Linen what? Thread? Cloth? That's quite some misinformation.

It's 1 linen cloth, much like Gobbiebag #2 is a wool cloth.

You want to find Bluffnix in Lower Jeuno in the junk shop at location H-9. If you have enough fame, he will give you the quests. The fame requirements go up for each quest, so you may find that you have to stop and raise your fame before doing the next gobbiebag. I am from Windurst so I already had fame there and I used the quest Only the best to raise my fame in San d'Oria and Bastok. It was very simple and you get all or most of your investment back (depending on AH prices).

Here are the links to the quests:

Gobbiebag 1

Gobbiebag 2

Gobbiebag 3

Gobbiebag 4

And their requirements:

Gobbiebag 1:
A Steel Ingot (Materials > Smithing) ~5k
A Linen (Materials > Clothcraft) ~2.5k
A Peridot (Materials > Goldsmithing) ~7-10k
Dhalmel Leather (Materials > Leathercraft) ~1.5k

Gobbiebag 2:
Mythril Ingot (Materials > Smithing) ~5-7k
Ram Leather (Materials > Leathercraft) ~1.5k
Turquoise (Materials > Goldsmithing) ~15k
Wool Cloth (Materials > Clothcraft) ~5k

Gobbiebag 3:
Painite (Materials > Goldsmithing) ~15k
Gold Ingot (Materials > Goldsmithing) ~30k
Velvet Cloth (Materials > Clothcraft) ~3k
Tiger Leather (Materials > Leathercraft) ~1.8k

Gobbiebag 4:
Cerment Chunk (Materials > Alchemy) ~4k
Dark Steel Ingot (Materials > Smithing) ~9k
Silk Cloth (Materials > Clothcraft) ~3k
Goshenite (Materials > Goldsmithing) ~5k

Total: 20 slots for ~115.3k, depending on server prices.

This is about what it cost me on Ifrit, but I consider it a worthwhile investment for farming purposes and for those really long trips with a RNG or mage carrying juices.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Gobbiebag 5 costs about the same as 4. 3 is the most expensive.

I think this is more lvl based. I was lvl 25 & it wouldn't give it to me, I went to Kahazam & lvled to 30 & got it no problem... I didn't do any quests between either.

I disagree, on that. At level 30 he wouldn't give it to me. 4 stacks of moss later he gave it to me. My guess, punknever, is that you are either a bastok or sandoria citizen, and that you have done quests in those cities, but very few in windurst. And when you came back from Khazam, you did the discerning eye quest, which is windurst related. So, you leveled up a little bit Windy, hence, Jeuno, hence you got the quest.

-Edited to make sense on my initial statement.. I expected it to be posted at the bottom of the 3 comments, not at the top.. ^^

I got the quest at level 23 with 24 unique sandy quests and 10+ repeatables, 23 unique bastok quests and 15+ repeatables, and 4 windurst quests.

I'm gonna have to disagree with this. I went for the quest at lvl 30 and couldn't get it. I went and did the selbina quest "Only The Best" several times to up my fame and got the quest this morning, without leveling in between.

why don't you go check your fame to make sure you have enough of it to do the quest. he won't give you the quest if you don't have enough fame.
not hardly any fame needed
# May 20 2004 at 9:12 PM Rating: Decent
I have only one or two quests before doing this one, and it was the chocobo quest, so i don't really think fame is much of a requirement.

Got this quest when:

Bastok:
Fame was at level 5
"A lot of people know about what you've done for Bastok."
Windurst:
Fame was at level 3
"I've heard pretty good things about you."
Selbina:
the subjob quest
one step of the selbina clay[/i] quest
the [link=http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=Other&fquest=166]recycling
quest in selbina

San D'Oria:
Never visited

Mhaura:
Never spoke to anyone except the ferry operators.

Jeuno:
Fame was at level 3
"Yes, I heard some travelers in a tavern talk about you. It seems you've a reputation."

Note that I had 0 quests done in Jeuno at this point (had just arrived for the first time)

Fame Guide <- used to determine numerical fame levels from fame NPC conversations.

I only needed 26 quests to get this quest in jeuno
easy fame
# Mar 22 2004 at 10:08 PM Rating: Excellent
I have moderate fame in windy and almoste none in bastok or sandy. Will I get the quest?

haha j/k

all that is true however I did trade 8 full stacks of boyhada moss to the guy in selbina, at 8k a stack it was pricy (64k) but he gives you 600 a pop witch ends up costing you 800 a stack or 6400 total. So I ended up with 57600 of my original 64000. This netted me enough fame to do both the gobbie bag I quest and the goblin tailor quest.

Just a thought.
RE: easy fame
# Sep 15 2004 at 4:52 AM Rating: Decent
just to reiterate, i only bought 4 stacks of moss, at 7k, 12 x 600 = 7200 = 200 profit

but besides the math, i had never done any quests in bastok, besides dark flag quest, and i got both RSE and gobbie bag quests after...

Another watermark for fame:

At Jeuno fame 1 (none), Windurst fame 4, Bastok fame 1 (none), Sandy fame 1 (none), I did not get this quest. At Jeuno fame 2, Windurst fame 4, unknown Bastok and Sandy fame, I did get this quest. For reference, the Jeuno and Windy fame level was determined according to:

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=107835343872548975&num=4

To pump up Jeuno fame to 2, I traded in a stack and a half of Boyahda Moss for the Selbina quest (talk to the guy near the sheep). I also did a couple of monument runs for the mayor, though I don't think that changes your fame until you actually hear the quest music, which I have not.

do at least 25 quest in your home town, 10 san and wind then do 5 quest in jeuno and you will get Gob bag1, I tried doing it at 25 home quest and 5 jeuno quest but it won't give me the GB1, so I think you have to make the fame checker say "oh ya, I know you" in order to work
