But I dont know if thats just my luck or not.

1)Steel ingot is about $70000/stack
2)Steel sheet is $90000/stack
3)Stell scale is $30000/stack
3)Fire crystals are $4000/stack
* You can make a margin profit between ingot and sheet. However, you will end up losing gil if u sell at steeel scale.

According to my experience, best way to lv smithing and obtaining scale while lving smithing at once is as follow:
Steel ingot (early 30s) --> steel sheet (lv 36) ---> steel scale (lv 40)
Steel ingot (early 30s) --> steel sheet (lv 36) ---> steel scale (lv 40)
