Flattened this little guy as 35 SAM/WAR. I wasn't sure how strong he'd be (NM lvls are SO not an exact science), so I Meditated and was prepared to two-hour but held off after my initial Tachi: Kagero knocked him down to about 1/3 of his life I fired up Seigan & Third Eye, and he never laid a finge...er... foot?... on me. He forked over 37 xp when the battle was over, so I guess I caught him on the higher side of his level range. Anyway, as others have stated: incredibly easy NM, just be careful to pull him away from the wall o' Evil Weapons.

very easily solo'd as 35 RDM/BLM. Protect II, Stoneskin (had to recast halfway through), Phalanx, enthunder and debuffs. I used Drain to recover the 50 some hp he damaged me when stoneskin dropped, and ended the fight with full health and about 1/2 mp.

ok...i solo'd this one with my 35blm. aero ii, water ii, stone ii, thunder...DEAD. simple as hell. i'd rented a chocobo from lower jeuno & rode out to the area, which is damn close to the white spine in the ground and a LOT of evil weapons that checked "tough" to me [so definitely chocobo there and warp out]. i'd almost given up and was riding back to jeuno, when i saw the airship pass overhead. i rode back out....and there it was. just waiting to be slaughtered. no one seems to camp for this NM. got the egg drop on the first try. came back a couple hours later with my bf so he could get the egg, and it once again spawned when we saw an airship pass overhead. i cannot stress how easy this guy was. lol.
HOWEVER...my level 3 basty fame is apparently not sufficient enough for me to recieve the quest. dammit, i really want that hanky. any info or pointers on how to get the quest?

Just soloed this NM as a 29BLM/14WHM. Not a tough battle but he left me with 120 Hp and 57 MP and a nice gift in the form of poison, which was easy enough to fix.
Binded to start then fired off one Thunder after another, while I was casting the 3rd thunder he came at me. Used Drain and Cure II to keep my going. Only DoT I used was Bio.
Time to get my neckerchief.

Rather than spend 80k on the neckerchief, I decided to quest it. After messing around on the bone wall because it's fun to do (RDM54/BLM26... yeah yeah gimped but it was to level my BLM), I get to the spawn area and out of the clouds pops the airship! :O!!! Lucky timing. :D Piece of cake, no buffs/debuffs even.

2/3 on this so-called NM
NOTE: Food was Meat Jerky on all tries
First time I fought Silky I was a 33THF/16WAR. Almost had him but the poison killed me when he wasa breath away from getting his Angel's Wings. (Should've prepped for poison but forgot)
2nd time- Opened with a Sneak Attack as a 34THF/17WAR. Since he aggro's I didnt get the Crit but still hit for close to 100damage. Used Acid Bolts to lower his defense. Got the drop and lived with 1HP after his final poison wore and recieved 69exp after I used my Reraise earring at 80HP.
3rd time-Got bored waiting on an invite and a friend to log on so I attempted again. Same as the second time but I used Venom bolts this time. Got the drop and lived with 108HP plus 61exp.
Gear-
When you engage be sure to pull back to the canyon wall. Evil Weapons tend to pop along the bone wall. After each kill I made I saw at least 2 walking around. The egss are EX and stackable(possibly hold 99 like Beastman Seals). Im going to attempt to see what the stats are as a food since they are edible (it gave me the option). If you're on Fairy and need a hand with it look me up.

I killed him just for that purpose once, it gives 2 int (don't remember it lasting very long either)

This has to be one of the easiest NMs out there. I killed it with my lvl 28 RDM/14 whm got the drop the third time. Went to Bastok, got the silk neckerchief and sold it for 75k on Cerberus today. I deffinatley recommend this NM to anyone who needs quick gil.
Found it in the SE corner of H-7. When you find the solitary tree, it's just nw of that, still in the H-7 corner.
Couldn't get any easier. Battle went something like this...
Freeze: 757 dmg
Weapon: 26 dmg
ShockSpikes: 6 dmg
I'd say it's health is right around 784-789.
Easy as a 51BLM/WHM.

Yeah lvl 31 drk was pwning him and suddenly i get 121 dmg............ghost aggroed me from behind.

Killed this sucka on the next pop....Sneak Attack, took some dmg, then Sleep -> Sneak Attack (thanks to those that gave me advice to get this to work) got me into red, Sleep.....heal.....sleep Sneak Attack,,,dead Caterpillar.

Yeah, just took this guy out as a BLM32/WHM16 and he was indeed very easy. Left me with a little less than half mp at the end, and was hitting me for around 30ish.
So yeah, don't be afraid to fight this NM for the neckerchief quest, he's a pushover.

just to add to everyones stories, fought him as a 60 pld. didnt hit me once. you can do it!
Nice food effect lol. Better than Birds' Eggs, and it's not rare, just EX. Not bad if you have enough room to carry them.
EDIT: Yes, I am talking about the silkworm egg...

Not even 10 minutes after I got to the spawn point he was there, and I said to myself, "Here goes!"
Casted Dia II on him first to start with, then casted Paralyze. I tried casting Blind but it was resisted so I just left it alone. All this time, I am meleeing, wearing it down with hits of about 30 or so. It was hitting me back for about 20. I think I casted an elemental spell... Thunder, it may have been but I really didn't need it. My HP only dropped into the yellow one time, and I waited a bit so I could Cure III myself. All in all this was an easy fight and I got my drop with no trouble.
A level 30 could solo this thing no sweat.
EDIT: And of course, I took a screenshot. Can't kill a NM without taking one. ^.^

This guy spawns so often (as suggested by the quest and by others, based on airships over Rolanberry), I see it when ever heading to Jeuno usually from dem or sometimes when heading to crawler's nest from jeuno. I don't fight berry grub but I assume he is as hard if not, even easier then a berry grub. as a level 37 WHM with a few buffs. cast paralyze on him and he failed half his attacks, missed 1/4th and couldn't knock me out of casting stoneskin when that went down.
I had about 2/3s HP and MP left after fighting him and if I had waited a minute for the airship to depart (I toke him when I saw airship arriving) I could have probably got another Silkworm egg since I assume it is probably a 100% drop like others have said and I usually don't really have much gil for good food items but the +HP and +MP of this item might help a little bit in crawlers' nest if it doesn't ware off too quickly ^^.

Me and an LS buddy (Naotane [51SAM]) decided to go kill this thing for fun. It drops the Silkworm Egg automatically, which is a 40k Black Silk Neckerchief on Fairy. ^^ Pretty good for being bored to death, only wish the guy in Bastok would let me do it again =P

I just took this guy out. I was on my way to jeuno and thought I'd see if he was around. Im lvl 36whm he was alittle hard but took him down ok. Didnt even need to 2 hour.
Passed him twice on way to the Nest. I Took him out np (obvoisuly) just need to get my butt to bastok and do the quest ><
