BoE "depleted" items that drop off BEM plateau mobs, or one of the 2 EPIC BoE "depleted" items that drop off BEM plateau mobs. He can also drop one of 2 BoP epic rings, a caster ring, and a melee ring.

So, thats basically it for this guide. There ARE tips that involve outside help, but I am just after clearing the event today, and outside help is most certainly NOT needed. It would just take away from the sense of achievement :)

Happy eredar hunting!
