More than an hour killing pugils and goblin fishers up and down the cheval between I-8 and I-10 and no spawn. This staff would be nice for resting on a melee class that can't heal itself, but it isn't worth more than an hour of camping if you ask me.

After I posted this I went in to kill the spook in Ranperre's Tomb. When I came back out in the morning, Swamfisk was under the giant tree branch / root on the south end of the Cheval :D Of course, the staff dropped :)

Decided to camp this thing for the staff. Popped up on my screen after about 10 minutes of killing pugs. Was a 16nin/8war. Thing didn't even put up a fight. Hit me 1 time for 7 damage. I killed it in 6 hits and got the staff. 100% drop.

Hunting for sheep as a 15 Thf... I came across Swamfisk under the wood like arch at I-10. I decided to heal up to full life, and I knew I had my 2hr... so I figured," Why not try".... It took a long while and I started the battle with 110% tp so I started with a SA boosted fast blade. When I was at about 20 I popped out my 2hr.... got enough tp for a second weapon skill and killed the sucka. I now have the staff, I might help a little for farming (a little less down time). O and this is my first NM kill! WoooHoo... now to find that punky little worm >.> <.< >.>

ya i wanted to lvl every job that wasnt lvled to at least 10 so i was looking at the nm guide and saw swamfisk i thought yea ok ill try
so i went to camp it and i fell asleep thats what allnighers do to some1 who goes to camp something but when i woke up i was in a mind to give up then i said oh may as well try one more run

and yea its a 100% drop for sure
id say its a nice staff but really a whm and blm dont use a staff skill if you look at there af its a hammer thus club skill but its all good staffs look good on mages and this would be good too as you can skill up you magic through a whole fight and heal up fast if you get in a fix then attack with the staff as it whoops id advise like that as if you use the staff to just win your fights and obtain levels your magic and healing magic will take not will suck

I took this NM before, and dropped the staff. I Wanted the staff again and decided to go as WHM13/BLM6. I Started hunting Pugs, had Full TP and MP. 25 minutes later I hit a pug, and it was Swampy! Paralyzed and Slowed it first, used WS twice, and Cure II twice. I had low health afterwards, but what else can you expect from a lvl 13 White Mage? I Got the staff and I'm happy :D

I recommend camping BB (Bigmouth Billy) and Swamfisk at the same time. Kill the pugs/Goblin Fisher, and while your waiting for them to re-pop, kill all the Carrion Worms. Go look for Swamfisk, if he's not there, kill the Pugs/Goblin fishers again, than look for BB. Not there? Kill the Worms again and repeat all over again =P

so i was lvling nin at the time i had just got lvl 10 and then i was just killing pugs with RA and the first one i hit was swamfisk.. now i've been trying to kil him for almost 6 months now and haven't gotton him to popso i hit swam fisk and he killing me pretty fast so i 2 hour and commit suicide change jobs to BLM to have a little fun, i went down with no armor and he was there when i got back.. so after i let him try to kill me.. but he didnt i cast stupid spells like stone and water bio and i did combo as blm it was funny.. wel then i went and killed him thunder worked well and got drop so i feel its a 100% drop

I decided to camp this thing .. so i camp Swamfisk for like 1 hour and no pop so i left and come back the next day and kill like 5 pugils and there he was... easy kill and DROP... this is a 100% drop i can tell you that. happy hunting!!! im in diabolos server my name is Dersek.

Was soloing COR in the area, attacked a Pug in the river only to find another one suddenly start aggroing me. Took me a few seconds to spot the fact that it's name wasn't Pugil at all, and once he'd finished me off (level 6 Corsair, wasn't going to last long...), I switched to RDM, raced back and nuked him.
Got the drop, of course.

Spawns between I-8 to I-10. Lottery of the Pugils found in the stream in spawn radius. Took about 30 minutes to get to spawn. Spawned in I-10 of stream, midway. Pretty sure it's a 100% drop.
I've hunted this mob as three different classes and races so I think I've got some good info that I can share.
First time I took this mob on, I was a Galkan RDM21/BLM10. I had just gotten my Traveler's Mantle and was heading back and thought I'd take a quick look. LOL, there he was. Hit him with Paralyze and Slow and started hacking away with my Longsword; no food buffs or TP. He went down in less than five or six hits and I don't think he hit me once. Gelong Staff popped.
Second time, I was a Elvaan WAR13 (no subjob) with one twist. My main weapon was a Light Axe because I want to make this character a BST. While I'll be at skillcap once I complete the BST quest it does also make me not as strong a WAR as I could have been but I didn't care as my main job is THF. Anyway, I spent some time killing every Pugil up and down the Cheval until I found it. Attacked with around 100%+ TP but no food buffs. I used my two hour too. I fought it down to around 10 HP when it finished me off first.
I went back later as a THF17 and did much better. I was able to use Sneak Attack and did some really good damage with a Spark Dagger too. It didn't fire with every hit but the two times it did activate, POW! It went down in about four shots. Gelong Staff popped.
Third time, I was a Hume WAR11 using a Brass Zaghnal. I spent over an hour running up and down the Cheval killing every Pugil until it finally spawned. We slugged it out for like two minutes even though I used my WS Slice with 300% TP and my two hour, no food buff though. I fought it down to the point where whoever landed the next blow would win. Of course, it was Swamfisk (I swear the software is written to create this kind of drama but that's something else).
Went back as a WAR12. Same thing, killed every Pugil til it spawned so I had 300% TP on my Brass Zaghnal. This time, I had brought a Grilled Hare for the improved attack buff. The two hour only did about 35 points which was disappointing but the WS Slice did 87! Fight lasted a little over one minute and it took me down to about 50% HP when I finished it. Gelong Staff popped. I can't say it's a 100% drop with only three data points to back me up but three out of three is pretty good.
Well, I've tried to give as much info as possible so that ppl can try and get this staff at a lower level (which is where you really need it). It's very handy to have before you head off to the Dunes to party.
Remember, Swamfisk, just like most other NM, have a level range. I believe Swamfisk is listed as level 9 through 10. That one level could make a real difference in a close fight if you're only around level 12 yourself so keep that in mind.

Yes...if you actually read some of the posts you would see its a 100% drop, just like Pilgim's Wand & Van Pendant (im the only one in Cerberus that i have seen with it lol) i cant think of any others that are 100% but all 3 are very useful, Gelong staff is always in myinventory regaurdless of my job.

it took me 10min killed every pugil on the chevas or whatever river then went to the very south of it and kill it the drop is 100%

Christmas Eve and day have been real good days to camp NMs... not alot of folk on
So, been running up and down lake, killing EVERything.. cause I can I guess... and to kill time and any placeholders this might have..
been about 2 game days. nothing..

Also I see alot of RMT -wannabes asking how much this sells for..

2nd if you are camping NMs for sales, you are worse than RMT, and are making the game less fun for every person that wants to get good gear.

Went out to camp this guy after needing more +HP gear. I guess for the first time I just got lucky as I popped flee as soon as I zoned and when it ran out I did widescan and after scrolling through the long list of names, there it was. I figured I'd get there too late, but he was just sitting there and I got the staff. Took all of 10 minutes and that was including the airship ride. Spawned at I-9

cannotlinkto says that it is soloable by lvl 20. I was lvling my mule in the woods and decided I wanted the staff. I started killing pugs with no problems as well lvling off of the Gobbie Fishermen along the riverbanks. He popped in less than thirty minutes. I quickly ate some mithkabobs and a selby milk before someone else could just run by and get him. He put up very little fight with my monk after hundred fists and 3 Combos. Soloable by lvl 20? HA! Soloable by lvl 10 mnk with no subjob.

I also say the level rec. on somepage. I was running through as 19nin/war and decided to camp it for, well, no reason at all. Didn't bother to put any shadows up, use foods, or get a buff of any kind; in the end he took away a total of 20hp (maybe less, wasn't sure if I had full HP at start of fight). Also, yes, this drop is 100%.

Somepage is really, really conservative with their level recommendations to kill ... well, anything, really. I killed Swamfisk as a level 10 warrior with no subjob; I took on the Fodderchief as a level 12 warrior when their recommendation is, I think, 14-15.
I guess they don't want to be blamed if someone sucks at their job and gets themselves killed... or it's an estimate, taking the high levels the mages might need to solo a mob and the low levels the physical types can do it and averaging it. ^^

I was reading up about Swamfisk and the Gelong Staff, thought to myself this be great for my BST (lvl 14 ATM). Going through the threads reading about location and spawn time (pos:E.Ron I-10 , I-11 spawn time: unknown), I'd came across the thread "My story is better than yours", something every high lvl can relate too, helping ones in need... I though "hmmm...if I camp for this and some low lvl or newb claims it first, what shall I do?"
so my journey begins CAMPING! for Swamfisk.
Time started:
10:00am (pst) as DEADPOOL Lvl 13 BST/WHM

1:23pm (pst) DEADPOOL dings!!! Lvl 14 BST/WHM
so 3hrs of CAMPING! so far...seriously considering to quit

as I sprint my sorry *bleep* taru feet tords Swamfisk, it decided to swim away from me TORDS! yes you guess it Xristo! I got out CLAIMED waiting 4hrs!!! so I wait... his carbuncle was dying and then he got aggro by a goblin fisher "hmmm...i thought, the delima"
Xristo hp was draining fast, he then /say "heal me" I paused and think... "waited for this NM for about 4hrs now, its a 100% drop rate...sorry pal but you gonna die!!!"
he did die, and I'd claimed it and got the drop!!!

I killed swamfisk 3 times and got drop all the time i had to drop 1 of the 3 lol kept 1 for me and gave my friend the other (was ptying with me) so i think the drop rate is 100%

Was omw to King's tomb on chocobo and saw him just sitten there so I killed um and got the drop, easy guy just chocobo up and down river and if he's not up I guess you can make um spawn by killen alota pugs and gob fisherman

Was sitting there camping BB on my 15thf with /rng seen a few people up that way killing pugs and was like hmm fisk will pop be nice to have the staff to /heal so was like ill get BB this pop go and see if fisk is up so got BB (dropped green rock myth ore missed twice on the steals ><) soon as billy died hit WS and sure enough he was up lol here is my fight blind bolt >> acid bolt by this time well he had more hp then i thought >.>, I was like wow, so you know threw in a few swings in there and all of a sudden i seen "The Swamfisk readies Screwdriver" wtf? you goober {Sneak Attack} ran around and the screwdriver attack landed for like 14dmg one last hit and it went down i mean glad it readied it let me pull off a SA to make it go quicker but wow i was shocked to see such a low lvl pug use their godly SD ability i think it was cause its a NM same with BB (Bigmouth Billy) he can use Tremors (worm ability you know the one >.>) everyone in the zone walked past him literally but then when they seen that Tremors attack they all ran out over and was just watching. Anyways got the staff, no exp, hmm cant remember if i got a crystal though may have dont think so though, if your coming as a low lvl watch the screwdriver attack that move is no joke seen it one shot plds seen it do 50-100dmg its random it seems. I happened upon this guy when I decided to try to learn ScrewDriver early for BLU. I knocked the crap out of him down to near death and took off my sword to slap him around barehanded hoping for a ***** driver hit. After seeing everything else BUT SD and being down to red health I decided to just give up and end him.
The kicker was when I went to switch my weapon back on the game glitched and I never reappared after the change tho I was still hitting him with sword damage and shortly thereafter the game froze entirely. I apparently was ghosted long enough to kill him cuz after a reboot I came back he was gone and I had the Gelong staff in my inventory lol

The regular pugils in Ronfaure can use Screwdriver as well. They just usually die so fast that you never notice it. =P
LoL no kidding? glad they never used it on my thf when i killed the 50+ out in the saru's XD Does bring up a good point though why didnt the ones out there in east saru use it?? I know i had to kill at least 20 in like a 4hrs span farming rock salts when my thf was like 10 and i cant recall them using it, either way though im glad they didnt use it, i call that ability bs it so pwns a taru ; ;

Just ran into him today
i was comming back from giving the peas to the guy in the tower and i ran right past him! no camping recquired and no one was camping him either!
i almost died lol but i beat him! lvl 13 RDM
and obviously got the drop
