Maleko spawn spot.

Maleko spawned for me at the entrance to the bridge where 2 goblins spawn.
Maleko spawn spot.

First, location info: The island directly east of the Katta whirlpool. On the Southeast corner of that island is a bridge and tower, with 'Tidewater' goblins both on land and underwater. Just west of the bridge is a cave, guarded by two goblins. I cleared the cave and the bridge area, as well as the goblins all around the bridge, under water. You'll find many 'huts' underwater with a goblin in most.

After about 6 cycles, I got him to spawn. Interestingly, he spawned inside the tower at the end of the bridge, above water. Another post mentioned he was at the end of the bridge, on land. So it appears that he can spawn from any Tidewater goblin spawn. They all seemed to range in level from 74-76. So for your best chance of spawning him, it would be smart to clear any Tidewater goblin you find. They spawn fairly quickly, so clearing the cave and the bridge, plus all underwater goblins should keep you busy, but manageable if you can kill them quickly. On my 95 rogue, they drop in a couple rounds, yet I was still able to complete a cycle and have a minute to spare before repops.
Spawning Maleko

I can usually log in and kill for an hour or so and get at least one spawn of Maleko in the tower at the end of the bridge. The only tidewater mobs that I cycle are the two statics out in front of the bridge, the roamer on the bridge and the two in the tower.

I have spent about 50 hours clearing nearly every tidewater goblin and and have only seen this mob if I am the first on here after a patch which I missed the mob again this morning.

Whoever the idiot is who put about 3% chance to spawn is dead Fing wrong!! I have killed thousands of phs and not gotten it once from a respawn.

C'mon SONY, this is assanine on your part. I have done more rewarding quests like epics (1.0, 1.5, 2.0), SoD augs, gotten full suits of armor in the time I wasted trying to get this one named. It just shows how much you really don't give a hoot about the players. I guess I am gonna have to fire up the WoW accounts again. /rude

That's funny because I saw two of them within 15 minutes of each other this morning after clearing once.

LOL!!! 20 minutes after I posted this, he popped in the tower thingy at the end of the bridge. I killed the 4 on bridge and the one marked on map, just those 5. Prolly have better results wiping entire island of em, but thats too much work LOL.
check all possible spots
# Jul 30 2009 at 12:44 AM Rating: Decent
just fyi folks yes he can spawn off any water gobby on the island so just because you are only camping and kiling a certain area you NEED to check all the gobby spawn areas in case he is already up somewhere.. sure would suck to camp him for 10 hours and all that time he is up in a different spot
Was up after patch
# Feb 11 2009 at 11:44 PM Rating: Decent
I confirm that he pops after zone reset/patch.
He was up in the northern single underwater hut when I found him after servers came up after patch last night.
Dropped the totem piece and the belt.

This mob has no specific placeholder. Can spawn at any location that has a Tidewater Goblin.

Killed only his placeholder for 1 hour, and he popped. Killed the placeholder for 24 hours before he repopped.
Easy Pop!

I just ported to TBS and tracked this gobbie down after the server reset from a maintenance shut down. When multiple spawns go up, I suppose there is a slightly greater chance that one spot will contain this named mob! He was an easy non-summoning warrior. Just pulled to the beach, snared, rooted, and dotted away.

I've been camping these stupid water goblins for the past 3-4 days, 6+ hours each, and I have not seen this named spawn even once, after clearing the bridge and the underwater alcoves. This is one serious case of the WTFs.

I can understand that SOE placing a lot of timesinks on these quests to force their players to invest time in the game, but this is just beyond retarded.

Increase the spawn rate on this mob. I would like to move on to other more fun quests; I want to play EverQUEST, not EverCAMP.

This mob can quad.
Max hit was 1446 on my monk with 2.5k ac and almost full defensive AAs.
He did not cast any spell during the fight.
Is snareable, rootable, does not flurry, does not enrage, does not summon.

Easy to solo if you can kite.
bridge better

Camped Maleko for multiple toons. The easiest method seems to be the bridge method that DHeitzman mentioned. Have seen him spawn underwater but the terrible pathing in the water and having to deal with fighting underwater makes just clearing the bridge much more desirable.
not bad
# Sep 24 2007 at 11:18 AM Rating: Decent
I cleared the bridge 6 times (5 mobs total each clear) and he spawned inside the building at the end of the bridge. Yellow con, doesn't summon, maybe a few more HP than normal mob, in other words a piece of cake.

Was camping gobbies for about 1.5 hours with a few guildies and this guy spawned south of ramp enterence...a bit away from the trees and boulders. He dropped the belt and the totem.
Dry spell, then twice in a row...
# Sep 09 2007 at 3:08 PM Rating: Decent
Saw him spawn twice today. After five hours of no spawns, he popped at the underwater static point off the NE tip of the beach outside the hut. (My version of maps has this point marked).

He dropped the totem, meat, and belt. Right afterward he popped again, but not sure where he was pulled from.

Easy solo kiteable kill once he showed up.
He is rare no joke

Folks don't be fooled for a second. SOE has, "tweaked" named mobs and their chances of popping. Ultimately, your only choice is to keep pulling until he pops, whether it is 30 minutes or 2 weeks. I heard Lutz was tough to pop, and I got him 3 in a row, but have spent over 15 hours camping Maleko to no avail. It seems (and I stress seems) that once you see or hear about the new nameds popping they tend to pop in multiple succession, then have long dry spells, or if not in succession several singles in the same amount of time. So if 5 popped in a row and the interval is supposed to be 6-12 hours, you might not see him again for 60 hours, but then who in their right mind could hold the camp that long? Surely as soon as you log off he will pop. Several folks and myself have tried to figure out some better way to spawn this guy, and the simple fact is, it is random and has a random PH. We even formed a raid to make sure all the goblins were dead as not to miss any. For 6 hours we killed them all (including other locals) and nada. My wish to all of you is best of luck I hope he spawns soon, and maybe bring some cards to the camp to fight the boredom :)

can you cite proof for this?
the chances of him spawning are random. I've seen him twice in a row, some people have seen him 3 times in a row, some peolpe have not seen him for days.

Definitely not an uber rare spawn. Got him to spawn twice in 2 hrs.
Can spawn in multiple locations
# Apr 09 2007 at 5:06 PM Rating: Decent
He does not have just a single spawn point, despite what some of the walkthroughs say.

We have killed him about 4 times so far, and all four times he has spawned at the base of the bridge or on the bridge.

I think there's a very slim chance of him spawning in any of the static spawn locations. We just kept those locations clear, in addition to the ones on the far side of the bridge, and he eventually spawned. We have never seem him spawn on the far side of the bridge, though, but that could well be just because we've had so few spawns in total.

Belt Twice
# Apr 02 2007 at 7:17 AM Rating: Decent
Dropped the Belt twice for me last night, I /ooc'd the third spawn. Zolina is on point ~ I got him to spawn three times on the same spot within 90 mins. There is a static spawn behind a hut a little S-SW of the Point on the beach - kinda SW. I cleared that spot 1st, then all the huts towards the large underwater building to the East plus the two quards at the door to that building. That little Point and its' beach is a very good kitin spot~they will follow you out of the water and neither named for this quest summons. GL

Not always rare
# Mar 17 2007 at 10:41 AM Rating: Decent
There seems to be a trick or method to spawning him, I got three of him to pop in 3 hours. Clear out all the little single-mob huts underwater and the three guards at the entrance to the bridge on the beach. Keep those spawns cleared. I think if there's no mob up in those places at a certain time of day, the named spawns there.
