Solo'd on THF75/NIN37... with capped marksmanship (230) and evasion at about 265.
I was in the middle of a coin trading run, so I did not have any food on me, unfortunately.
I made sure to keep him blind, with defense down, using bolts.
Echo Drops are pretty much a necessity, as he hits pretty hard (140-160) with low delay, making recovery from a long silence very tough.
Orobon is definitely not one of the toughest NM's that are soloable.
I believe one would be safe attempting to solo with THF, NIN, or RDM/NIN.

Duo'd him with a 63 THF/WAR and me as a 63 RDM/WHM with no problem. The THF started out fighting with me hanging back to raise incase he died, but then we decided that we could take it. Dropped the Lure, which is pretty worthless IMO. It only goes for about 1k on the Auction House. But it was a pretty good fight, and it let the THF and I really test our abilities to take things down. I had to convert once in the middle of the fight, but I was missing MP when we started.
duoed it easily as 75RDM/BLM and a friend 75Nin/War drop is pretty much 100% and i've seen this thing fished up 15+ times on the same boat ride. Rdm/Nin could probably easily solo it if you bring echo drops given this bastards spams the hell outa an AoE silence ability.
Anyone know if any specific rod/bait/lure should be used? I tend to onnly catch fish, but WANT This for my Pup!

I fished one of these up with a Minnow/Composite Rod. Sinking Minnow may work as well.

Drops "Orobon Lure" used for making the puppet part "Strobe" which is the Provoke Module.

I was just fishing on my way to checking out the new areas when this thing popped. Never saw one before so I just assume I could take it (75MNK/37NIN). I finally got it dead with a couple of Cure 5's from passengers (I believe 5 in all) and Hundred Fists.
I pulled one up someone asked if i needed help,instead of calling for helpI asked him to invite me to party, he did. There was a whm hi 60's i believe and myself 73 PLD I cannot remember who other person was. WE killed it pretty easy although it has some hard hitting moves. This Mob drops Oboron lure,used in alchemy to make a strobe, Pup part i believe, Other 2 party members passed on drop and i got it.Initially it sold for 100k on quezt but now its around 15-20k also i believe this item stacks.Oboron looks like a giant angler fish the lure its the glowing ball at the end of its antenna to lure fish.
Fished this NM up twice now <-----75rdm/blm just not enought time to sleep nuke him >< gravity is your friend though!!! after about 8 sleeps he starts resisting alot and with protect on he was hitting me for 131 normal 216 critical gets stoneskin and blink off fast :/. next time im am going to chainspell right off the bat and convert quick maybe recast on covert will be ready again b4 boat docks. Brd saved my but when i ran out of MP thanks Sotaka :D

so anyway was chilling on boat going to do the COR quest w/ a blm in my LS when all of a sudden he fishes up this badboy. So im like hell yea NM!!! and run up and voke... thats when he started hitting me for like 160 w/ protect on as a 67 pld. I start to freak lol so i flash and then kite him around the boat for the last 5 min of the boat ride. Didnt get hit once after i started :P. Anyway no point to my story.. just thought it would get some enjoyment.
Yeah...it's always great when you're travelling on the ship as a Tarutaru WHM57/BLM28 and you get hit for twice as much HP as you have with his AoE move (didn't see the name of it). Fortunately the ship was jam packed and I got a Raise III. But that thing is deadly. Got soloed by a 75THF/37NIN (Also didn't see name).
AOE Silence, Virus, and Sleep at a pretty large range. Not a very nice guy. No siree.
A party of 6 of us varying from 34-75 beat this fairly easily on the way to Nashmau, only hinderence being that we weren't prepped for Silence - Our 34WHM (Allielle) in the hold casting Silena whenever we needed it. :P

Me and friend both 75 bst on our way to do some exploring. ans she fished this up. killed it very easily. Got some type of Fish Bait. ill edit post when i log on tonight.
he tore through me in about 12 hitsd as a 70 SAM/ 35 THF so i would sya hes one tough cookie
