WHM in my parties have always used barfira when fighting against gobs. I think it works well if you are a soloing RDM.

I don't think it will because it's an item (bomb) thrown at you. Not a magic spell.
It works on bombs. If you are fighting gobs, your party really should have barfira up (or at least barfire for you, lol).

Yes, pretty sure Goblin bombs are fire damage.
