As with other items for the Mama Mia quest, Eye of Nept pays homage to an earlier Final Fantasy game. In the original Final Fantasy III (Not Final Fantasy VI, which was named Final Fantasy III in its initial North American release), the Eye of Nept was used to restore the Nepto statue within Nepto's Shrine, calming the sea monster and allowing the sea on the Floating Continent to become easily traversed.
