What am I supposed to do in Myst Online: Uru Live?

This is a hard question with the very simple answer of whatever you want. Myst Online is comprised of a lot of different elements and you can spend as much (or as little) time doing as many (or as little) of them as you want. If you just want to play through the classic Myst-style puzzles, you're welcome to do so. If you wish to explore all the amazing environments and debate the hidden messages in all the D'ni culture, you're free to do so. If you want to actively follow the game's live story, it's there for you. If you want to ignore all of those items and just socialize with your friends and meet new people, go for it. It's all up to you.

What is the live story?

Myst Online is unlike other games in that it's not all preprogrammed. In most games, any player who goes to any one place at any one time will all have the same gaming experience (receive the same quest, meet the same character, fight the same boss, etc.). There are no static characters in Myst Online. All of the game's key characters are played by virtual actors who will respond to anything you say or do. You can even ask the score of last night's playoff game if you want. More importantly, the game storyline as a whole is completely fluid and will grow and evolve based on the choices and actions taken by you and other players. For example, if a member of the D'ni Restoration Council (DRC) reveals a secret piece of information to you, you can keep it to yourself, share it with your friends, or release it to the whole game community. The choices you make will cause results and those will effect the game storyline.

Who are the D'ni Restoration Council (DRC)?

The DRC is the group that was formed to oversee the restoration of the cavern. They are the governing body for lack of a better term.

What is In-Cavern (IC) and/or Out of Cavern (OOC)

One of the key elements of the Myst Online storyline is that the game takes place in the real world and that the cavern that you're about to explore really exists. To further enhance their game experience, some people like to adapt an In Cavern mindset (IC) and pretend like everything is real. Others have no qualms discussing that they are playing a game and that's often referred as an Out of Cavern mindset (OOC).
