These little buggers detect by sight. I was doing a SA TA burn party here, and whenever shadows went down and we couldn't get them back up, we'd hide to lose aggro and it'd go onto the next unfortunate thief :D
i was skilling up eva & X-bow other day while lfp. i killed 8 before getting an invite out of 8 i got 3 KS and 1 BS. this is as 68thf. this was the only time i tried this. gonna keep it up though skillup is pretty good. out of 8 i got 1.3 lvls in xbow and .6 in eva (mind you it was only 8 kills and 2 i had to hide from). marks is now 176 and eva is 201 fyi.
ok i got extremely lucky wiht my 30ks in two days. After more time farming these i realized that the drop rate i would say is the same as robber crabs.
from my experience, these have a decently good ks drop rate, i got about 30ks in 2 days, only soloing about 2 to 3 hrs each day, so in 6 hrs 30ks. 5ks an hour eh not bad.
I was trying to farm these while exping to get Kindred's Seals and they aren't droping. This is as THF too. Do they even drop them? I'm starting to wonder if they do.
Been invited to PTs over by the Leypoint area twice this weekend. Setup was 3 DD, NIN, BRD, RDM in both PTs. The PT I just left was NIN BRD RDM WAR THF SAM(me).
One word: Awsome. Like the person below said, way better than Crabs, but only if you have ToAU. No aggro, and they don't link. Max PTs I think that could fit in the Leypoint Tele area I think can be two. One PT seemed to always have lessers around.
Some tips to setting up: BRD and RDM stand on the Leypoint area (G-8 on the Map). Only thing RDM should do is Cure, Buff, and Haste, since these like to bounce stuff back, or your spells don't do much damage at all. BRD can then easily buff RDM, and the buff melee. BRD should buff melee or RDM while DD and NIN are fighting so that Ballad doesn't overlap on a melee, or Minuet on a RDM. NIN and the DD run in a circle around the leypoint; don't bother staying in one area since they don't link or agrro, you can chain faster running around. If you run this 'circut', continue either going clockwise or counter-clockwise around your BRD and RDM. Should be about 6-8 Lessers that spawn in this area, and pop very quickly. Tank should only worry about brining Shihei (if it's a NIN), although it's move "Pecking Fury" will eat up shadows quickly. Tank with food = waste of money, since it does like to steal your food alot.
With the above in mind, I got about 7300 in 1 hour and 15 minutes. :)
as a mid 50's PLD going up against these things, I was hella pissed when my TP would dissapear. It took me while to figure out that i was not insane, but that this bird was robbing me. Made my "Spirits Within" luster dim quite considerably.
I heard from some people say that when these bird use Snatch Morsel that they seem to gain the stats of whatever food they have taken, has anyone tried -stat foods to make them weaker?
Today my pt and I were xping on the Colibri's. Pt lvl range was 64 - 66. I'm a RDM. I can't remember the complete PT make-up since it changed often, but the jobs that stayed steady were PLD, MNK, RDM (me)and WAR. At times we had 2 RDM's, or a WHM or SMN for healing. We did not have a BLM. I know these things like to mimic the spells casted...they loved to cast them back on me a LOT, but I was casting the debuffs then since no BLM avail, would nuke. PLD yelled not to nuke or debuff at all as what ever I casted on the bird...the bird would then cast on him. Thing is...The bird casted the spell on me. His food was constantly stolen, that I do know. But, As far as I knew these things return the spell on the one that casted it, not the melee. Could someone verify this? I wound up sitting on the sidelines casting no de-buffs, no nuking...only refresh, cure and regen and an occasional Pro4. VERY boring ><
If you are talking about Colibri, not lessers, then in my experience as brd, my debuffs nearly always got reflected on me but with only 3 or 4 ever landing, only once or twice did i see a debuff redirected to anyone but me. So I'd say 99% go back at the caster from what I've seen.
we've had some success back tanking these guys, provided you can work out roughly when the bird's going to pop 'snatch morsel', you turn your back and keep your food, it tries 'pecking flurry' or whatever its called. Doesnt work every time though, so I guess cheap food is the order of the day.
me nadmy party was exping on them and at lvl 60 there con as VT to tough. Only resion we where exping on them was because we only had on most part of the time 4 members due to the lack of ppl seeking.
Anyway there tend to use "feather tickler" which resets TP to 0 and another move which removes status effect like food item. One of our members went though a lot of sush because of this bird kept removing the food stusts effect.
Also drops Colibri Beak and colibri feather. The beak been the most populor drop.
these seem to resist black magic A LOT. my obsorb spelsl hardly ever get through. also tehy seem to resist status bolts. my acid bolts hardly ever proc'ed at all. when i managed to rain a status, it doenst last very long.
Was XPing lvs 57-58 on these and our tank just stopped bothering to use food. He would lose it every fight. Stunning them when they try to snatch morsel might work, but food is a waste. If you pay 70k+ for a stack of your food, you'll use that up in no time. Really sucked because we were alternating between them and the Attercops which have Sickle Slash... which was pretty bad with no tank food.
We managed ok, but snatch morsel is one of the most annoying debuffs I've ever seen. And feather tickle isn't much fun either. Tank should use TP at 100 every time, or risk losing it all.
Our tank lost his taco right away last night not realizing the these parrots steal it. Anyways, after that, there was a move that would reset tp to zero. I'm guessing that would have been snatch morsel without food effects on. anybody confirm this?
Snatch Morsel just steals a food effect and I've heard it can steal a benefical effect, but I'm uncertain of that. Feather Tickle is the tp reset move, also a blu spell later on. Also a nice little note make sure that if you're trying to get some isp from these guys make sure the person tanking them isn't a sam... >.>;
I'm assuming the level range of these is 63-65. I soloed these as a 65SMN for a while, and there were EM and DC Colibri. The DCs would either give me 81 or 97 exp (with sanction), and never any different number. So I guessed that there were two levels of DC Colibri. I only see DC now at level 66.
I have been skillchain with Carby. My experience is - of the Summoner Skillchains with Carby generally - they weakest against Transfixition (Starbust->Poison Nails).
