I had 3 monks come with me and they 2 houred. It was dead shortly. Just be careful about weapons around the area. If you kill all of them and then pop NM ASAP and quickly kill, you should be able to get sneak up soon enough before they respawn.

This NM is SOOOO easy. Went today with 2 nin friends and a thf. I'm whm. 1 nin kept the hate the entire time and the pot fell very quickly. No special prep was required. Too bad Black Halo does less dmg than Hexa. =/

this notorious monster hits very hard but attacks rather slow. The only exception to this is his occasional double attack. me and my friend just killed him with a setup of rdm/nin(Mallicard) and whm/nin (me). It was a rather long fight but the only hard part was after a few thundaga III got through after silence had worn off. Other than that it was a pretty straight forward fight just alternating utsusemi tanking. goodluck on your efforts to take him down.

Aargon from the siren server!

btw Ignore my demule screen name some other dumb person took my ffxi screen name ^^

Wow, so shout out to Kryiac on seraph server. We just duod this (75mnk/37nin, 75whm/37smn<-me) took us two tries to do it, which was not half bad. First run i had not full mp, and he had no 2hr, but we tried anyways. Pulled Eld. to the empty dead end hallway to the south of the ???. Boosted chiblast for ~300 to start, then just normal asurian and utsu for him, and cureV, regenIII, haste for me. At about 40% i ran out of mp and had to rest to get enough for one CureV at a time. At about 14%, Eld used a tp move that ripped through all shadows, and proceded to waste Kryiac.

Tried again with 2hr, ripped Eld. without breaking a sweat.

Basically just keep up on hasting your tank and watch out for poisonII, bioII, etc. and you should have no problem, though i would recommend a rdm or bard to take off the nasty Blaze Spikes Eld. puts up.

Does a blm have to be 75 in order to get the quest to get the "Black Halo" ws or 71+ like the other ws?

You have to have a club skill of 230 to obtain this quest. BLM doesn't reach club skill until level 75 (same as SMN). So, level 75 is when you can start the quest as a BLM.

Defeated this NM with the following party set-up:

75RDM/37NIN (Me. Tank.)
71WAR/NIN
75WHM/SMN
64RDM/BLM

I had a mixed bag of feelings before going into this fight, I strongly believed that we would actually be victorious here, since WHM + RDM support combos with an RDM/NIN tank is usually highly effective. This is due to the fact the WHM and RDM can Haste + Refresh the RDM/NIN to greatly increase their MP conservation, considering Haste and Refresh tends to be the most of a hit. Despite this being after the July 24th patch, I did not have my tier II enfeebles yet, so the fight could have been easier. My main concern in this fight was the repops of VT weapons.

Anywho, we cleared the VT/T weapons in the area, but left the doll type mobs alone, since they tended to be far away enough to avoid aggro (you want to kill as little as possible so you don't get nipped in the butt with pops later on, especially VT to 75 pops, with a weak DD combination).

So we popped the NM, and WAR pulled the NM back with a boomerang to avoid any magic pulling, I equipped a Wind Staff + Tabard in order to immediately land Silence on it, luckily I got it to stick. However, landing other enfeebles proved difficult, especially later on, since my tabard was swapped with an Assault Jerkin, and my staves with my swords. Shortly into the fight, the other RDM pulls hate with cures/enfeebles, and due to his level is eventually killed. The WHM raises him and we keep rolling as usual. TP attacks were actually fairly rare from the mob, considering we had a g-axe war hitting it, and a Subtle Blow RDM/NIN. It double attacks fairly often, but our Utsusemi can usually just keep up with it. Stoneskin can absorb 1 attack, and greatly reduce the second hit generally. Considering I had an RDM and WHM to keep me going, I had stayed alive quite easily. The mob is fairly difficult to enfeeble, but a 75RDM/37BLM in good mage gear would probably not have too much trouble. My RDM support was level 64. :x

Eventually I just gave up silencing the mob, the spells I witnessed were not too bad. The worst spells I saw were tier IV single target spells, which are fairly slow, and gives time to recast Utsusemi without interuption. Towards 15% health, we just wanted the thing dead. I chainspelled Utsusemi to keep myself alive, and the WAR used Mighty Strikes Steel Cyclone for 1100+ damage, which allowed the fight to end shortly after. I attempted using Savage Blade but it was pretty weak, Spirit's Within is very relyable on this monster. I was using Sushi for Accuracy, and hitting the pot for 20-30 damage in full attack gear. Going melee crazy with an RDM/NIN tank on this mob is not smart, unless you have a good THF.

Overall this fight was not incredibly difficult, RDM/NIN is one of the best tanks you can get if you have mage support. I felt confident right away going into this fight with an RDM + WHM watching my back here. The fight lasted roughly 10-15 minutes, which isn't bad for our very light DD setup. We were fortunate that repops began to occur right after it died.

Congratulations to Allowei for earning Black Halo, and good luck to anyone out to get this WS!

Just annihilated this thing with three people. There was:
Me - 75 whm/blm
Coyote - 75 mnk/nin
Dylann - 75 thf/nin

Totaly owned. It only lived long enough for 2 skillchains, and then...BLACK HALO TIME! It never even got off a flare.

Thanks again, you two!

I just killed him.. Pull him into the hallway just to the side of him after you clear the few weapons.

Our party was:
71, 72, and 73 whm
71 blm (stunned mostly)
71 + 75 pld + another 70's pld/nin
73 thf
70 rdm

The tanking pld at worst got to 400 hp after a flare, other than that I (whm) was meleeing and hexastriking the whole time to give an idea of how we handled it.

he's weak to blunt.. so staff, club or h2h if you can get them. I was actually doing fair damage to him (accy gear/food needed to hit him as whm though)

Hey it's me. Anyways, this is used for Black Halo and Retribution WS quests. Perhaps more I'm not sure. He's easy prey, balanced pt of 70 can take him down.
