we did the quest with two lvl 40 drks and a lvl 40 whm and a lvl 57 pld. lol both drks died and the pld almost died (even tho he says he didnt =P) anyways it would have been easy if it didnt use AOE stuff. now i drool over the scythe for 2 more lvls *cry* cant wait to use it
I don't post much, mainly cause I do research on this site, but since I got this at lv40, (can't wait to use it, lv42 atm >.<) just wanted to let everyone know how it went.
My LS on Garuda just happened to be doing this quest for a friend of mine, didn't even notice untill my party disbanded after I hit fourty. Then I was all gung-ho for getting it right then and there. The party was composed of four, after the other DRK logged when he got his, they waited for me to get there. LV71 BLM Kyubi, LV60something RNG Artemas (Anon) and LV55something (Also anon) WHM littledemon all helped me.
Traded the cherry to the ??? and the yagudo casted some useless spell. At this point it was a blur the fight went so fast... Kyubi grabbed too much hate, and i had to provoke offa him. >.<
no worries as three seconds later, barrage pierceing arrow or something like that for 1700 dmg ^^ done and done!
The fight was definetly less then a minute, and the quest was extremly easy to get the leg work done, did it all in about half hour as a rank 5, and a teleport-mea (Amazing to find a teleport from bastok when needed ^^) anyway, good luck, and just get some high lvl help!

Just thought I'd put in my input to give some perspective on this NM...
My friend and I both get 300% TP, I trade the cherry to the ??? and he casts Fire II on me for 314 dmg. My friend vokes the yag and I use SA + Slice for 253 dmg. Then my buddy unleashes 4 WS's (Tachi: Jinpu three times and a Tachi: Kagero all for about 500 dmg on average.) and finishes with a liquefaction SC for 500dmg exactly. The entire fight lasted less than 1 minute and while I took a good bit of dmg, was easy as hell...especially if you have a lvl 61 SAM helping you. ^^

Yea pretty easy fight for us cept the two rdms died but they really didnt care, they were used mainly for healing, here was the plan and it wrks: start out by elemental seal and silencen it, then the drk vokes(going by this pt set up) and the mnk sets up for the thf, we started out by using shadow of death and shoulder tackle to do a sc and then the thf sneak attacked and trick attacked and used her 300 tp(heh i forget wich ws) at that point it was about half way dead so the rest is kinda a blur cause i was so happy we where owning it ^^ but yea silenced this this is a wuss

Did this a little while ago with my LS, so I'll give you an idea what the fight was like.
Our party was thus:

I had heard that this guy was a piece of care from word of mouth, and I was pretty confident going in, having already completed several other AF1 quests with the same party.
We made sure to kill all the yagudo in the area before triggering him, just as much to build TP as to prevent links.
The DRK triggers the spawn, and the monster will intially come after the hapless darkie (the tank should have no problem voking it off at this point, however).
He was harder than I had expected. His job is BLM, so you ideally want to have him silenced and keep him silenced. This is hard to do, as if you're "level appropriate" for this battle, he should be several levels higher than you and quite capable of resisting you. His physical hits aren't anything to really write home about, and from what I gathered he drew from the standard "yagudo" bag of special attacks with things like "Feather Storm" and "Double Kick". That being said, they still hurt a good deal, and shouldn't be taken lightly. The REAL hurt comes from his high level AoE spells that he casts. I can't give a definitive list, but he did cast Aeroga and Firaga on us, and each did 100+ damage. Good news is that 100+ damage really isn't a crippling attack to a melee at this level, so if you can keep your mages out of AoE range (or ideally, the mob silenced) you shouldn't have too much trouble with this fellow.
If you have a level-appropriate party, some food, good gear, and a workable battle plan, there's no reason you should suffer any deaths.

I'm impressed :P It looks like you're the only one posting on this site who actually did the AF1 the way it was meant to: all the same lvl, around the lvl of the mob. Good job!
Beat the NM with a 75 PLD, didnt even get hit except from Stonega. Piece of cake.

Is it a good scythe for a lvl 43? or there is a better scythe at this lvl?

I used it all the way up till Vassago's Scythe. When comparing Bone Scythe and it, the attack was still 1 more than the Bone. And since they return the same TP I just kept the Raven because it also had the STR and INT. Barbarian has nice +attack, but what good is it if all you do is fan the mob to death?! Vassago's is the next step after the Raven in my opinion, after that either A l'Outrance at 62, for the low wait attacks, but is traded off with the absence of the +accuracy and base DMG, or wait till the Death Scythe at 73. So, Raven is a good scythe to use for a long time, up to you if you want Barbarian, Bone, or Demonslicer in between Vassago's.
I did the quest for this as I was Level 42 - just before I could use it! I brought a whole team in with me 68DRG - 57DRK - 53 BLM - 57RDM & Myself 42DRK - it was a piece of cake with that many people...but I just equipped it now and it's stats are as Followed:

the Scythe they are talking aobut is the "Raven Scythe" this is lvl 43, with the party you describe here you should be fine, but I must warn you I went to kill this mob with a lvl 53 whm and a 52 drk, this mob is difficult but we were sucessful.

you get to lvl 49 and can use the Barbarian Scythe.
or the Bone scythe, which i think is 53, i'll have to check...
And Vassago's Scythe at 58, which kicks *** but is a bit far off from this
