ok, first off knights of the round DOES NOT give temp invincibility, the regen is around 10hp per tick

the shield does 10x damage for shield bash and gives a AoE stun effect, so if i had it my normal shield bash is 21, i would do 210 damage, and its classified as a type one shield meaning it will go off a lot (if you have a high enough shield skill) but doesnt reduce as much damage as a type 4 shield

Actually according to Discordian who has Excalibur, using Knights of Round actually does grant a very short invincibility effect in addition to the regen, though he does admit it's very rare for it to occur. And the enhance shield bash effect doesn't mean it's AoE. The enhance shield bash simply makes the stun effect more reliable, almost 100%. In addition to the normal dmg of shield bash being 10x, there's an additional 10% chance of a 2-3x normal dmg one, so theoretically a 600-900 dmg shield bash is possible.

Actually..

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if there was a chance for additional: effect petrify every time you block with shield, or spending hundreds of millions of gil for this shield would be EXTREMELY disapointing. For instance when you activate "Knights of the Round" WS you get a temporary invincible 1/10 chance and a super regen 1/2 chance (1/10 and 1/2 might be wrong but its something like that). It's only fair that this would have some hidden bonus too, anyone paying that much for a 40 defense shield with some shield bash and magic damage reduction with nothing else needs their head checked out. Sure they're great stats, but this takes a LOT of time and a LOT of work to get upgrade, not to mention the gil.

Yeah, so this is a picture of that shield, along with the rest of Paladin's AFII and the Relic weapon Excalibur.

http://www.ffxigallery.com/uzor/?pg=screen&id=5585

You scroll around in there, it's got relic things for pretty much ever job, but whoever's making it hasn't completed it yet, as not every single race is in there yet.

Dude, that's tight. I'm currently a LV37 Hume PLD and have obviously a long way to go before I get the AF II.

But it's always fun to glare and glance at it before I get it. It gives me more of a motivation to strive and get there faster.

Thanks for the post!^^

aegis shield is one of the upgraded forms of the new Relic Shield. the relic shield has been found in Dynamis Jeuno idk if it drops anywhere else. aegis shield is probly just the first upgrade and i agree with mishaela it will probly have some major magic defense by the end of it.

Relic Shield → Bulwark Shield → Dynamis Shield → Ancile → Aegis

Taken from MT. Of course "aegis" simply means "shield" anyhow, lol.

# May 06 2005 at 1:24 PM Rating: Decent
Anyone know anything on what need to be done to start upgrading the relic shield... having trouble finding stuff.... <Help Me Out> =p

---------------update-----------------

okay so i hve the relic shield and i went and talked to Switchstx in Castle Zvahl Baileys in order to upgrade the shield one needs
-Switchstix-
"To reforge the relic shield, I'm gonna need a square of amaltheia leather, an orichalcum sheet, and a piece of ancient lumber. Yep, that's the bare minimum."
I'm assuming these items also drop in dynamis.. anyone got any info please help and post =)

You can find all that on AH. My initial inpression was that this would be the cheapest relic to upgrade, it seems like it so far.

Now does it have an additional effect petrify, that activates when you shield block? That's what this shield did in Greek mythology, and was the favorite sheild of Athena I believe.

Err, you seem a tad confused. Aegis was the king for whom the Aegean Sea was named after. The shield Athena gave Perseus may be what you're thinking of, and it was used in order to slay Medusa. It was shiny~ and therefore he could use it as a mirror and not be petrified by her horrible visage. Pegasus sprouted from her decapitated body. This is... way off topic, apologies.

Here's the bit that threw him off.

The Aegis was Zeus' shield (though he sometimes lent it to Althena). It had the image of Medusa on it though it didn't have the power to petrify or anything like that.

This, along with the Rainbow set, is NOT IMPLEMENTED YET. It's stats will be changed as necessaary once it is, for now it has a fake level to prevent people planning ahead to get this. Knowing previous FF games, this will probably wind up giving some "Magic Def. Bonus", but you never know.
