I was able to solo this NM as level 53 PUP/DNC with ease and a Bigclaw aggro too. FFXIAtlas recommends level 62+ I think my HP hit yellow once at end of fight, other than that was pretty much full the whole time.
Got drop (trousers) and some other useless stuff.

Very easy if you're level 75. Kill the placeholders around Fyuu until he pops. Not too many people camp him so you have a bit of time to do this. After he pops leave the spawn area and kill off any sahagin that might link. Once the path back up to the pond is clearish claim Fyuu and drag him up to the pond.
Now the RMT fishbots only ever fish on the one side underneath the bridge above. Drag Fyuu over to them and force DC yourself. Log back in to some dead RMT's. Very fun.

I just killed him as 52 Nin/whm. I popped my NPC (41healer mithra). I pulled him back no links. Easy east fight and I got the trousers, cobalt jelly fish, 2400 Gil, 32 xp... so that puts him at what 50 ? He got me a couple times with requiem but it helped against his horde lullaby. All I had was shihei, casted Ni twice Ichi once.
Very, very, very easy fight, I imagine would be a pain with links since he buffs others but meh, I kicked the crap out of him. Didn't 2hr either.

i was on alla looking up gear for my bst (lvl 46) and came across these, figured i was bored, wth might as well go get them. so i gear up my DRG75/THF37 and head to SSG. i killed all the PHs, 12 minutes later, NM pops i kill in a penta thrust and a half, get pants 1/1. so about 15 minutes total these took. wish my luck was that good on stuff i needed for my dragoon.
1/1 on the drop. I stumbled upon him when I was trying to get the utsu scroll with my gf and he aggroed us before I could ask ls about it and everything else in the area linked.
I thought we were so dead (both around 55 at the time I think. the links were all EP) but we managed to kill it. the links mysteriously ran away in the middle of the fight and we never saw them again.

So I'm running through to camp him and he's up. So I decide to take a picture with him (as a 75 SMN). He had the balls to aggro me, Carby jumped and smacked him in the jaw and everything links on carby. Not fun when he soul voiced and began boosting the army hitting carby. Killed him, no drop.

Dropped a Bastore Sardine for me last night and 5k gil. 0/1. This was with TH2 =/

a true thf will know that TH2 doesn't work on NMs, only on rergular mobs, if you get 1/1 its pure luck

I highly doubt it was a Greatclaw that you used against him, seeing as how those are still Tough to me at 70. Unless you 2 houred it of course.

was in SSG for golden eyes and while waiting for ls member to do key quest, i picked this guy up on scanner(didnt know what it dropped), ran to him with a charmed greatclaw, owned him and got drop. 1/1

Am I the only one who cannot seem to get the drop? Everyone seems to have a good drop-rate from this guy but I'm now 0/10 with many of those times being with TH. He is easily soloable by me but he must be at least around level 65 or so as he aggros me at 75.

This Notorious Monster can also drop Pamtam Kelp, as Cyfirus said. I've also gotten a Quus from it.
I'm 0/3 on the Trousers now, and it's taken about two hours and twenty minutes to spawn each time.
It's dropped me exactly 2400 G each time, and I've killed it as a BLM75/RDM37.

im 2/2 w/o th me and my friend was in ssg 4 eyes and was waiting so felt like killing all NM or w/e in the area it should be a very ez drop lol gotten it both times. the nm should be around lvl 50-55 but im not possitive

Well, I'm very much an MP ***** and I never knew about the existence of these pants until a friend of mine wanted these for himself and asked me to help him camp it. It wasn't very hard and I noted that the respawn time was around 3~ hrs. I came back to camp this thing for myself, which wasn't very hard as a level 68 PLD. Thanks to the very informative people here, I knew that the respawn time was 12 mins so I took out my cell phone and began timing the respawns while I did other stuff and came back every 12 mins to kill the placeholders. It was usually 12 mins on the dot unless I was late on starting the watch. So anyway, at one point I glance at the watch and see that it's nearly time so I search around for the placeholders, except they weren't there and I knew this time I wasn't late at starting the watch. So I'm waiting for them to pop, they're about five minutes late and finally one of them pops and I kill it. The second one pops and it's the NM. I kill it and get the pants and I do my little victory dance. So, I guess if respawns are a little late that quite possibly means that the NM will pop.
Riparians repop every 14 minutes. (at least they do now, maybe SE changed it from 12 to 14 minutes some times...)
Me (lvl 63 rng) and a friend (lvl 73 blm) went 2/3 for trousers today. Spawn time was approximately 3 hours between spawns. Clearing the room was no real problem but be careful of links and erratic spawn rates. (ie: no pop for 5 minutes and then 4 at once)...<3 my new pants^^

First off, he is not that high in level. We took him out as 44RDM/BLM (me), 44THF/WAR, 55RDM/BLM (doing the tanking). ^^

The drop isn't that bad although we had to kill him twice for him to actually drop it. Bring a THF with at least TH1 to make your stay shorter.

Just for fun while camping Qull the Shellbuster, I would run over the ledge and kill the Fyuu placeholders betweeen killing the Qull placeholders. Took him about 40 mins to pop from when I arrived. Very easy fight, it used Soul Voice after I Guillotine'd(causes Silence) em... :/ sry bout yer luck dood! Got Frog Trousers and about 5k gil.
Tried killing it a second time for a friend, popped in like 1.5 hours after I arrived. Pants didnt drop this time.

Hunting merman parts for ring i see a whm getting pummled by like 6 sahagins along with this thing. I tried to help and pull some off but she was dead in a minute and i got all aggro it took about 2 stacks of bloody bolts to survive the onslaught, after all were dead i checked inv and got frog trousers, which to me sucks cause my mithra rse gives more mp >< i only wish it wasnt rare/excl cause i really wanted to give them to that whm

Solo'd this guy 10min ago as 62mnk. 100fist made quick work of him, got 12xp, 2,400g, pamtam kelp and frog trousers. sweet pants
