is it just me, or does the map on this website completely differ from the one on FFXI?

I was pretty suprised that this guy was this easy. With all the talk about his drop being kinda rare, I thought it would take a few days. However, just this morning I was walking through the Grotto, I spot Ashmaker, I kill him, and he drop Priest's robe. It was only my second time fighting him. And I don't expect to fight him again unless I need a robe to sell.
I was out waiting to help a LS buddy do his Rank 3 dragon here, so I slipped into the Grotto and figured I'd level up my Great Sword skills with my Paladin. (After all, I was lvl 32 at the time, and bored) So I systematically wiped the orcs out in here, raising my GS from 5 to 35. As I was pouding away on an orc neckchopper, this boy decides to hit me from behind. "Oh, wanna tangle?" I thought. lol So I quickly put the GS away and whip out my Centurians (sp?) Sword and Kite Shield and pound away on this fool. (all the while with the neckchopper and two sets of bats nipping at my heels) Took less than a minute to dust him, then turned and finished everyone else off behind me.
I get done and remembered to look in my inventory. Imagine my delight to find the Priest's robe there! So, I walked back out, met my LS and destroyed the dragon for the 5th time, and popped this into the Sandi AH. Next day, 180k in my delevery box. Feels like I won the lottery! Maybe I'll go back eventually for the wand to complete the collection...

Maybe I'll go back eventually for the wand to complete the collection...

This is a really easy NM to camp. But so far i'm 0/9 on the robe. Wand is a 100% drop if you don't get the robe. but it's only worth 20k :S
WOW i'm having horible luck camping this thing. but i wont stop till i get at least one drop. Its starting to tick me off because last night my friend camped him and he went 2/3 on the robe!!!

This NM is sooo Easy! i am 4/12 on robe and 8/12 on wand! Wand = 20k, robe = 200k on my server

I have to disagree with last post.with mining as well and only getting hermit wands I can make 300k in a couple of hours.
much better for camping for hours for a nm when you either don't get drop or you don't get the claim.
there are 4 placeholders for this nm and when it does pop which can be on the hour or on the 2 hour it can appear anywhere in the pop area. usually top or bottom.

Ashy is the worst NM ive ever camped only a nub would camp this NM or be uber stupied

Well you obviously did not notice the lvl of this NM a noob actually can camp this and it's drop is now running over 300k on some servers (100k on remora). It is not often camped and you can mine at the same time. This is a great NM to camp. So far i'm 1/2 on robe.
P.S. Those Whom Spam "noob" are missing the point of life and therefore are the RL Noobs.

First time i camped him tonight took 3 stacks of pickaxes with me to be sure :).
1hour 20 minutes later he pops ..... hermit wand drops
in the meantime i have got a 2 gold ores from mining points in room (mining in room is good idea keeps miners passing through.
hermit wand - 70k on fairy
gold ore - 80k ""
stack wings - 20k ""
daren't even look at robe will cry if it never drops for me lol.

camped him yesterday for 4 hours. it seems he pops anywhere between X:40 and X:50 every hour.
also out of 31 times camping it im 0/31 on robe but 31/31 on wand

im a 41 blm and camped this guy 8 times, robe = 0/8 wand = 8/8, i need the robe so i can lvl whm and it costs anywhere from 100k-250k on Asura, no way am i spending all my money when i can camp. oh and the wands sell for 20k really sloooooowly so there not exactly worth my time >_>;
this NM sux i camped him millions of times and oniy got the robe two times its drop rate is horid but this is a good noob NM but only noob camp him
i was mining one day and ran into this bad boy since i was lvl 63 i thought i kill him, after i get him to half 1/2 he uses manafont and i think that its pretty pathetic so i just use fast blade and finish him off only a hermit wand dropped though
If you add a "n" to his last name you can see what he makes ash from. O.o

i always though that Ashy dropped the wand, so i was a little pissed when i saw the cloak... did a quick LS check that its 110k on Caitsith... i ain't complaining. and ashy is a wimp... i have to get a train going just to make it interesting with him

I've killed him 20+ times and i've noticed his spawn time is from 1 to 1 1/2 hours... not 1 hour on the dot.

When i mine in Yughott i kill the placeholders as i go by, and Yes if you kill the placeholders he will pop every hour give or take 10 mins. I'm 0/5 on him but got a Hermit's Wand everytime so I believe that he will always drop this. I got it selling 20k on my server ^^
My experience with Ashmaker:
A buddy and I decided we wanted to camp this guy. We go to the grotto and to the place where he spawns. We start killing orcs and after about 20 minutes the NM pops. We kill it and get a Hermit's wand. We think oh well, at least he pops every hour as a lot of people say. WRONG! We kill this guy at 7:45 PM and the ****** doesn't pop until 10:06 PM. He popped again and we kill him and alas no Priest's robe. We gave up after that. At least we got 2 Hermit's wands. I guess it wasn't a total loss. =-)

I'm 2/2 on this nm. Pretty easy and Priest's Robe sells for 100k on Siren. I hunt the this nm as a 35lvl Drg/Whm. I run to the Orcish Barricader(sp?) and this nm.
One trend i noticed with 90% of the posts is he is sooo undercamped. and yet every one doesnt provide a reason
What is his Counter part?

well i went in the other night drk44/22war i was there less than 5 min took it out in 3 strikes only camped it 4 times and finaly git my robe b
Oops. Well, I took him at around 11:00 on Lightsday and got the Robe first try. He spawns on the hour and can be according to what happened around 10 min off on spawntime. I can actually afford dispel or phalanax now.
Well, I was busy mining away in the grotto when I noticed two high level guys with /anon on, killing all the orcs in the area that Ashy spawns. Well, I didn't care much since I was busy mining and not camping.
Now, to save on room, I didn't equip my sword and was a 48 Pld/ 18 Blm at the time, so I wasn't really gonna be killing any placeholders any time soon. So I passed them and went on with my business.
About half an hour later, I'm coming down the grotto when I see those two guys fighting about 8 orcs, they're not having any problems, just had their plates full. And just as I walk through the little archway to find more mining points, Ashy-boy spawns right behind the /anon Rdm. I grin to myself, select Ashy, and hit him with a single fist. The fight took a long time, since Paladin's don't have Hand-to-Hand skills and I ran out of MP for my black magic, but I killed him...and got the drop lol. Needless to say, those guys were pretty pissed!
And to anyone who has any doubts about the spawn time, take it from a veteran of mining the grotto: It spawns at the TOP of every REAL DAY hour. So if it's 7:00 p.m. or 2:00 a.m. or anything like that, I suggest you kill those placeholders. He'll spawn like a true boy-scout. ^_^
