Went down 70 PUP/RDM just to fool around a bit and maybe find something worth soloing while i LFP. I get a key off a Milestone and remimbered seeing a chest on the way (golden). I go to trade and bam. No real danger. Death Trap stun/poison on Sprocket i got the 10 tick poison.
by a move called DEATH TRAP these can poison, first time i had a good 5-7 sec. stun, the second time i had a poison that did 10 damage a tick, and i lost 1400 hp (75 monk, and the poison may have kept going, but i was able to chakra it beforehand)
In my experience, real chests have a shine to them and a kind of metal gilding, whereas Mimics are straight wooden chests. This has only proved true for the Mimics I have bumped in to, can anyone disprove this?
ok so i ran in there 67RDM/NIN, find the thing, use stoneskin, utsusemi, haste, enfire, ice spikes, pro4, aquaveil, phalanx, stack Bio Poison Slow and blind, and its dead. not hard, mostly DoT's kill it. converting is a bad idea.
i'm 0/7 on the cyan chip. repops every... idk i havent been counting time, but its a good while.
Went to explore last night with my friend who's a 61 BRD / WHM. (I'm 61 SAM / RNG) we're both capped out in our combat/magic skills.
Started just trying to get a key off of the mobs at the entrance. A cutter dropped the key, and we figured we're set...no blue or green bracelet yet. We wander around for a bit with our limitations, and a door opens showing a treasure chest. Pop it open and WHAMMO!!! This thing is now up in our face. It ate seven sidewinders from a war bow +1 and demon arrows(600+ damage each), my barrage, my left arm, a telephone book and my friends AF hat. I think it might have gotten his eye too, and maybe a toe...
Bottom line is that we killed it but he was in orange and I was in red. That poison and it's AOE stun/blind attack is more of an annoyance than a damage dealer. Use mid grade caution when fighting these if you're just exploring like we did. Just cover your butt in case the worse happens and bring a warp scroll with you.
These guys are difficult to solo as a Blm75 (and probably Whm). They hit for about 50-60 hp of damage, but it's the frequency that is the issue for mages. Even with Stoneskin and Blink.. they were gone in about 10 seconds. After that, they kept interrupting my spells. Their poison wasn't helpful either.
I was able to dual these with ease with Rdm75.. since we were able to trade off hate and be able to recast Stoneskin. We also watched a Smn75 "solo" one with Fenrir.
Before you get close to the mob, use item, and have circle on the chest.
As soon as you get in range, hit enter.
I dont know if it was a fluke, but it also worked for a friend of mine. It *had* to be a mimic, b/c only not mimic if 2 chests in a room, or in a weird spawn location.
I tried this, and it didn't work. :( The Treasure Chest didn't aggro when I walked up to it, because of the Sneak, but when I tried to pick it it turned into a VT Treasure Chest and pwned me hard. x.x
I can confirm that these do drop Cyan Chips. If you can get some help to hunt them in the uncapped Pso'Xja near Ranguemont, they're probably the best to hunt, since they're almost everywhere. Hard as hell to fight, though - a level 70 THF/NIN I know almost bit it thanks to poison after soloing one.
I walked up to this thinking it was a real chest, BAM +I take 390-something damage+. It uses the same attacks as a Mimic, which means 10hp a tick AoE poison! Needless to say, the poison got me, i could of won if not for the poison!!!!!!!!!
There are several ways to kill fishbots. Sleep - If they are low level, all you have to do is to sleep a goblin or giant next to them, then temp log/escape/warp. Sleeping mobs still get sight, sound and blood agro.
Bind - Bound mobs will attack the closest target in front of them, if their main target moves out of range. Even if their new target moves away, they will still follow it, unless another target is within reach. When Bind fades, the mob will go after the original target again. If that person has zoned or warped during Bind, it will lose all agro. Point of interest: During an agro-shift, any mob that links will link onto the agro-shifted target! The Bind-agro-shift trick is difficult, and only works on bots. Also, it's allowed by GMs as long as you are not griefing actual players. (Bind has a long recast time and mobs build up resistance over prolonged casts)
The Toms (Tomaa-Tomgg) are a group of gilsellers on Bismarck, who camp Stroper Chyme 24/7. They have hacked the mob files, so that they will never target mobs other then blobs (Stroper Chyme). Using the Bind trick, I bound a bat next to Tomee. Another bat then moved closer, saw my bat now attacking Tomee, and linked on Tomee. Meanwhile, Stroper Chyme spawned around the corner, and Tomaa voked it. Tomee then woke up and walked to Tomaa to cure him (they are about lvl 50). If you know the tunnels where Stroper Chyme spawns, then you know that running around with a bat on you is a BAD idea. (Unless being RDM with Phalanx, then you laugh at that.) He managed to agro about 6 or 7 bats, as well as agro the Stroper Chyme by Cure agro. He died about 15 seconds later. Another Tom (BLM/WHM) tried to Tractor/Raise Tomee, but I kept bats bound on his corpse :) I didn't get any Stroper Chymes, but annoying gilsellers is fun too.
you can kill fishbots with mobs that do AoE attacks, or anyway you can MPK people. get a agroing mob, bring it to a fishbot, and bind it. That simple, it will attack them when you are out of range. Also, in qufim, you can pull a kraken to the fishbots and wait for it to do AoE, usually one hits them
