Vana'diel Bestiary: Calcabrina  

General Information

• Timed spawn around the areas of (G-9), (I-7), and (J-5) in Beaucedine Glacier

• Respawn time is approximately 90-100 minutes after its last Time of Death.

• Calcabrina will appear in the tower alongside the Living Statues if it spawns in the (G-9) or (I-7) areas.

• Physical attacks have an HP Drain effect that cannot be dispelled.

• Immune to Bind, Gravity, and Sleep. Susceptible to Slow, Paralysis, Stun, and Elegy.

Calcabrina's Special Attacks

• Berserk - Self target Attack boost effect (Effect can be dispelled).

• Unlike the Warrior job ability, Berserk does not lower Calcabrina's Defense.

Historical Information

In Inferno, the first part of The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, Calcabrina was one of thirteen demons known as the Malebranche, which guarded the fifth of the Evil Ditches in the Eighth Circle of Hell.

In Final Fantasy IV, Calca and Brina were two dolls that belonged to and were used by the dwarven princess of the underworld, Luca. During the boss battle where you face the two dolls, should it drag on too long, they will merge into the larger, more powerful Calcabrina. In the sequel to Final Fantasy IV, The After Years, Calca and Brina reappear alongside Luca, but this time as allies rather than as enemies.
