This SOB hits extremly hard. Had a 65 WAR from my LS tank it. In 10 Secs it dealt over 600 Dmg to him. The party setup is:

58 PLD (me)
65 WAR
59 MNK
65 RDM

Everyone did a 300 TP WS and dropped it in about 7 secs. It was a good laugh but a friggin hard hitter. Follow the path of {Death} and {Self-Destruct}ion.

RE: hmm
# Nov 19 2005 at 7:54 PM Rating: Decent
no. i spawned him and he dealt me a 200+ damage critical, even with earth staff, had a 60 thf, and a 60 rdm come to help, and added a 75 rdm who happened to be running by, mid fight. probably would have been ok, the thf was good at the bolt style fighting.
easy

Fishing Question
# Jun 29 2005 at 11:02 PM Rating: Decent
does the person doing the quest(me) have to actaully fish the mob? or can somebody else do it?
RE: Fishing Question
# Dec 13 2005 at 9:14 AM Rating: Default

This is not true. I have a LS friend fish this for me since he have high fishing skill and manage to get it in 1st try. It doesn't need to be fish by the quester.

This thing is absurdly easy. I just did it a moment ago to help a Pld in my Linkshell:

51 Pld
70 Blm
63 War (me)
60 Drg

Our plan was to perform Double Thrust -> Rampage for Distortion so our Blm could burst and kill it. Once the Pld caught the fish (on just his second cast) I Provoked it and hit all of my offensive JAs while the Drg started things off:

449 Double Thrust + 154 Frost Breath -> 1381 Rampage -> 828 Distorton -> Dead fish

The poor NM went from 95% HP to 0% in about 5 seconds flat. The fish hit me pretty hard with Berserk up, but it died so fast that it didn't really matter. In fact, it was so easy I probably could have soloed the thing in under a minute if I started the fight with a Weaponskill.

Here's a pic of our Skillchain

Sidewinder + Barrage = Dead NM
# Feb 14 2005 at 3:27 PM Rating: Decent
Expected the mob to be harder than it was. Used helpful posts (see above) to find mob then fished approximately 5 to 6 times (0 fishing skill). I recommend having Prism Powder to avoid the Yagudo aggros along the way and around the pond (though you can't fish while invisible). Rng 73 used Slug shot and barrage--killed it in two shots. Fight lasted 8 seconds. I recommend bringing a high lvl ranger friend (if you want to see a NM get owned). Good luck.
ME--52 PLD (didn't get a single hit).

Silly fish took me at least 30 minutes to fish up .. and I did nothing but fish, my party killed all the pops while I was fishing. When I finally got a bite everyone cheered and b4 we knew what happened the NM was dead. Easiest mob for us. Not to much harder than the surrounding Yags really.

my party consisted of

67 RNG
67 SAM
50 PLD
50 WHM
50 DRK
50 BLM

and for jokes the SAM decided to 2 hour cuz he was about to log ............. I think his 2 hour alone practically killed 80% of its life lol.
The fish never got to use its TP attack so I do not know what the damage is like on it.

Anyways make sure you fish the LOWER pond in Castle Oztroja. Both ponds are at H-9 but one is up stairs and one is down stairs from the entrance. You need to go to the lower one near the Rank 5 Magicite door. DO NOT go the the pond upstairs past the 4 switch door. That pond has leeches for WAR AF & Yag Abbots for WHM AF. Its also got 5 coffer chest spawns and much harder mobs.
overestimated this crap
# Feb 03 2005 at 6:41 AM Rating: Decent
pssshh, this thing was way to easy we beat it with 4 PLd's and 1 war XD, (killed it 3 times)
PLd54 PLD 64 PLd 52 PLd 51 WAR60

way to easy, its kinda hard getting there though had a train of yag's on us and the whole pt got thier hp down to the red, so watch out for that >.<.

How to get to the pond
# Jan 04 2005 at 12:02 PM Rating: Excellent
::Getting to the Pond::
From what I have read the instructions on how to get there are still a bit bad if you don't go to Castle Oztroja offten as I hardly go there as does my PLD friend that just completed this quest.

This is a map of Castle Oztroja you can use as you read this.
http://ffxi.killvoid.com/maps/oztroja.htm

you start out on the top-left map, work you way to J-8 this is where the trap door is. Pull the wrong switch and you fall. Once you go into the next area you will be on the left-side 2nd map down.

now from J-8 work yourself to G-7, now you will be on the right-side 3rd map down.

From I-8 head to I-7 your just heading north, now you will be on the map in the center at the bottom. This is the map page where the pond is.

From G-5/6 head over to H-8/9 (center room), the yags here were Easy Prey to my lv55 RDM, and it took like 4-5 tries for the PLD to fish the NM (Fishing Lv.4, fishing skill has no effect from what I read).

::Battle::
Our party was a lv55 RDM / lv52 PLD / lv71 MNK
This battle was over so quick. The MNK built up his TP on the yags in the area. Once Odontotyrannus spawned I casted paralyze, slow, blind, and haste. The MNK did Asuran Fists and it was half dead (1200 dmg). Odontotyrannus then did screwdriver and took out half the MNK's HP. I casted Cure IV and Cure III. After another 20 seconds of being beat down by a MNK and PLD it was dead. The MNK had just about as much def as the PLD :p

Good Luck!
Hope this helps someone or at least clears an issue or two. :P
guide
# Nov 17 2004 at 1:09 PM Rating: Decent
The guide was pretty vague on the location of where he was located, thank god I had a person helping me who knew where he/she was going. ^^;
This pugil has to be below Too Weak to a Lv. 60, out PT consisted of
WHM/BLM Lv. 60
SMN/WHM Lv. 60
NIN/WAR Lv. 55
WHM/BLM Lv. 50
PLD/WAR(me) Lv 52

and we totally wasted this thing, the SMN said he/she was gonna 2hr it, but by the time the SMN did it it was nearly dead so was sorta a waste, oh well. I'm really loving these boots!

I keep getting confused as to where the lake is, ive read multiple posts on a few forums for this NM fish location but either im being dim (more than likely >.<) or some of them seem to contradict each other...

Before I drag my ls down here I would just like confirmation that the location is H-9 on the same map as the torch-door for magicite (after running down the long stairs).

With a fishing skill of 0 it may take me a while to catch this NM and I dont want to upset ppl by being at the wrong pond for an hour.

Thanks in advance :)
fishing skill?

Is it tough to fish up this NM if your fishing skill is 0? :P

Just did this last night with PLD/WAR, NIN/WAR, DRG/THF, SMN/WHM, and WHM/BLM(me). Everyone's level was 52.

Once we got to the room we cleared it completely of yagudo and the oozes in the water. This brought all the melee TP to 250-300% for the start of the match. We thought we were in the wrong spot when the PLD couldn't fish up the NM but after several tries he got it. Opened the fight with a SC that immediately gave aggro to the DRG after he used sneak attack + Penta Thrust. PLD soon regained the hate and things started going smoothly. The fish does hit hard but it was nothing that couldn't be dealt with. When the NM got to around 1/4 of its life left a couple of yagudo respawned. Our SMN ended up taking a few hits and I had one that kept casting ninjitsu on me (paralyze/poison) which kept me busy healing and removing my negative status effects. Luckily the yagudo there were all EP to us so they were more of an annoyance than a huge problem. We managed to finish the NM and then refocused our attention to destroy all the yagudo immediately afterwards.

It was a fun fight. Probably would have went much faster if our BLM/WHM had been there (nuking would've made it faster and sleepga for the links would have been nice). Managed to get my yagudo holy water for WHM AF2 afterwards too^^.

This things is a nightmare for rangers, I went with some LS buddies for the Paladin AF2 before going for my AF. This thing has super high evasion. I only hit it 3 times for like 230 dmg even with sharpshot and agility boosts. Dragoons and blm, drk are a must in this :)

Actually, he said "Ringer" not "Ranger" (though I suppose ou could use a ranger as a ringer). He means significantly higher-level help. Think Mr. Burns' softball team in that "Homer at the Bat" episode of Simpsons.
This is a NM
# Feb 18 2004 at 1:18 PM Rating: Good
This mob is a Pugil-type that is fished up in the Yagudo Parasite pond in upper oztroja. You fish him up during the Paladin AF2 (boots) quest with giant shell bug bait. He is very deadly unless you have a high level ringer to help. We had a level 75DRK/37SAM double Guillotine him and killed it in about 10 seconds. It has about 2100 HP and a high defense.

2100 HP is tiny. That's less than Helm Beetles in Crawlers' Nest. I can't see you NEEDING a high level. Heck, get a DRK and a THF and a BLM, go Vorpal Scythe ↨¨ Viper bite, and magic burst with Freeze (You need to start casting freeze before you've even used Vorpal Scythe) that itself will do about 2000 damage.
