Quicksand Coffer Key
Went at it for three hours, killed everything I found and never got it. I quit after I got hit by Quake for 800+ dmg and died.
Went back the next day with an LS member, also a dragoon and we duoed three beetles before I got my key drop. If anyone cares, it was lightningday. Dunno if that matters.

As a Thf75 with TH4, I have found a big difference in drop rates depending where you farm for this key. My preferred camp when needing one is near the no.2 entrance from Western Altepa Desert (J-9). I usually get it very fast there as opposed to Eastern Altepa Desert entrances where it can take me a long time. Hope your farming goes well.

That's the thing though, when you're XP partying in QSC. The Coffer drops like candy. But, when you solo it, it doesn't seem to want to drop, I don't understand it at all, I've tried farming it for two hours a day, and on weekends almost five hours. STILL, no key drops.

wow you guys are having horrible luck i had 3 key drops in my last party in quicksand caves with no THF in party was thinking bout throwing it but i might keep it in case i ever get around to lvln SAM
Normal for the drop rate to be so low?
So far I've soloed 2 levels
Got 50 Kindred seals
3 stacks of beetle jaws
and raised npc 4 levels..........
NO KEY!!!!!!!!!! This Sucks.

i'm having the same problem getting one to drop.
been soloing here all day. Have easily killed 200 mobs.
Seems like the trend in the posts here is that exp parties see lots of keys, solo players see none.

i killed the spiders to get mine near the cape teriggan entrance and got one in about an hour..hope that helps a bit. sorry for the bad drop rate :(
Yeah something has to be wrong here.

in experience points,start what is now my second
stack of Kindred seals,be on my third stack of
beastman seals,and be on my 7th 3 hour food..
With not one key drop,It's totally nuts.
I have checked moghouse to no avail.
and have seen no message"You do not meet the requirements"
I have fought over 100 each of the mobs listed that drops it easily.
Just dunno..............Any ideas fellas?

Must be bad luck because in my last party as sam, we had at least 4-5 keys dropping.
Do I have to be in the quicksand caves from western altepa or does it not matter as long as it are those mobs?
Helm beetles just dropped one in my exp. party.

Well, I just read all the comments. guess I'll head to West altepa desert and enter from there (there part where Rabao IS) Aidrian was indeed confused between east(right) and west(left).
I was trying to farm the key yesterday. 8 hours and no drop. I farmed everything said that drops the key, but all under the Eastern part.
All but Sand Lizards... where are those? >.>'

Well, first time partying in Western Altepa entrance of Quicksand Caves, no theif, we got 2 keys in just over two hours. I guess we were more than a little lucky reading some of these posts.
w00t! Got my Key with help from people from my linkshell a 71MNK and a 54RDM. Now i can go to Aht Urhgan !!!!

OMG this fookin key sucks. I am a 71 THF. I have been killing everything in the Eastern Altepa’s portion of the Quicksand Caves. Been here off and on for over a week now. Each time I come out it’s for about 2-4 hours. Dumb question but dose this area no-longer drop the damn key. Hooken up with my Linkshell to go to the high level Western Altepa’s Quicksand areas but damn… what the hell is going on. I **** SE off or something???
Yeah, I got about 5 in a party where I earned over 10k xp. So that might be some indication. We had a thf though... Likely a factor.
Hunting the coffer was easy. I just did the rounds twice and found it easily. Note! If you open the chest, sneak will wear off. Better be ready to warp out quick if anything is near the chest. Anyway, I was just hunting the map. But I was considerate enough to let other people who needed keys get them first. If anybody needs the AF stuff and you just need a map, let them have the key. It's just so much more important for AF stuff.
But this shouldn't be too difficult as long as you can sneak around and use the maps that Sywyrn linked to. Happy hunting!

I was lvling off the Sand Spiders in a party and we got this drop. No one really knew if they needed it so we all lotted. I got it with 951, but being blm Im not really sure why I need it. Just for the map?
Anyone know which WHM spell does this Coffer Drop. Trease hunter says there is a WHM spell, and I think I read somewhere that it is Raise II. I tried to get the spell but it gave me gil.

After dealing with the Eldieme/Garlaige keys for the people in my static, I figured Quicksands would be a nice break....Not so...
My entire static of 53s was just destroying all the anticans, spiders, and beetles for over 2 hours, and everything from earth crystals to dhamel leather missives were dropping...but nooo keyyy. It just seemed wrong. We entered Quicksands on the Western side, (the side NOT with Rabao, I always get confused) and like I said, we fought everything that says drops the key. Everyone else is saying more keys dropped than their party could handle, what's up with this picture? Do only the ones on the eastern alteppa side drop it? Quicksands is quicksands right? I'm so confused!

Got this drop. Guess how? A lower level friend of mine was xping in Quicksands. He sent me a tell saying the key had dropped. Betting on their luck, I went and sat in quicksands, chillin', talkin to the sand spiders, singing about the fool Paladin who thought he needed AF here...They got another key. I got invited, lotted, and left the party. lol, coffer hunt time.

for the coffer maps little did they help without the map. However don't run so fast thru there we found one for our Dragoon friend on the ledge which you can not reach if you drop down.

Hmm... Same thing happened with me while partying here... got the key 6+ times, enough for everyone in party to have one plus we kept having leftovers..

We got about 5 of these while exping here on beetles and ants, the weird thing is that coffer keys are supposed to be such a rare drop and we got like 4 in a row even to the point that no one even wanted them :P

Yep, no Robber Crabs there.
Also, as far as I can tell, Quicksands only has a "Coffer" and not a "Chest". That may be why the key description just uses chest.

You sure you're not thinking of Kuftal Tunnel rather than Quicksand Caves? I've yet to see any robber crabs in Quicksands, and I know of no resource that lists them as being mobs there either.

i managed to get this drop a few days ago while i was leveling on helm beetles..i quickly remembered it was for my af (sam) so of course i lotted with an amazing 2 points ^^ the person who got it managed to have 350 or so points which made me feel even worse.. stupid blm >.<
that sux, blm would just use it for a map >< but drg and sam need it for AF ^^

I don't have a picture, but in the Quicksand Coffer Key description it tells you that it opens the "chest" in Quicksand Caves, not the "coffer". It's probably a typo, and I'm trying to figure out the screenshot function to get a picture of it.

After getting the map you can pull hordes of cash from the coffer, which is given to all members of the team. (not sure if it is divided then given, or just given, but all party/alliance members recieve it)

One question how do you get money from the chest. I have a coffer. Do I get money the first time around? Or I will get map first then I'll get money the second time i get the coffer?
So if you're not on an AF quest, and you don't have the map yet, the first coffer you open will give you a map? Or is the map totally random?

one of Dragoon AF items can be optained from coffer chest.
Also get the quicksand Map when you use this key on the coffer chest inside the dungeon.
