As best as I can determine- the latent effect is simply that it is used- you have to actually hit the mob. If you do, you have what seems to be around a 1/15 chance of warping.

the con of the mob is irrelevant, as is your HP, TP, moon phase, and day. When I first got it- I walked outside (as a level 56), whacked a bee. It missed me and I warped. One hit, no damage taken. It was firesday.

I think the latent is much more like the "Added effect" seen on other staves- like ice or dark. If you hit, you have some chance of the effect going off.

from my 15 or so times using it, this seems to be the most accurate theory.

Sry, but another note on staff. The warp does have a delay, like a spell, or warp scroll. So once you hit the mob and get hit as well, you must wait for the delay. ^^; gotta watch out for that.

From my experiance with this staff, it is trusted- and I love it. Saves me much EXP loss. BUT, i had to learn its tricks. In my knowledge i must be using the staff in battle for it to ever work.. I have never gotten a warp off it when it was mearly equipped. And the get hit >> get warp theory is a decent one. I have gotten it when my HP was not in yellow OR red.

I think that what it shows is- you must hit the mob, and the mob must hit you. Im not Square, so god knows if thats the exact formula.. But those conditions have given me 100% success on the warp.

Edit: I spent 68 gil to get this staff, Gave 1 grape to salesman up in Taumila's sundries. Got it first try.

Too many things can affect Latent Effect *sigh* a while ago when the first enhancement earrings were release on the game I...bought them all just to try out lol, they didnt work -_- so i resold them. But anyway, the Latent effect, do you think race, or even additional equipment could effect the trigger? I havnt got one yet (damn 10k in fruit and cookies) I also wonder if its effective by which pumpkin hat you wear..

Been wondering if there's a latent effect req that's met because it's the halloween event, that wouldn't always be in effect outside of it...^^
Random or level 1 ?
# Oct 25 2004 at 1:26 PM Rating: Decent
I warped at level 1 nin / rdm with a mandy from sarutabaruta on its first tries to hit and who missed me... (firesday, first quarter 47%)

5 minutes laters, as a 62 brd / 31 rdm i fighted a gob in sauromugue champaign and i'm still waiting on the warp. (firesday, first quarter 48%)

But the level, the difference was i had one buff : signet, that i had not before as a level 1...

Still searching some clue...

a guy with a treat staff told me he traded 2 stacks of 3 different kinds of sweets to 6 npc trick or treaters. This obtained him the treat staff, he said the 6 in woods during the holloween event. Oranges are the cheapest sweets, then maybe try other cheaper treats, like acorn cookies or rice cakes. Veriety does matter as is noted in the AD for the event on the title screen for the event. Dont let the capitalists mislead you.

lvl42 bm, 14 rng, 15 bsmstr, 21 red, 14 warr, 14 nin, and working on it.

Variety doesn't matter, only price of the food you're willing to throw away. I obtained all 8 of the Rare/Ex items using cheap 'ol oranges in Windy Waters. I stood and traded repeatedly to the same NPC until i had all 8 items and a total of about 40 jackolanterns. Of course I took several trips for more oranges, but it worked.

just managed to activate the warp on this twice, fighting raptors.

the first time it triggered, i was still at 100% health. he never touched me; i hit him twice, then suddenly warped. lightsday, 24% waxing moon, between 12:00-14:00.

i think i have to agree that this is an 'additional effect' rather than latent. either way, very nice for farming ^^

No it isn't, latent effects differ by item. For instance, the Enhancing Sword's latent effect is triggered by having an enspell cast on you, while the Sorcerer's Ring is activated by yellow hp and less than 100% TP, and the Warlock's Mantle is activated by having RDM as your subjob.

It varies a lot, the Yellow HP latent effect items are just some of the most wellknown latent effect items.

Trial Run 1:

PLD 59/WHM 25 running around in West Ronfraure
Unequipping everything except the treat staff so that I could take a few hits. Took on a variety of monsters and didn't trigger the effect. Tried mutliple ways of engaging combat such as hitting the mob with the staff causing damage, also tried using Flash to engage the mob in combat without damage dealt to them. Monsters did critical hit and no result. Time of day was mid-day (12:00 -> 18:00) lightnings day. Estimated moon phase: 17% Waxing.
---------------------

Trial Run 2:

SAM 1/WHM 1 running around in West Ronfraure.
Found a decent challenge bunny and took a swing at it and missed. Critical hit me for 4 damage. I hit back for 3 damage. Tried to hit me again and missed. >> WARP TRIGGERED. Time of day was lightnings day evening (20:00) same moon phase as above.
---------------------

Trial Run 3:

SAM 1/WHM 1 in Qufim Island. Found some Incredibly Tough seeker bat which hit me for more damage than HP. Dead. Returned to HP. Time of day was lightning day night (22:00->23:00) moon phase 17%.
---------------------

Trial Run 4:

THF 29/WHM 14 in Qufim Island. Aggro'd an even match Dancing Weapon. Hit me for 57 damage, I took a swing and missed. Hit me 3 more times for more than 150+ damage. Took a swing at him and hit him for 0 points. Hit me one more time for 57 points. HP was running extremely low at this point, so I disengaged and used flee. Time of day was ice day night (00:00 -> 2:00) moon phase 19%.
---------------------

So, this latent effect seems different from the previous year's latent. The trigger can happen at random when engaged I believe. I was partied in Yhoator Jungle and our WHM accidently left this equipped. When the mandragora turned on to him, he took one hit and warped.

I have a feeling that this latent effect MIGHT be triggered by a critical hit. But since my PLD didn't end up warping after receiving quite a few hits, its doubtful.

Edit: Missed a tiny bit of info >.>

Warp effect
# Oct 25 2004 at 1:44 AM Rating: Good
OK, I got some info that may help.
the effect isn't really latent. it's added.
It doesn't matter what lvl, what class, how much tp, or how much health you have. as long as you keep hitting things it will work.
If you don't believe me just try it out use a high lvl or a lvl 1 it won't matter as long as you keep hitting.(the effect has been tried and tested by me)

could someone post the npc that they got this from this october in sandy?
RE: 2nd time around
# Oct 25 2004 at 11:59 PM Rating: Decent
This thing is random, just like the rest of the halloween stuff. just give give give, until you either get it, or get tired of trying. i just wanted the pumpkin head, so i'm good
Need the info...
# Oct 24 2004 at 6:22 AM Rating: Default
There really isn't any information in here about who drops it and what you give them to make the drop happen. Is it just random?

EDIT: OK, I can confirm that you can get these this year. I got mine in Windurst by giving an acorn cookie to the trick phantom. I am pretty sure that it is random, however, and you might have luck with the (cheaper) sarabuta oranges. Just look for any NPC who is WALKING around and trade the sweet item to them. It took me abut 30 minutes to try all the mobs. It seemed that they were mostly located around the Windurst Waters area.

Also, the treat staff works for me every time on any day. I equip it (even mid battle) and whack the mob one time with it and "presto", I am back at my HP. I even hit a mob one time and then died. My dead body was warped back to town. (A much easier place to get a raise I might add).

Hope this helps and good luck getting your treat staff!

My warp stats:
# Oct 23 2004 at 11:06 PM Rating: Decent
Firesday 13:20
Last Quarter Moon (48%)

I read in another post (in the Main Forum I think) that the Latent Effect should be read as "Added Effect" such that it works about as often as the extra fire damage on the Fire sword for example. Neat little staff.

One thing that I haven't seen mentioned is that the normal animation that is associated with the Warp spell is not seen when the latent affect takes place. You simply vanish. :) (This is true for the person holding the staff as well as someone watching a staff-warp take place.)

i am a whm/sum i was using it to fight a monster and i used my heavy swing weapon skill after the fight i was warped to my home point. i checked and it said lightsday and a first quarter moon. maybe the latent effect is just using a weapon skill.

Well my buddy got one of these and we desided to test it out, went to west ronfaure and got his HP to red and nothing happened, he checked abilities, magic, etc.. no warp available and had no tp, so we decided it must be the Darksday theory, but no hes fighting a mob with under 100 tp and all of a sudden he warps, its had just turned over to 100% full moon but was on watersday.
Gotta have it

The latent effect seems to be triggered by darksday nights, which results in 20/30 minutes every 8 hours, I think. (0000-0400/0600, 1800/2000-2400?)

I hope they are available this year too... the looks of it are funny enough :)
the quest
# Aug 09 2004 at 7:27 PM Rating: Decent

so what do you do in the quest? Is l=it pritty simple? Or is it really time consuming? I've seen people with this and I wanted to know how to get it. Of course I do belive that this item marks the end of the blm if the "latent effect" is easily obtained! so yeah just some questions and thoughts!
