Whatever you do, DON'T eat them.

I was tired of these worthless buds accumulating in my inventory in Yuhtunga, so I ate a couple. Then I did the math and realized that I had lowered my VIT by 4.

When you're already wearing a Monster Signa, that brought me down to -9 VIT overall, which is a scary stat to look at, lemme tell you. <_<

I should've listened to my mom when she told me not to stick strange things in my mouth.

How are 2-Leaf Mandragora Buds accumulating in your inventory? They are Rare/Ex... Unless of course you mean Two-Leaf, Three-Leaf, and Four-Leaf Buds...or you had them at different times, but either way, your statement was a little bit confusing. Please try to be a bit more clear next time for us casual post viewers.^^

Personally, I have always just dropped these, unless I knew I was going near an NPC who would buy it from me. You won't get much gil for it from an NPC but its better than nothing...

Besides, the Wild Onions are AGI+6, VIT-4 (better stats, same general location), so if you really want the AGI boost THAT badly, go with the bad breath.

Harvesting
# Feb 02 2005 at 3:31 AM Rating: Decent
Well, this needs to be confirmed, but ever since I got one of these two-leaf mandragora buds I carry it with me in my inventory, trying to figure out what it's good for.

I'm also harvesting a lot in West Sarutabaruta using a sickle and last time I noticed something strange. To make as much room in my inventory as possible I left the two-leaf bud in my mog house and went harvesting. To my surprise I had a lot more sickles breaking then ever before. I lost a sickle about every three to five harvesting attempts. Needless to say I ran out of sickles before I could fill up my inventory.

To make sure it was not just my imagination, I went to my mog house, got the two-leaf bud, bought a new stack of sickles and went back harvesting (same day, same place). The sickle breaking rate dropped significantly... maybe once every 8 to 10 harvesting attempts. It might be a coincidence, I don't know, but other than having the two-leaf bud in my inventory nothing else changed (same day, same moon, same weather, same place, ...).

I should try to confirm it, repeating the experiment, but I feel a little reluctant in losing yet another stack of sickles. So if any of you have made the same observation... just let us know.

Also, it might be worthwhile to check if it does have the same effect on pickaxe breaking. Haven't checked that out yet, but I know from past experience (before I had the two-leaf bud) that pickaxes tend to break a lot.

hmmmm.
I carry a two leaf and a wild rabbit tail just for kicks, while going for fresh mugwort to get my cooking to 99, the net suggests using 3 stacks of sickles. For those who haven't harvested mugwort (or in my exp) it is rare very very rare. I usually get 7-9 stacks of red grass thread per stack of mugwort(which imo is also rare) which I sell off to get mugwort. Back to the point at hand, When I am went out harvesting I literally went hours before breaking a single sickle (which I think I brought on myself "/l this is weird, I been harvesting for hours and haven't lost a sickle" 45 seconds later "/l I had to say something, sickle broke" and lost a 2nd sickle about 2 minutes later. However farming for 4-6 hours for several days in a row I only lost a total of 8 sickles, and frankly I leave the remaining stacks in my mh so I have more space for items now. I was wearing full Workers Set for entire duration and went over at least a full moon cycle, still harvesting but not for much longer, I find it boring, although the payouts can by nice esp for low level poor players.

You can steal these off of Tiny Mandys right outside the gate to W. Sar... so I imagine they can be stolen off of every Tiny Mandy. Please note: ONLY Tiny Mandys. All other Mandys I have run into you get a Saruta cotton (so imagine my suprise when I run out to harvest, steal from one and only get a stupid 2lf bud:().

Anyways, if you want to craft silence potions from these, real easy, get all the ingredients
have a lvl 5 thf (great to lvl alch and thf at the same time). Then every 5 mins steal one, and just keep killing tiny mandys till they give you 12 exp (which is pretty much at lvl 6-7 I think:)

All mandragoras drop them. The guy states he's doing research to determine where the mandragoras come from. IIRC, you can also find yuhtunga sulfur on mandragoras in sarutabaruta and trade them to him, too.
i know where..

You cannot buy them at the AH, or trade from someone else. They are "Rare Items", and you can only have one at a time (in your inventory, or in your Mog Safe), but you can discard if you want. They drop from most of the Mandragora series, and I usually get them from the Tiny Mandragoras (the only thing they drop) and from Mandragoras.

As for the silencing potions, you are going to have to make them in the field as you get each Bud...or run back to town, synth, and then run back out to get another Bud.

I see you posted you can only have one of these items at a time. Well is it true then, that you can send yourself ra/ex items using the npc's that stand by the AH's and go harvest another one as long as you don't take it out of your dilivery box? (Ummm) I realise you can't trade ra/ex items and most likly can't mail them ether, but is there other items that you can only have one of but can still be traded, cause i guess that would be the more appropriate question to ask.
RE: Rare drop
# Apr 05 2006 at 10:07 AM Rating: Decent
Yes it just depends on what the items properties are:
Just Rare:can only have one, but you can sell
Just EX:Have as many as you want, but cant sell
Rare/EX:Can only have one, cant sell.
hope this helps

I know, it's so weird because I swear that when I first started playing (before the last major update) you could get a lot of them and they did stack in your inv. Tiny Mandragoras were one of the only things I could kill and I got rid of the 2-leaf buds like crazy thinking they were plentiful...which totally sucks because now they are so hard to come by and you can only have one at a time in your inventory. There are at least 3 quests that I can think of offhand that need them in Windurst....the one not listed here is called Mandragora Mad and you can look it up by that name - pretty sure it's Yoran-Oran that gives it and he's in Windurst Walls.

They drop off of any mandragora-looking mob...but not often.
RE: Rare drop
# Dec 23 2003 at 12:55 PM Rating: Good
You can't trade the 2 leaf buds in the Mandragora Mad quest, he tells you that they are common in sarutabaruta and that he wants rare stuff from other regions (or something like that, it's probably been 4 weeks or so since I first tried it)
Where?
# Nov 19 2003 at 3:59 PM Rating: Default
So where can you find them?
RE: Where?
# Nov 20 2003 at 1:01 AM Rating: Default
You must fight the tiny mandragora...they are normally just outside the gates..but, I had defeated so many and only got 1 Two-Leaf Mandragora Bud so far...
No drop
# Nov 17 2003 at 9:43 PM Rating: Default
These are no-drop, so you can't find them at the AH.
