We are currently killing these as I speak with a Manaburn pt with a brd and 5blms. Lvls are 57-58. We find that Freeze is the best since we get alot of resist with Burst, so the ice staff works The brd is really needed for this since Antlions are dark based so the bard can sleep it without trouble. Were get a lot of exp though 220 for one without ring.
We fought these as a group of 60-62. Really hard time sleeping them, dark based. They are charmable.
Not to be confused with the 'Pit Antlion' which will (randomly) pop out of the ground and attack you if you do not have sneak on. You can tell WHERE they will pop out of the ground. Those giant running cracks in the ground/cracked ground areas? If you run over those without sneak, you'll get cracked. Discovered that while watching some LS fight Tiamat.
They link, so at least one person with Carbuncle is recommended. They have AoE Blind, I *believe* AoE BIND, Cone-Type Poison, and one very nasty single target attack - Mandibular Bite. They are just a whole lot easier then they look. And amazingly, Don't AGRO!
I got a xp pt today killing those guys.. pt was 60-62, we finished 61-63 (we all gained one level).
With a 63 on board, we hit constant Chain 4 no downtime ever, for between 126 xp to 215 xp.
Now, as far as aggro goes, those Antlions do NOT aggro.. at one point, one came right beside our camp while we were fighting, and it did not link to us. The Antlion wasnt in line of sight then. At other times, 2 others joined in the fun when they got us in line of sight >.< but hey this party was so great we could take 4 at the same time ^.^
I was in a PT 62-63 that was chaining off these. While we were fighting one, another poped and took a while before it started moving and linked with the one we were fighting.
I'd say these mobs do link by sight if aggroing is ruled out by your experience as well.
We went to chain flies and lizards (party was 57-59) for the first time and these were wandering around. We fought one and it took forever to kill (got 250 EXP), but it wasn't particularly dangerous, just took a long time. The thing about these is that they are very gimp in respect to their level. I figure at at lvl 60-62 they'll make a great EXP mob. Like crabs only without the stoneskin and annoying status ailments. They look a lot nastier than they actually are.

Adjust the resolution of menus. The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting. If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.
Spamming AoE blind is a pretty annoying status ailment. Definitely be sure to have at least 2 people with Blindna, or you will go crazy.
They also have conical poison, so either have your tank face it away from the mages, or if you have BRD+PLD, have the mage(s) stand off to the side a bit and they won't get hit.
I exped on these the other day. The party was 60-63. The exp wasn't all that great. I think 62 should be the highest level in the party if you are going to fight these.
Our party had 2 RDMs (I was one of them). The other had a hard time getting Gravity to stick (like every battle he told me that his was resisted). We were doing a Fragmentation SC, which was kind of weird. I bursted with Thunder II, and got 329 damage just about every time. The other RDM bursted with Aero II and was resisted just about every time. Our equipment was comparable, so I think these might be strong against Aero/Wind.
I soloed some of them as lvl73 NIN, they are decent > even matches to me. They didnt agro on sight and they didnt agro by sound, so i believe they are simply not agro =) But those Pit Antlions are hided under the earth, they agro by sound and suddenly come out when you run over them (unsneaked), they are A LOT harder than these guys... so be careful in these area, you cant see them, when you can you got agro^^
Drops: Dark Crystal (with signet) Antlion Jaw (Item seldom drops) Scarlet Stone (Item seldom drops)
TP moves: AOE blind Front facing Poison Single target Bind Single target attack - Mandibular bite (i think its called)
I'm probably forgetting others. -_-
Charmable: Yes
Edit comment: I started the level range at 65, since allakhazam posted the start level there. However, I have not seen a DC or Even matched Tracker Antion yet. I believe the range starts at 70. ^^
