Was camping Rampaging Ram last night to get Purple Belt, let me tell you at once that if you don't have patience, don't do this. It took me around 7 hours to get the Rampaging Horn. And although I was going as a level 50 RDM, I actually had a pretty rough time. Sure, I had about 300 MP left once I finished him off, but still, I did feel forced to have to use Enthunder... As a RDM, my position as a Healer has screwed up my Swordskill VERY badly. I am about 40 levels below normal (115). But oh well, RDM's enfeeble beats everything. Anyway, I got the horn after a lot of running around killing rams while hoping that nobody would steal the NM for me. Luckily, that didn't happen.
I didnt know it was NH. I thought i was a regular sheep(looking from the back the mob.). Next thing u know. I got my *** handed to me. LOL. Just wondering how much does the Rampaging Horn go for.
There is a Tremor ram that can spawn at 2 points (all within the 2x3 map grid between the crag and the left side of the mountain, where the stone monument is). The respawn time is almost exactly 10 minutes from time of death. It took me about 5-6 Tremor kills (an hour) to get Rampaging Ram to spawn. Rampaging is a lottery spawn from Tremors. It spawned around the stone monument mountain.
BST or RNG, sub or main, having Widescan will make it easy. Around the 10 minute mark start widescanning, search through list, repeat until you find a Tremor or Rampaging. Find it, "track" and run towards target hoping no one is doing the same.
Steelfleece is a lottery spawn on Rampaging (every 21-24 hours). So unless your high enough get out of that spawn area when you kill Rampaging or else you might meet your demise.
I solo'ed Steelfleece as a 75rdm/37blm. It wasn't hard, just took a long time. He never interrupts spells, so I was able to keep stoneskin/phalanx up all the time. Got the rampaging horn, but no Viking Shield. :(
More likely than not, if you see that it took a 51 warrior 5-6 axe hits to kill one, it's not a normal ram. The NM ones are a lot higher level so.... he obviously was killing the right thing and just wondering what the drop rate was <.<;;
I saw this ram today as my 35Thf/8Rng (just subbing rng for WS, i thought i would do some raming and some Eles). This was a VERY bad mistake. I heard from my friend that this was not something i should be taking on at lvl 35... but i said aw forget that! So i start off by using SA.... did a whopping 110 dmg and took off litterally a sliver of life. Yah that was my cue to run. I grabbed my Power Xbow, and got my Sleep bolts out, Shot him --> Slept him and ran to Dem... The whole time i was /shouting RAMPAGING RAM COMING TO DEM... so when i got there the Ram had woken up, and one of the whms stopped and healed me through the WHOLE fight. I got the Ramp. Horn one Ram horn and about 8 skins.... Well worth the fight
as people have stated before, there are 3 types of rams in the highlands. one being the normal ram..bleh low lvl noobs can take them. then there is the rampaging ram. its a NM so to solo it, you need to be in the 30's or so...no big deal. HOWEVER, there is then steelfleece baldarich. no, you cannot solo this, no you cannot take it with a group of 30's, etc. this is an HNM. there is a reason it only pops at 24 hour intervals. it will take a ful pt of roundabout 65+ to take him. the highlands is basically the same thing except their mobs are named different. myself being lvl 74 pld, i cannot take steelfleece on myself however, when i was lvl 72, my pt did take him. also, the horns drop of of the rampaging ram and also the HNM and vice versa for Lathiene(different name for horn)
My friend is a Whm and solo'd Steelfleech at lvl54... so yes, it is possible. I have another Whm friend who solo'd it at 67. Both of which were right infront of me and refused my help. =/
Not looking to ruffle any feathers, but I would have to be there and witness it first hand to believe it. Steelfleece Baldarich is a lvl 70 or so HNM. There is no way a lvl 54, let alone whm, solo a lvl 60-75 HNM. It being a HNM is easily gonna make it player a few lvls stronger. Unless after 3 years of game play, one witness to the slaying of Steelfeece, and numerous hours of reading FFXI forums(that was in no way stated to say i know everything, cause i will the first to say i dont know everything) I dont have a clue what I am talking about.
Someone can correct me if they think I am wrong, but it would take your friends forever and a day to chip away at its 15k to 20k hp.
If your friend did solo it, then that is awsome. I wont touch Steelfleece just yet, and i would attempt to solo him at 70pld/rdm. Would definitely consider it though.
I'm a 37 Pld, and I have solod both Tremor & Rampaging rams with no problems. When I was a level 30 War I tried the Steelfleece and got stomped into the ground. When I was waiting for someone to raise me 3 other people died. Then a full party of had to be in there 60's took the steel on, the battle lasted a good 5 mins with the DRK getting KOed. But they beat it. I wish I would have taken a picture or did some video of the battle.
anyone know what times or days is best for me to go hunt rampaging? I need it horn for a quest in bastok. I planning on soloing it tho.. i don't know what going to happen. im a drk/thf lv48.
my friend was a 35 thf thought he could take it on lol next thing i know he comes running around the corner of dem and spaming HELP plz dont hit me again mr.ram lol what a loser
First of all I’ll say this thing is a lot weaker than Lumbering Lambert was. But then again, this thing actually hit me unlike Lambert.
So the first time I ever saw this was as a level 30 Ranger with a level 15 ninja sub. I was obviously being a little cocky and ate it after taking away about ¼ of its health. After my death a team of two level 26’s (a monk and warrior) attacked it thinking they could defeat it. I laughed pretty hard when it used its max hp down on the two of them. It basically lowered their hp about 90 from what information I got out of them. They both ate it as well and joined my corpse on the ground.
My second encounter came a week later when I ran into him. I quickly invited a random level 30 thief and random level 30 monk that happened to be walking through the zone. We engaged it and things were going well until I used barrage and the ram decided to own me in the face. It finally stopped beating on me because the thief used sneak attack, leaving me with about 110 hp. I kind of just stood there after that not wanting to get anymore hate, but at the same time i prepared eagle eye shot because I didn't want the people who were helping me to die. By the time the thief was about one hit from death I finished it off and we lotted on the horn. I didn’t get it -_-
The third time I ran into it I soloed it as a level 38 ranger with my level 15 ninja as the sub. I fought him with all my gear including my Emperors Hairpin and Leaping Boots. I just beat a thief to him so I didn’t have time to think of a strategy like I did for Lambert if you read my post on his page. Anyways I finished him off with about 2/3 of my hp left.
Ran into it, killed it with lvl 36whm/18blm its not to hard. Kept missing me.. Did around 26 damage to me with each attack. I used banish II twice.. the rest was all melee and seraph strike.
I decided one day to walk from Bastok to San o' D. on foot (level 10 RDM, by myself). Why you ask? I needed to join the Carpenters Guild. Dont question my insanity. Anyway, I set millions of HP's and just RAN, avoiding any aggro I could and actually made it. It's not that hard to do, except I must be honest - I had help getting through the Dunes (had to /follow a level 30, that whole damn place is Aggro city). I got my guild, and on the way back to Bastok, I saw my first Ram in La Theine and, of course to a level 10, it was an awesome sight. I knew how nasty these things are, and have a warped sense of humor. So...I decided there was only one possible thing to do. I walked up behind it as close as I could, slowly, and used /psych to snag a really cool screenshot picture of a complete dumbass level 10 red mage who had a death wish. Thought I would share this with you all. Everyone I've emailed the pic to has laughed, as I have myself, at my suicidal red mage. Dynasty baby, BOOYAH!
LMAO!! I did the same exact thing as a level 8 Monk, right as I took the picture, it turned around and hit me once, I got a screen shot of my Arm in the air as it's head was hitting me and I was halfway to the ground. Can't find the stupid picture though. >.< /sigh
I just barely beat this guys with my RDM (40)the other day. Unfortunately I was out farming so I didn't have most of my accessories (I didn't have earings, neck, rings, waist or back on). So I was fighting in just my cuirbolli body piece and my RSE (I'm mithra) for hands, legs, and feet, plus my divine sword and my targe (shield). Also I was out as a thief instead of my typical BLM (or DRK/WAR when I want to fight hard things).
I was nearly at full MP and HP when I took him on. I did have to convert in the middle of the battle (was at 17 MP when I did this, was praying stoneskin and blink would hold out). I managed to beat him with 208 hp and 73 mp left.
In case anyone was wondering I did 2163 damage over the course of the fight (I went back through my chat log and added it up) and would up getting 300% tp twice during the battle.
Let's try to clarify this again: Between La Theine and the Konschtat Highlands, there are 6 types of ram. There is one "normal" type in each area, one regular NM for each area, and one Uber-NM (HNM whatever you want to call it).
For La Theine, the regular rams are "Battering Rams" - they are easy to a lvl 29 (groups of high teens could probably take these). The regular NM is "Lumbering Lambert." He drops one half of the horns needed for the Monk purple belt quest in Bastok (Lumbering Lambert's Horn). He is killable with a lvl 29 monk (barely), so could probably be soloed with little danger in the lower to mid 30s. The HNM is Bloodtear Baldurf. He's a lvl 60-65ish very nasty (very large) ram.
For the Highlands, the "regular" ram is a "Tremor Ram." The lvl is approximately the same as the battering rams in la theine. The regular NM is "Rampaging Ram." This ram drops the 2nd of the ex/rare horns needed for the purple belt quest. Again, it is killable by a lv 30 monk, but barely. Would want to be lvl 35 or higher to be safe (and even then, beware, as I'll describe later). The HNM in this area is "Steelfleece Baldrich." He's a 65-70ish ram, also nasty.
Just to reiterate, the ram that drops the horn on this page is the RAMPAGING RAM. He's a regular NM, killable solo somewhere between lvl 29 and 35.
Notes: Rams, esp. the NM rams have a nasty tendency to cast "HP down" (basically like raise-weakness) and Petrify... Also, Steelfleece has the nice ability to "pull" you back to him if you try and run away... So beware.
Incidentally, the regular rams in la theine seem to spawn far more often than the ones in the highlands.
Also, I realize that there will be some people who had no problem soloing the regular NMs at 27, and some that got crushed at 35... No level estimate is exact... It depends too much on the job and equipment (and luck). Always overshoot if you're worried.
guys guess what ure talking about the baldurfs, and the rampaging rams, the battering rams are lvl. 25-27 soloble, watch out for petrify though, can kill u trust me (:,then the rampaging rmas are lvl. 29-3? soleable, the 41 rdm was probaly doing a baldurf, very hard monster, tried it with my character, play alomost every day, so lvl up quickly, with my nin, at lvl. 55 it was hard had to use 2 hr for that
Just for reference, here is my experience with this thing. Note btw that we are talking about the "Rampaging Ram," one of 2 NM Rams in Konschtat (Steelfleece, a very high level NM is the other). The first time I encountered him, I was lvl 29/12 mnk/war. Ended up losing the fight because the ram petrified me for the last 30 seconds of the fight. The second time I was 32/16 mnk/war, and, using mithkabob and Hundred Fists, ended up with around 200HP left at the end. Seems the fight is variably hard to solo, depending on class.
Btw the horn it drops is Rare/Ex, and is used only for the Purple Belt quest in Bastok. The ram also drops random numbers of horns and skins.
me and a friend killed this mob. he was a level 23 whm/10mnk and i was a 25 whm. we both had to use our 2hrs and barely beat it. IT WAS #@%^ING HARD!!!!
i solo'd the rampaging ram at Lv42 THF/ 17 NIN..and it was still tough..pulled my 2-HR just in case..but yeah..this monster is quite hard..but worth it in gil i think for the items it drops =D
