Vana'diel Bestiary: Ashmaker Gotblut  

I was running to Horlais Peak last night and decided to see if I could net myself an extra 40-50k by claiming this undercamped bad boy on my way back. I made my way to his spawn area, killed the the pair of Grunts in the room and then the other two for fun/TP and waited. After five or so minutes, I saw an Orc with a strange name wandering in from the adjacent chamber, so I went to investigate and sure enough it was him. One Tachi: Kagero later and he coughed up his Wand (cheap b'st'rd...), but I was surprised to see him spawn outside of his given range since everything about this NM is fairly predictable.

So just a heads up if you're camping this guy under heavy competition (not bloody likely), be sure to check the very southern part of H-8. Spawn areas aren't an exact science.

As a 35whm/blm (currently), soloing this Notorious Monster is a peice o' cake. Getting a 4k wand, or the not-so-often robe drop for 45k (on my server), is an easy bit of constant cash. Clear the 4 or 5 orc area, pop the NM, wait 55 min (go watch a movie or something xD) come back. Rinse, repeat.

The robe is alot more common than 5%. I'm currently 11/27 robe the other side of that ratio for wand, having never subbed thf.

did i mention he's undercamped by a large amount? >:)

I camped this sucker for 2 hr on Midgardsomr as a L25THF/12WAR, and 1st Kill I am 1/1 with Priest Robe. Bought Hermit Wand at AH for 3k so I'm done with him. For anyone that wants to know he popped at 2:24 am Central Time and it was 2:24 Light Day. Good Luck and Happy Hunting

I did camp him on a quiet night when I needed stuff for my white mage in the teens. I had someone in chat. I did alot of forced pops. I didn't get the Priest's Robe ultimately--just a bunch of hermit's wands. However, it's worth it if you have the time and want a Priest's Robe.

Well, just after the update, no one was in the area (on Bismarck, when i came calling there has always been at least 2 people) so i thought "hell, i'll try and get him to spawn"
Went off looking for a chest for the key i had, came back, found him, and whooped him.
He's one helluva Nuking SOB though!
But all the same, 40War/20Mnk...the outcome was never in doubt XD

spawned at about 1:05am est and only ermit wand... only sells for 10k on asura and robe sells for about 89k ish


i was wrong it sells for 20-30k in jeuno (the wand)

I've just got this guy last night "Unicorn Server" drop me a Hermit's Wand, I was killing Orcs for Fire Crystals when all of a sudden I stop for its unusual name and check this NM "IG", it's my VERY first encounter.

Well, I just thought at my lvl (lvl 23nin/11war) he'll just eat me, but iam wrong. Killed em and drop me a Wand. XD

Some b*tch named anastisa or whatever her name was just got lucky as hell and logged on 2 seconds before Ash popped and got claim and logged off right after that. I was busy mining on the other side of the room. Nobody else was around in the zone for the last hour or so >.< Talk about really bad luck /fume! So if yer reading this ana-whatever --GO TO HELL!

You didn't get the drop. The wand is a gay drop, the real drop is the Priest Robe

just killed him. comboed for 385 and then dropped him with my next round of punches. manafronted but only got bio off.

I decided to finally camp my first NM ^^ and it happend to be Ashmaker Gotblut. Yes, he was undercamped, and I now see why; on Asura at least. I started to camp this NM at about 10:30, then he finally popped at 12:20... wtf. Anyway, I was happy he did pop. After I pwnd him very easily as a 30MNK/13WAR, he dropped the Wand, and I was still pretty happy, after all, this was my first NM camp and I got the drop. I later went to the AH to find that the wands were selling for 5-10k... so yeah... I spent almost two hours for a possible 10k. I dont think I'll be camping him any more.

Of all the times I've been in the Grotto, I have never seen him until last night when I was helping a friend get the treasure key for the Kazaam airship quest. We killed him with 2 level 19 warriors. I wasn't sure how hard he would be so I threw on Mighty Strikes. We finished him off with about half health left. I noticed he cast Fire and some other spells that I can't remember. He dropped the Hermit Wand and not the robe. Not a complete waste for me, because I can use the hermit wand to skill up woodworking to make Eremite's wand.
