Summary

Norejaie wants you to exterminate an ecological threat and bring her evidence of the feat.

Walkthrough

Norejaie is located in the Lion Springs Tavern at (K-6)

Also potentially referred to in game as the V.E.R.M.I.N. quest. It involves traveling to La Theine Plateau and heading into Ordelle's Caves. There Rojaireaut will "smear a scent on you" (cast a Level Down effect on you) to "draw the beast out" and then you're off to explore the caves and hope whatever jumps out at you.

You have to go to the bottom of Ordelle's Caves to find a stalactite with a ??? tag. When you click on it Necroplasm spawns. Due to the level cap it took two full parties to take down Necroplasm. He hit for around 100 on level 20 warriors. After beating Necroplasm, re-examine the ??? and receive a key item. Go back to the inn in Southern San d'Oria and you get 5,000 gil and a page of the Dragon Chronicles.

First off - everyone is a noob at one time or another. A good leader is going to explain all the details around the quest, including any time limits. Just because you are new, doesn't make you *stupid*. It makes you ignorant and there is a big difference. (Tiny steps down from soapbox.)

I did this quest for the first time on Sunday. It went very well until we discovered one person did not speak to the NPC in the tavern to get quest, so someone ran the person all the way back from the caves to the tavern and they spoke and got the quest. Then after returning to the caves - it turned out the same person did not have any lvl 20 or below armor ... this person dropped from the alliance.

It was a 3 party alliance. The leaders were excellent and gave great instructions. I was the only whm, but there were two rdm as well, so healing actually went well as we cut through the gobs to get to the Boss.

The Boss was defeated rather easily. I was surprised it died so quickly, everyone then touched ??? and everyone got the key item.

The gobs starting popping again ... but several people had already warped out so the party was very slim in defense. I tried to get to the NPC who oils you down so I could return to full whm status instead of lvl 20 and then raise dead and heal more effectively. Unfortunately, I was killed along the way.

No choice but to HP out. By time I could return to caves - those killed had HP'd out so intentions to raise were out the window.

I went back to the tavern. I got a 5K reward, but I did not know what to do with the page of Dragon Chronicles. I am still carrying it. I spoke with the NPC in tavern again. He reassigned the quest which I accepted. It occured to me afterwards I should trade the page to him. I am not able to trade. I suspect this is because I now need to do the quest again or I need to talk to another NPC.

Since the pages give you exp pts you can save them till your close to lvling. Especially if your party disbands before you get the chance to lvl. Use the pages to get your final exp pts and reach your next lvl.

The Page of Dragon Chronicles is free for you to use, because when you use it on yourself, you will gain a random amount of experience points. Don't lose it now :)

just did this quest the other day.....went really well.
Organizing the quest was the hard part, that took a lot of time (i suggest just doing it w/ ls and planning it about 3 days in advance) , but doing the quest from leaving Sandy to using Dragon Chronichles only took 45 min.
WE had a high lvl WHM clear out all the gobs for us, 12 of us doing the quest, and no one died until they ran ahead after we got the key item.

Basic overview if u want to do quest....

1.) plan ahead- makes things go a lot smoother, includes getting people, checking equip, and making sure everyone can get quest

2.) get a high lvl to help- u have almost no chance of getting through at lvl 20, unless ur very lucky

3.) DONT touch the ??? until everyone is ready- this mistake can be fatal for everyone, so DONT make it.

4.) have a leader- having someone to control things that people will trust makes everthing less painful and quicker.

5.) about 10-18 people will do- make sure some of these are adv. jobs, having a couple pallys and rangers can really help in this quest.also 2 WHMs is pretty much necessary, unless that 1 WHM is REALLY good

My Suggestion:

1.) meet in Sandy at set time
2.) go to caves and make sure u have a map, or someone who knows the way
3.) kill the monster (simple enough)
4.) go back to V.E.R.M.I.N guy
5.) head back to Sandy a reap your rewards =P
20 isn't minimum..
# Aug 18 2004 at 9:24 PM Rating: Decent
I just wanted to clear up that 20 isn't the minimum lvl for this quest. I was offered this with my 17 whm.

# Aug 18 2004 at 10:44 PM Rating: Decent
Ya you can get the quest befor lvl 20 but its not too smart to do it until lvl 20. Its a tough qust even with a bunch of party members. Also you get capped at lvl 20 if you are hihger then 20.
Eco
# Aug 12 2004 at 10:24 PM Rating: Good
I do believe that this Eco is easier then the other two. I've never done Bastok but this fight has always been much easier then the three flies. Did it tonight with 10 people and our tank lost his ointment from d/cing right before the battle. The hardest part of the quest is getting down there without people running ahead. Someone to clear the path is almost a must if you want to get rid of the Will-o-the-Wisp without getting anyone killed.
Get Sprayed together...
# Aug 12 2004 at 5:34 PM Rating: Decent
The Alliance That Gets Sprayed Together Stays and Slays Together!

Maybe this will help someone that has not been through this quest…

/rant on

On my first failed attempt at this (the Sandoria version) I was not prepared for the chaos a group of 18 people can create…
I noobishly expected the alliance leader to um…lead and give clear instructions to everyone, every group has first timers :-/ I myself screwed up and didn’t get sprayed because I didn’t even see the NPC hidden behind our alliance lol…sad. So the leader sends myself and another unsprayed back to get sprayed which I didn’t realize would be certain death for us both. Funny how 18 people can cut through those caves going in and how easily 2 people get slaughtered coming out! Needless to say I died and left the party very unhappy.

Second attempt, I am all prepared, got sprayed, got scroll of warp, all was going good… till that whole chaos thing comes back and half of the people would not listen to our leader… who was actually doing a fine job considering he was leading a bunch of deaf, mute simpletons…poor LilB, I am sure he has gray hair from that little field trip…oh yeah it ended badly. I managed to live and get a tele-holla out after our whm lost his level cap.

Third and final attempt…great group of people with good leadership, smooth and quick in through the caves with the group staying together and getting sprayed together. When we got to the ??? the leader started to say “No one click…” Well someone jumped the gun before we had any buffs and some mages got early aggro and died (3 total). One of the dead was the premature clicker so his death was A-OK with me -.-

After all this I now want to do Windy’s and Bastok’s Ecco Quest lol

/rant off

The real advice is:
This can take awhile to get 15-18 people together, so if you don’t have a couple hours to kill don’t waste your time
If possible, carry a scroll of warp. If your alliance bails you will get out safely.
Do not get sprayed by the NPC inside the cave until your leader says to :-)
Do not get click happy when you see the ???
Stick with your group
Carry and extra WHM ;-)

if you wont a fast way to pull a Eco-warrior off here is the key bring 2-3 smn's with u have the smn 2 hour then use one over there avatars special moves (DONT USE CARBUNCLE) it will do anyware from 300-350 damage to BOTH mobs at the same time. just think a pt of 5 smn's and 1 pld could pull this off easy

correction:
if you fight the nm's that spawn off the ??? and die. as long as you kill both of the nm's you will still get the item just hp (or raise) and go back get the oitment and touch it agin. as long as your pt killed both of the nm's you will get the item and not another spawn

My turn to do V.E.R.M.I.N!
# Aug 09 2004 at 3:47 PM Rating: Decent
Yay! It's time for me to post my story of doing Eco Warrior. I didn't even have any initial plans of doing it that night, I had actually been planning on going to Qufim to do some levelling.
I heard some /shout's of people looking for members fro ECO Warrior, and joined right up. It took a good 1.5 - 2 hours to get enough people, and I forget the exact number, but I believe that we had 14-16 all together.
We get to the cave, finalize a few details, and everyone gets the scent. Unsurprisingly, 2 members start saying that they were not given the scent, and they leave the PT. Here's the funny part, about 20 minutes later, we all start wondering why we are not getting healed by the mages, only to realize that the 2 members that could not venture any further WERE the only 2 Main job WHM's, which left us with a 20BLM/10WHM and a 20PAL/10WHM.
Amazingly enough, we still pull it off, no one even dies. There were a few EXTREMELY close calls, with HP falling into double digits for a member or 2 a few times, but that was it.
The only person that died was a MNK that disbanded as soon as battle was over, and promptly got himself killed. Everyone else styed PT's/Allianced until we got back to San D, just so we could get a group picture taken.
My only complaint/grievance is that I "only" got 512 exp from the Dragon Chronicle. But hey, exp is exp, so I'm fine with it.
I would give my details about PT members, but I honestly can't remember.

i know this sounds far-fetched... but i did the quest last night with only 12 members. it was 3 WHM, 2 PLD, 1 DRG, 3 DRK, 2 RDM, and 1 WAR. all it took to take out the jelly was well organized implementation of our 2hr abilities. we coordinated the usage of the PLD's invinicible and used it once after the WHM used benediction, and once after the first invincible wore off... of course, at this time everybody else would fire off their 2hrs as well, but it's well worth it. we all hated waiting for others to join so just went on with our 12 and actually pulled it off.

Its not that far fetched. I have seen 12 people pull off the Bastok Eco-warrior while I was sweeping for them.

The sandy eco-warrior is much easier than the bastok one.

Will-o'-the-Wisps
# Jul 26 2004 at 6:09 PM Rating: Good
watch out for Will-o'-the-Wisps down by the ???

they have that nasty "Self Destruct" attack and love using while standing in the middle of the alliance. If you see one by the ??? make sure to TERMINATE IT WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE. If you have a PLD or DRK make SURE they know to shield/weapon bash it (H2H users can shouldertackle it as well) because if it manages to get Self Destruct off you will most likely lose a few members.

ALSO IMPORTANT: The "When Somebody Dies" instructions

If somebody dies, if they can get a raise within Ordelles, they can run back to the NPC at the entrance, get the ointment again, and get the key item by touching the ???. HOWEVER, if they zone (ie. HP it and walk back) and try to touch the ??? again, they will spawn the monster a second time (not advisable in most cases.)

Yeah, this is the part that kills most parties. Once the mob is dead, people seem to get stupid. They rush for the exit, disband the alliance, get aggroed by tough goblins and end up getting dropped and homepointing. The last time I did it, the alliance leader told us all multiple times to stick together on the way out. The minute the mob was dead, however, the three party leaders used scrolls of instant warp, then disbanded the alliance and their respective parties. So everyone was left down there in a state of confusion. Half the people rushed for the exit and got slaughtered. The rest of us tried to organize and make our way back out as a group. That worked until half of the group decided to keep going while our mages were healing MP. They got aggroed and dropped. While the rest of the group was on the way to try and help them, we got blocked off by multiple goblins, aggroed, and dropped.

One little trick: if you find yourself stuck down in the cave having to make your way back up, log out, then log back in. that will remove the level cap. Make sure you got your quest item first though.

To answer some previous, old post, you cannot have more than one Eco-War at a time. Also, you cannot cancel and Eco-War quest, you must complete it. If you take it again after the sunday update, you must complete it again to be able to pick another Eco-War, etc. etc. Be warned of this when picking your Eco-wars. However, considering the rewards, ANY Eco-War is good. Besides, they're mostly just as hard as each other, so you're probably not missing much. There are some differences ( One monster, many monsters, etc ) though. That, and the difficulty of getting through the rooms, and the difficulty of the monsters IN those rooms.

I joined an eco-warrior pty this morning. Ended up organizing the entire thing lol If you dont have much tolerance, DONT try to organize one of these... we ended up getting to teh battle fine (minus one member) and began teh battle (i was half insane by this time) hehe i used astral flow+ifrit+inferno and did 363 damage (Galka summoner =D) the stupid doomed died quickly only a blm died too.. this was my decond time doing it and this is my second sucess ^_^. My tips:

Make sure tehre are at least 3 healers and that ensures that everyone stays safe ^^

Designate one person to touch the ??? so that NOBODY presses it soon

tell all the members whoa re not pty leaders to talk in /tell so you avoid confusion.. lol

I just did this last night. We went with 18 people and by the time we got to the Necrosplasm we were down to 16, once people figured out that they didnt have the quest. We killed it in about 45 seconds. We had...
.4 whm
.2 blm
.1 smn
.3 mnk
.4 war
.1 drk
.1 thf (me)
It was one of the easiest fights i've ever been in. First, we killed all of the gobs in the room, didnt want them interfeering. When someone touched the ??? and the Necroplasm came out, the 3 mnks immediately used their 2 hr...that alone probably could have done the job. Both the blms and the whms and the smn were nuking, the whms threw around a few cures but nobodys health even went into yellow, except for mine. The wars and drk just swung away, if the wars would have provoked, its pretty much suicide. I probably got the most hate, mostly from SA, steal, and gust slash. My life just barely touched yellow before i had 6 mages throwing cures at me. It was an easy fight, the only hard part of the quest was trying to organize 18 people to go in there.

I just typed up a big long explanation of this quest on the message boards, so I decided to post it over here too for the benefit of others. Apologies if you read it twice consequently.^^

Get an alliance. You'll need it.

You'll rarely find enough people to make a big alliance just by shouting in town. Get your linkshell together. If you don't have enough people in your linkshell, then form an alliance with another linkshell. In order to accept the Ecoquest, all players must not have another one active (there is a variation of the Ecoquest in each nation) and must not have already done an Ecoquest within the RL week. To have the best chance of winning, everyone should be level 16+ for mages, and 18+ for tanks. The battle will cap you at level 20, so everyone above that level needs to make sure that they have level 20 gear, especially if they are melee. When forming the alliance, keep the parties balanced so that there is at least a healer and a provoker in each party. Designate someone to be the main tank for the alliance.

The monster that you need to fight for the San d'Oria Ecoquest is located near the westernmost entrance of Ordelle's Cave-- the same entrance that you visit in that early San d'Oria mission where you need to find the missing guard. Talk to the NPC in the first room, and he will impose a level cap on your members. EVERYONE who plans to fight the NM must talk to the NPC.

This next bit is optional, but it may help. In order to reach the room where the NM is, you will need to turn left at the first room and proceed through a hallway filled with goblins. It can be pretty rough on a level-capped party, so if you have a higher level friend who can come along and clear the path, you'll save a lot of time and pain. The goblins CAN be killed by you (the hardest ones are leechers, muggers and the like). If you need to go that way rather than with higher level help, just make sure that you fight every goblin one at a time. Don't try to run past them-- someone will get aggroed, you'll make a massive train, and people will die.

I'm not sure of the precise map location of the fight room, but I'm sure you can find it on this site. It's way down in the lowest corner of the caves, if you have a map. If you see goblins of the pathfinder, smithy or shaman types, or any malboro type monsters, TURN BACK. You made a wrong turn-- the Eco-NM is in the *other* lowest corner.^^;

Clear the room that the ??? is in first. You don't want goblins, beetles or will-o-wisps aggroing while you fight the NM. If you don't have the resources to clear the whole room, at least get rid of the monsters near the stalagtite, and any will-o-wisps about. Will-o-wisps aggro to magic, so they will dart over and decimate your mages mid-fight unless they are killed. When everyone is rested and buffed, have the main tank touch the ???, and a gigantic blobby monster will spawn.

This is the part where you fight, and probably a few people die, at least the first time that you try it^^. Things that may help--

1.) This thing is weak to fire. Use fire-based SCs and have the black mages use fire, but make sure that they are conservative in their casting. They'll do a lot of damage to it, but it will also get MAD at them really quick.

2.) It hits for decent damage, though it isn't as bad as the jellies that you need to fight for the Bastok Ecoquest. Have each white mage take care of their own group, but have them make a /target macro for the main tank as well, so that they can help keep him alive without needing to tab through 17 other people.

3.) It is undead, so Holy Circle and paladins and the other usual strategies for fighting undead apply.

4.) It has an AoE. Have the mages stand as far away from the melee as is feasible.

After the fight, there will be a ??? at the top of a stalagtite. Everyone needs to touch it to obtain a key item. If anyone died and you can get them a raise before their level cap wears off, they can get the key item too.

Run back to the entrance and speak with the NPC again to have the level cap lifted. Then return to San d'Oria for your EXP, gil, and fame.^^

If someone dies, their level cap is gone. But once they're raised, they can go back to the NPC, get re-oiled, and come back to the ??? for the key item. Worked for me in the Bastok Eco-Warrior.
RE: Walkthrough, woopah!
# Jul 26 2004 at 6:11 PM Rating: Decent
If you die, you CAN get raised and get the ointment again to get the item.

BUT if you zone (or HP and hoof it back to Ordelles) and touch the ??? again, you'll spawn the monster a second time. Not advisable in most instances.

some smartguy thought it was funny to touch ???, then he died.. the rest of us didn't have too much trouble with it.
