Walkthrough

Orc Crest

=== NOTE: You will need Invisibility for this entire section

- Travel to Davoi, once in Davoi, go to the Zone entrance of Monastic Caverns at H-11

- Zone back to Davoi at the SW corner of I-8. At this point you will be in the house area at the center of the Davoi map.

- Head East across the bridge and then north onto the top of the fort at J-8 to a Tarutaru.

At this point, one person will need to do the mini-quest to get the Crimson Orb at this point to proceed farther. Speak to the Tarutaru to receive the quest. You must touch the Banishing Gate in Davoi before the Taru will give you the mini-quest.

The mini-quest basically tells you to go to the 4 red pools in Davoi. The pools are located at the NW corner of H-10, the NE corner of L-9, NW corner of E-8, and the last one which is not displayed on the map by yellow is found by following the river at H-6 north and to the east. WARNING: When you dip the orb into the 4th pool it curses you, so plan accordingly. Return to the Tarutaru with the Orb to receive the Crimson Orb.

- At this point proceed to the Banishing Wall at the SW corner of J-9 and have the person with the Orb open the gate by clicking on it. This will open a hole in the wall which anyone can walk through. WARNING: This room is populated so if you are doing this alone, make sure all the orcs are looking away when you drop invisibility to use the orb. The zoneline is only a few feet past the wall so if you do get aggro you can run for it.

- Once you've zoned over to Monastic, it's located just after you cross into J-6 on a ledge to the left.

-- Quadav Crest

=== NOTE: You will need Sneak only for this entire section. You also need to be doing, or have completed the Rank 5 Magicite mission to be able to complete this part.

Helpful information: - Mute machines silence you - Afflictor machines curse you - A silenced person can't be cursed by the afflictor - Echo drops remove silence

~~~ - Head to Beadeaux
- Once inside, follow the Tunnel down at H-7 (1st map), then proceed to the tunnel up at F-8 (2nd map).
- Once up top again, hug the right wall to the ramp at E-10 (1st map), then take one of the ramps in the northeastern half of this map at either (K-7) or (J-7) to get back to the lower level. Once there, take the tunnel down at section K-6 (1st map).
- Once below again, follow the path to M-8 (2nd map) and then zone over into Qulun Dome.
- The crest is located on the borderline of I-6/7. In the first room is most likely an NM, so make sure he's wandering away from the door before you try to run through this room. In the 2nd room, all the NM's are generally at the far north side of the room.
Yagudo Crest
=== NOTE: You will only need Invisibility for this entire section, please don't step near the leeches.
Important information:
  • It is imperative that you start this quest at the very beginning of a new game day as the passwords will change every day. (more on that below)
    • This section can not be completed by a single person unless you have some sort of movement enhancement (flee, strider boots, Ninja AF boots
etc..)
- Head to Castle Oztroja
- For the first part you will need to find out what the password of the day is, which requires collecting the information from 3 brass statues.
- Head to the SE corner of H-8 and open the brass door. Click on the statue inside to receive the 1st password.
- Now head to the door at I-8 and then go up the stairs to the 2nd map (Remember the 2nd map as I'll be referencing it later). On this map, head to the exit at G-7 and zone over onto the next map. On the next map head north to I-7 and zone over to yet another map. Now head to the SE corner of H-9 and open the brass door and receive the 2nd password from the statue. (Note: If you've done the paladin AF2 quest, this is the exact same spot you were sent to fish)
- Proceed back along the same path to the 2nd map. (The one I told you to remember) The 3rd statue is located on the NW corner of I-8. If you've never experienced this section of the map before there are blocker points preventing most of the "obvious" paths and forcing you to walk around the outside.
Now that you have visited 3 statues, you should have 3 passwords. The ones I collected from multiple visits are Mong, Deggi, Duzu, Mjuu, Ouzi, Xicu, Ovzi, Buxu, Haqa, Gadu, Puqu, Duxo, Zhuu. You may receive other ones but write those 5 down in case the day flips over and you have to "guess" later on in the quest.
At this point you can actually go get the crest.
- From the 3rd statue point head west to the 4 lever door at the SW corner of G-8. To be honest I have no clue what the correct sequence of levers is, but I found that if I randomly flip them it generally opens the door. Once through the door, head up the stairs and zone over (G-9) onto a new map.
- The next map is pretty straightforward, just remain invis and don't step on the Yagudo Parasites (leeches), and proceed to the next map at H-11.
- You want to proceed through the Brass door at H-7 from here. In order to do that you must have someone light one of the 4 torches.
- There are torches at G-7, G-8, H-7, and H-8 in each of the small rooms. From my experience they all do the same thing, which once lit opens the brass door at H-7. This is where you need the 2nd person. One person lights the torch, the 2nd person goes inside (The door can be opened from inside). The Yagudo in the torch rooms operate on sight only so if you wait patiently for them to face the walls you can drop invis, light the torch, and re-invis. You can do this part solo with flee.
- Once through the door, there will be a wooden plank with a red circle (trap door) in front of a Brass Statue. Have everyone stand on the plank and have click on the statue and input the passwords (Order doesn't matter). The trap door will open and everyone will fall through to the bottom. Don't worry about invis, the bottom of the trap door is safe. Be sure to put it back up afterwards however.
Note: If you've taken too long and a day has passed, the passwords may have changed. Try a few of the 5 I provided in addition to your own and hopefully you can get through. If not, enjoy visiting the statues again.
- Once everyone has dropped down through the trap door, you will see a long corridor leading to a large room with a series of ramps up to a center platform. The ??? to get the Yagudo crest is located on the central platform. At this point you'll need to keep a lookout for the Yagudo NM (Generally the High Priest).
- Wait for the Yagudo NM to be sufficiently far away from the center platform, then travel up the ramps to the center platform, standing "behind" any regular Yagudo which may be on that platform, drop invis, click the ??? and re-invis.
- If you are in a large group, I highly suggest you send people up one at a time so that if they get aggro, they can run to the base of the ramp and die in a suitable fashion and not kill everyone, but still be within tractor range.
Once you have all 3 crests return and speak to Maat to raise your level limit.
Oztroja segment
# Oct 22 2004 at 1:11 AM Rating: Good
I just wanted to post some info based on my most recent venture to complete this quest.
I did the Davoi and Beadeaux parts of this quest some time ago, both times while I was part of a coffer key/skill-up party. I don't recall enough details to offer any suggestions for those areas, but having just completed the Oztroja part (and thus FINALLY Genkai 3 altogether), I can offer the following tips based on a lvl 60 job.
1) For me, aggro was not a problem until I crossed through the final switch door leading to the password area. At worst, the Yagudo I passed conned EP, but did not aggro. Please note, however, that I am RNG/NIN, and I have passive job abilities that may have allowed me to wander past EP Yags without getting aggro where other jobs may have been attacked...please be cautious.
2) Once you drop down after entering the password, it appears there is no safe way out. If you don't have warp, tele-xxx, escape, or a scroll of warp, it's entirely possible you will have to death warp out. (There was one area at the top of this "room" that may have had an exit, but it was closely guarded by a Yagudo High Priest when I passed by, and I wasn't able to investigate further).
3) If you get aggro here at lvl 60, the odds of you being able to defeat the Yag that attacked you appear to be slim. Perhaps an RDM/NIN could handle the ensuing fight, but for anyone else, the second you get aggro, do your best to warp out and try again.
Beyond that, if you're so inclined, read further to find out about what exactly I went through to complete this quest:
First attempt: I was moving around gathering passwords when I happened across a WHM and asked them if they were doing limit 3 as well. They were, we grouped, finished gathering passwords, and headed to the ??? to get the crest. I found the ??? and invis started to wear off. I tried to step out of aggro range to re-cast Tonko: Ichi, but the WHM grabbed their crest and started to cast escape...as I moved out of Escape casting range, invis faded, I got aggro and died.
Second Attempt: I blundered...I got past the switch door leading to the password entry room and forgot to put up invis as I ran past an EP Yagudo...it aggrod. As soon as I realized I couldn't kill it, I used a sleep arrow to, well, put it to sleep hoping I could run far enough away to make it forget me. I used Camouflage for instant invis, and ran...and ran...and ran. I thought I was safe, and Camouflage was running out, so I stopped to cast Tonko: Ichi...as I finished casting, I noticed a cluster of red dots on my radar moving towards me...the aggro Yagudo had not only woken up, but it was very angry with me and brought some friends to teach me a lesson. I made it to the room where you enter the password before they caught up to me and sent me back to Jeuno.
Third attempt: I learned from my previous mistakes, made it to the ???, got the Yagudo Crest, popped Camouflage and ran to a safe area. I went to use my Scroll of Instant Warp, only to find out I had forgotten to pick one up. While searching around for a potential exit with invis up, I got aggro from a Yagudo High Priest who gave me a quick trip back to Jeuno where I was able to slap Maat and complete Gankai 3.
Best of luck to you on this quest!
Easy in general
# Oct 08 2004 at 10:15 AM Rating: Decent
Just did this limit last night. It was pretty easy in general. I'm a whm, so i have almost unlimited sneak and invisible >o< lol. Davoi was pretty annoying, but is not as dangerous as ppl said. i'm a lvl 59 whm, i don't get any aggro doing the mini quest. But the annoying thing was that you have to touch the banishing gate before the taru is going to give you the mini quest. It is possible that you can drop invisible w/o aggros. i waited about 5 minutes that every orc in front of the gate was looking away. after touching the gate, put invi back on and go talk to the taru again, he'll give u a quest. you have to either escape or go back to back to get to the 4 pools. Finish the mini quest and talk to the taru again, you'll get a orb that you can open the gate. put stoneskin and blink on if you are a mage. you can do the samething by waiting for every orc to look away. Or you can just drop invi and make a run for it, cuz zone is couple of steps away.
for the beadeax part, I just get cursed, and keep going until the last affictor. when you get to the last room, try to check every mob, try to stay away from the NMs. when i was there the NMs were at the right side, and i just went the left side. and i was done with this part.
for the Castle part, you need a partner or you can do it solo if you are a thf. just follow the guide and get all the passwords, and lever pattern. when you get to the last part. put up everything for defense you got. protect shell etc... when i was there the High priest was on the left side of where the ??? is. When you get to near the ???, don't try to wait for the Yagudos to look away. As soon as you get there, drop invi and touch the ???, even if you died you will still get the quest done. I made the mistake of waiting for the yagudos to look away. Here's waht happened, i was waiting for the yagudos to look away, but my partner didn't. and i saw the high priest was casting Banish III, and i told my pattern to warp as soon as you got the crest. BUT GUESS WAT.... the High priest was casting Banish III on me > <' lol. i got hit and invi dropped, then i immediately click on the ???, phew... luckily i got the crest... i started casting warp on me, and got it off on the third try.... But i died while zoning /cry... so i was lying there in jeuno..... dead... but i was happy cuz i finished the quest... so don't wait around for the yagudos to look away, if you do, you'll likely to get kill by the High priest... if you get aggro after getting the crest,it's better than lying there dead w/o the crest. XD
hope you all have fun with this quest.... LOL
Beadeux was cake walk and Davoi was easy, only thing I hated about Davoi was the foot work u gotta do, going from pond to pond etc...
And yes like everyone said, Castle Ostraja was a bi***. When I fell through in the Brass Statue thingy I sneak and invi, not knowing that time that the Yagudo High Priest that people are talkin about aggro even when u have sneak/invi. So I waited in the center where the ??? was, waiting for the Priest turn then he faced me, and did that aggro sound, and im like WTF, he hit me so I chainspell and escape but as soon as I did he hit me again I died as I escape :( Note: I think that the Yagudo High Priest is a HNM and not a NM, HNM have true sights and aggro to sneak and invi.
Edit: o ya i did got the orb my second try.
The crimson orb IS reusable :) It's how you get back in to fight Orcish Warlord, Hexspinner, and other NM orcs :)
Do you need to get the orb again if you die/warp/escape/etc. once you're through the banishing wall and need to go back? Not sure if this key item disappears once it is "used".
Wow. I don't know what to say, other than I'm totally depressed.
After soloing the first 2 in Beadeaux and Davoi, I gathered the courage again to solo Oztroja. Everything went well and I finally made it to the final open area.
Creeping around I managed to stay out of the range of the Yagudo High Priest that was lurking at the very top of the center platform. It's basically such a small area that any hopes of taking off invis and grabbing the crest and recasting without getting aggro is impossible.
I spotted what I believed was the Yagudo Crest, a spot on the edge of the platform that was a nameless target (as opposed to the ???). I finally made one last suicide run towards the target, getting hit by 3 different Yagudos at the same time, only to get this:
There appears to be nothing out of the ordinary here.
My heart sank, I was hit by Stone IV or something by a Yagudo Elemental, and I delvld to 59. And now I have to do it all again and find the right ???
This was so frustrating, I hope this doesn't happen to you.
After a break I returned and completed Genkai 3. Apparently the Yagudo crest is not located at the very top platform, but about halfway up where another Yagudo High Priest spawns.
I waited 'til the High Priest and another Yagudo were looking away and I quickly dropped invis, clicked on the ???, threw invis on, and ran to a safe area to cast Warp.
You can imagine how relieved I was when this was all over.
I'd also like to add that it isn't absolutely necessary to bring another person with you to open the last door. I've been up there a few times and there is a lot of traffic in that area and many people are constantly opening the brass door due to the fact that a coffer spawns there.
There is a hidden room in I-10 of the second floor that has the correct lever arrangement in it. I still just randomly flip levers until it opens, but the correct order is there in I-10 behind a hidden door.
this quest deffinately sucks. I wouldnt have been able to complete this without this guide. all of the words in my password for castle oztroja were in the list, I just had to guess at an order.
Beadeaux is by far the easiest one to do. sneak and camoflauge (im a rng ^^) and there were no problems.
Davoi was annoying because I had to get the orb myself, causing me to get cursed. ad being a rng without a whm subjob, I had a long run back to the taru. I suggest saving the pond in L-9 (where the nm spawns) until last. the mobs around there didnt aggro me at 60. and if you want, you can sit there and wait for the curse to wear off. if you are at one of the other ponds last, then you might find yourself walking through IT orcs while cursed...that means you cant flee to out run them.
Castle Oztroja sucked royal ***. I fond my way to the top with no problem. I lit the torch, and ran through the door (btw, the torch I lit on Sylph was the one on the SW corner of the map). I aggroed an assassin without noticing. he killed me. luckly, I was by the door, and the mages outside the door were just killing yagudos. and they were nice enough to give me a raise. after teh raise and the weakness, I punched in my code, fell down, and got my crest.
I was the 4th person in my LS to do this. the first wasnt online at the time, the second was busy, and the third had no clue what to do because he followed the first guy without paying much attention. now that I finished it, the rest of my LS will be catching up soon, and will want me to help them with this >< Oh well, thats the price for advancing above the average level of the LS.
Thank you for this guide. I wouldnt have been able to do this if it werent for this guide.
Ruby Quadav and High Priest both have True Sight (see through sneak/invis). Orc may have one too, but not sure which.
Excellent guide!! The quest was truly a piece of cake and completely solo-able. Did every crest in one sitting. No aggros, no deaths, only 1 close call lol. My snk/invis failed on me 3 times in a row right infront of the HNM yaguda high priest; strangely enough he didn't even budge. 4th time a charm, tried the brass doors to the rear of the raised alter, just below the crest. No luck, needed some holy key or something like that =P
Walzed on back to the drop point and used my trusty warp scroll. Slapped Maat for my 65 limit break. Went on to level got level 61 after chowing down on a single raptor. I wish all quests were like that.
I completed this 2day, soloed the Davoi and Beadeaux parts, i died once in Beadeaux, managed to reraise II myself and finish it.
The Davoi part was probably the hardest and most painful pain in the *** part.
I died 2 times, 1 time with reraise II and the banishing wall when i had to examine it to get the quest from the taru and reraised with 1 of the orcs looking my way which i couldnt see so i died and lost 2k exp all together doing this quest. Took me a few hours doing it, had to warp out of Davoi like 9893485937468947 times because i cought aggro.
do i really need to ?
do i really need to go check the statues.
Names provided here seem to be extracted from NM yagudos.
So i wrote down all yagudo nm names, and i'm planning to only go to the door and break the code !
Is the door a safe area as i'll need maybe a little time to find the right words.
other question : i have to provide 3 words but will it tell me if only one is right or do i have to give the good 3 in one time ?
Thx
edith : did castle Oz yesterday with a very nice brd (thank you Kibalx) !
spent about 10 minutes figthing with entering the code because of ****ing Maj !
words were : Buxu, Puqu, and Ouzi
pretty easy !
... broke the code!
For the Yagudo Crest, I tried using the passwords supplied here, but came up one short. I didn't have time to get to any of the password statues, so I started randomly typing in stuff. That lasted one min. Then I started looking at the passwords, and something clicked. We have some really active NM hunting LS members. Took me awhile, but I recognized the NM names.
The passwords are words based off of Yagudo NMs.
A comment on Davoi Part.
1) in order to get a quest from Taru mage you should
a) talk to the mage
b) go an examine the Banishing Wall at the SW corner of J-9. At this point either be prepared to die or find a way to escape the zone. There are 4 Orcs waiting for you. You might got lucky and examin the wal while they are not looking, but chance for all 4 of them not looking is sleem. Personally I put Blink/stoneskin on. Droped invis. Examined the wall, cast Escape and then get back to this taru to receive the quest
c) after examining the wal get back to Taru mage to get a miniquest
Now, about Correction. To all people who use Brady's Strategy guide. There is an error in the discription of Davoi part of Genkai 3. They want you to go to J-7 to look for ???. THIS IS WRONG.
??? is in J-6 in empty room. J-7 is in the room full of Orcs, including 2 NM that can see through Invis.
if your a thief doing this and want to make the door in oztroja before it closes. you need to hit flee before you hit the torch.
Though it may be possible to make it if you do it after. you'll have a hard time. especially if you are using ninja for invis
Actually, you don't need to light any of the torches =P
There's a little secret about the door that I'm assuming not many people know. Stand directly in the center of the door and go to first person view. Turn to your left slighty and start tabbing and you'll lock onto the handle on the other side. Keep twisting and trying to use the handle and it will eventually let you in w/o lighting any of the torches. =D
It's a little tip some of my THF friends found out while coffer hunting. It REALLY comes in handy during coffering.
He probably should have said you need sneak only, and common sense. -_-
What is meant by sneak only, is sneak, and not invis. As is said in the description, the Ruby Quadevs have true sight. They are not hard to avoid.
I just did this in about 20 minutes as a 57 BRD/WHM
I got lucky for the torch room. I was going just to check it out, expecting that I wouldn't be able to get through. But there was a party that opened the door right as I walked in. They did something I thought worth sharing, though.
They sent a Beastmaster to the torches. He had a jug-pet (crab) with him. He sent the crab after a Yagudo, lit the torch, and (I believe) used Flee to make it to the trap door just as his party reached it. While the Yagudo killed the crab, they all entered the password and hurried to the ???.
I was gone before they reached the ???, having hurried myself to make it when the High Priest wasn't looking, but I believe all 3-4 of them made it alive.
1. You must examine the wall before you talk to the Taru in order to obtain the mini quest
