Walkthrough

Orc Crest

=== NOTE: You will need Invisibility for this entire section

- Travel to Davoi, once in Davoi, go to the Zone entrance of Monastic Caverns at H-11

- Zone back to Davoi at the SW corner of I-8. At this point you will be in the house area at the center of the Davoi map.

- Head East across the bridge and then north onto the top of the fort at J-8 to a Tarutaru.

At this point, one person will need to do the mini-quest to get the Crimson Orb at this point to proceed farther. Speak to the Tarutaru to receive the quest. You must touch the Banishing Gate in Davoi before the Taru will give you the mini-quest.

The mini-quest basically tells you to go to the 4 red pools in Davoi. The pools are located at the NW corner of H-10, the NE corner of L-9, NW corner of E-8, and the last one which is not displayed on the map by yellow is found by following the river at H-6 north and to the east. WARNING: When you dip the orb into the 4th pool it curses you, so plan accordingly. Return to the Tarutaru with the Orb to receive the Crimson Orb.

- At this point proceed to the Banishing Wall at the SW corner of J-9 and have the person with the Orb open the gate by clicking on it. This will open a hole in the wall which anyone can walk through. WARNING: This room is populated so if you are doing this alone, make sure all the orcs are looking away when you drop invisibility to use the orb. The zoneline is only a few feet past the wall so if you do get aggro you can run for it.

- Once you've zoned over to Monastic, it's located just after you cross into J-6 on a ledge to the left.

-- Quadav Crest

=== NOTE: You will need Sneak only for this entire section. You also need to be doing, or have completed the Rank 5 Magicite mission to be able to complete this part.

Helpful information: - Mute machines silence you - Afflictor machines curse you - A silenced person can't be cursed by the afflictor - Echo drops remove silence

~~~ - Head to Beadeaux
- Once inside, follow the Tunnel down at H-7 (1st map), then proceed to the tunnel up at F-8 (2nd map).
- Once up top again, hug the right wall to the ramp at E-10 (1st map), then take one of the ramps in the northeastern half of this map at either (K-7) or (J-7) to get back to the lower level. Once there, take the tunnel down at section K-6 (1st map).
- Once below again, follow the path to M-8 (2nd map) and then zone over into Qulun Dome.
- The crest is located on the borderline of I-6/7. In the first room is most likely an NM, so make sure he's wandering away from the door before you try to run through this room. In the 2nd room, all the NM's are generally at the far north side of the room.
Yagudo Crest
=== NOTE: You will only need Invisibility for this entire section, please don't step near the leeches.
Important information:
  • It is imperative that you start this quest at the very beginning of a new game day as the passwords will change every day. (more on that below)
    • This section can not be completed by a single person unless you have some sort of movement enhancement (flee, strider boots, Ninja AF boots
etc..)
- Head to Castle Oztroja
- For the first part you will need to find out what the password of the day is, which requires collecting the information from 3 brass statues.
- Head to the SE corner of H-8 and open the brass door. Click on the statue inside to receive the 1st password.
- Now head to the door at I-8 and then go up the stairs to the 2nd map (Remember the 2nd map as I'll be referencing it later). On this map, head to the exit at G-7 and zone over onto the next map. On the next map head north to I-7 and zone over to yet another map. Now head to the SE corner of H-9 and open the brass door and receive the 2nd password from the statue. (Note: If you've done the paladin AF2 quest, this is the exact same spot you were sent to fish)
- Proceed back along the same path to the 2nd map. (The one I told you to remember) The 3rd statue is located on the NW corner of I-8. If you've never experienced this section of the map before there are blocker points preventing most of the "obvious" paths and forcing you to walk around the outside.
Now that you have visited 3 statues, you should have 3 passwords. The ones I collected from multiple visits are Mong, Deggi, Duzu, Mjuu, Ouzi, Xicu, Ovzi, Buxu, Haqa, Gadu, Puqu, Duxo, Zhuu. You may receive other ones but write those 5 down in case the day flips over and you have to "guess" later on in the quest.
At this point you can actually go get the crest.
- From the 3rd statue point head west to the 4 lever door at the SW corner of G-8. To be honest I have no clue what the correct sequence of levers is, but I found that if I randomly flip them it generally opens the door. Once through the door, head up the stairs and zone over (G-9) onto a new map.
- The next map is pretty straightforward, just remain invis and don't step on the Yagudo Parasites (leeches), and proceed to the next map at H-11.
- You want to proceed through the Brass door at H-7 from here. In order to do that you must have someone light one of the 4 torches.
- There are torches at G-7, G-8, H-7, and H-8 in each of the small rooms. From my experience they all do the same thing, which once lit opens the brass door at H-7. This is where you need the 2nd person. One person lights the torch, the 2nd person goes inside (The door can be opened from inside). The Yagudo in the torch rooms operate on sight only so if you wait patiently for them to face the walls you can drop invis, light the torch, and re-invis. You can do this part solo with flee.
- Once through the door, there will be a wooden plank with a red circle (trap door) in front of a Brass Statue. Have everyone stand on the plank and have click on the statue and input the passwords (Order doesn't matter). The trap door will open and everyone will fall through to the bottom. Don't worry about invis, the bottom of the trap door is safe. Be sure to put it back up afterwards however.
Note: If you've taken too long and a day has passed, the passwords may have changed. Try a few of the 5 I provided in addition to your own and hopefully you can get through. If not, enjoy visiting the statues again.
- Once everyone has dropped down through the trap door, you will see a long corridor leading to a large room with a series of ramps up to a center platform. The ??? to get the Yagudo crest is located on the central platform. At this point you'll need to keep a lookout for the Yagudo NM (Generally the High Priest).
- Wait for the Yagudo NM to be sufficiently far away from the center platform, then travel up the ramps to the center platform, standing "behind" any regular Yagudo which may be on that platform, drop invis, click the ??? and re-invis.
- If you are in a large group, I highly suggest you send people up one at a time so that if they get aggro, they can run to the base of the ramp and die in a suitable fashion and not kill everyone, but still be within tractor range.
Once you have all 3 crests return and speak to Maat to raise your level limit.
I just wanted to note, that for the 4 levers in Castle Oztroja, there's a secret room behind a wall you can target that says nothing. but there will be 4 levers in there in a set pattern, and this will be the pattern you need to set the other levers to. I'll post the <pos> later when I get around to genkai 3.
You people are crazy. Beadeaux was a snap. I just ran through every single afflictor until I got to Qulun Dome. Then I cursna'ed myself (BLM/WHM lvl 60) and rested to full. Ran right by the ruby quadav into the next room and ran along the left side of the bigger room to the ???, warped, done. Wasn't hard at all, lol.
Davoi was easy too, especially since you can cast invis when invis still hasn't worn off. The only trouble we had was when I tried to open the gate and realized I didnt talk to the taru for the last time ^^; And the other BLM in the party discovered Overlord Bakdekhdkehdkehdk for us. One tractor+raise later, we ran around the side of the room to the ??? and warped out.
Oztroja sounds hard, and i'm attempting it tonight. Hopefully with the assistance of a 73 MNK/WAR to clear out stuff on the way to the statues, lol.
Crimson Orb: reusable?
Can the crimson orb keyitem be used to open the banishing wall as many times as we wish (say, to help others in the future), or does it disappear once the wall has been opened?
This was NOT fun!!!!!!
Surprisingly Davoi Was VERY easy. I Go the orb and after 3 dips in the pools i got party invite so i left, one person in my party still needed it so i brought him along. We Met a 56 BRD there and decided to bring him along. We Got the ORc Crest Fairly Easy.
I Did Castle Oztroja The Night BEfore. It was Fairly simple except the fact it took forever... The High Priest Aggroed me as soon as teleport-altep went through and i ended with like 20 HP.
Beadeaux was HELL!!!!!!!!! We went through the first time and got to the room with the crest. We wlk by niot noticing the ??? and accidently fall down, and the BRD gets aggroed by the Ruby quadav. me and the WAR make abreak for the zone we fell to and make it. We Come Back and then on the way back are aggroed by 3 EP quadavs. We made it with Benedictionand MightyStrikes with him having 20 HP left and Bioed. I Stupidly still dont have erase so i rested, cure II then rested and cure IV. Luckily when we went second time an alliance was forming to kill the adamant King. I see the ??? I make a break for it. Then i Notice, The Ruby Qudav starts casting Water IV. The Ruby Quadav casts Water IV Digidude takes 735 points of damage. >< i have 819 Health so i was still left in the 80s i touch the ??? and gain the crest, I RUN to the back of the room not noticing the other NM..... uh oh.... i hear.... Childre-en Of Altana. I Shall Ba-ath In Your Blood, Just Like I Did In The Ba-attle Of Jeuno. The Adamant King. ACK!!! I run, Za'Dha Adamantking hits Digidude for 1239 Points of Damage...... I didnt even know that was possible.... Anyways I see The Ruby Quadav hits Crogus for 156 points of damage. I say RUN Towards the ???. Anyways he ran the wrong way to the party that had just claimed the adamantking. They Said they would raise him after battle and thats where i left because i had to log. Also, The adamantking was out the same time as The Adamant Quadav so it isnt a rare spawn instead of it. Anyways I Finally finished Genkai 3... And My Conclusion? I HATE BEASTMEN!!!!
finished it last night
Did Genkei 3 last night.
Beadaux was relatively easy, I did that one while hunting my coffer keys there
Davoi was mildly annoying in that I didn't know I needed the orb to open the door, so I hurried up and did that quest. Things didn't get bad until around Oz when the DRK got agroed by Yagudo Priest ; ; We told him about ten times that the NM has true sight, but he didn't seem to listen :/ Oh well, it's over and done with^^
Very important note:
When the deeper parts of Qulun Dome. Don't go near the Adaman Quadav, this site failed to mention that even if you have sneak and invis on that it will aggro you, Which in turn will link the other 800 Qudav, half of them being HNMs. I have a snowballs chance in hell getting a raise2 way in here... Well back to HP with a near 2k exp loss...
To make it worse my Ninja 2 hr was 4 min away (>.<) [Alexander, 57NIN/28WAR]
just a note: when doing mini quest solo, first talk to taru,he asks you to touch wall to south of him. I dropped invis. touched wall, warped out. I coundnt take the agro and zone is too far away , went back to talk to taru. He gave me the quest.
miniquest
# May 15 2004 at 1:58 AM Rating: Decent
just a couple things to keep in mind when doing the davoi part of this quest. to be able to get the mini quest from the taru you must FIRST touch the wall of dakness directly south of the taru or have someone with you who has done this quest already in which case you dont need to do it at all and that makes it a breeze. Doing this is very difficult solo as there will generaly be at least 3 mobs that will agro you at the wall as soon as you drop invis and the window for doing it when they have their backs turned is very narrow. expect to get aggro and plan ahead. be prepared for a nasty run to the nearest zone after touching the wall. if you have a partner they can aggro everything to the zone while you do the wall which will also make it easy ;)
Buxu is a code I got today doing this quest.
Hope that helps...
My Genkai 3 Experience:
One party of four tarutaru the entire way: 60 WHM/BLM (me), 60 THF/NIN, 57 RDM/BLM and a 70 NIN/WHM.
Davoi was a snap. The RDM already had the Crimson Orb so we just followed him through the wall when he opened it. This indeed can be soloed. Unlike the other 2 zones, there aren't any HNMs directly blocking the way to the crest. According to our .jp friends, the crest had in fact been moved from previous versions of FFXI. It used to be much closer to the Hexspinner/Warlord.
Beadeaux wasn't too bad. We caught some aggro from a Steel Mithril and Gold Quadav, but lucky for us we had a high level ninja. Don't get lazy with that Sneak. ^^;
The real tricky part is zoning into Qulun Dome. It's a long run from the Mute past 2 afflictors and if sneak wears while you're silenced your only hope is to bring some Silent Oils.
I also posted this in the Ruby Quadav comments:
We got by Ruby thanks to the noble sacrifice of the NIN who subbed WHM for the trip through the Dome. Sure enough, Ruby was sitting there, dangerously close at all times to either the exit or the entrance to the room containing Adamantking. We Sneak'ed up and made a break for it when we thought he was far enough away. Unfortunately, he moved before everyone made it to the door and aggrod us.
The NIN had utsusemi up so he distracted him and the 2 adds he brought with him, and ran them back to the zoneline. Utsusemi disappeared fast and he was getting hit very hard so he blew himself up with Mijin Gakure while the rest of us rushed to the Crest and cast Escape.
The reason he subbed WHM? He cast Reraise on himself before detonating. When Ruby and company wandered back to their room, he reraised (no xp loss ^^v) and zoned out to recover.
There's an outside chance that the Castle O part can be done by a single person. The only real challenge is getting to all the brass statues quickly without getting killed (Priors will con EP to a level 60 and tend to be in the way). Do the statues in order (#1-#2-#3). Use the maps at killingifrit. It took our party 10 game hours to visit all 3 statues and make it to the passworded trapdoor. Just make sure people who do not know the way are following people who do and never separate. People who should know the way are the AF-seeking WHMs who come here to hunt Yagudo Abbots and people who hunt for Astral Rings.
Here's a tip that may or may not help anyone. We went when Castle O was crawling with high-level farmers and HNM campers (44 with a lot of anons at the time). There are always at least a few thieves in the area leading up to the passworded trapdoor, and if you're super-lucky people will be fighting the High Priest.
In other words, go when Castle O is crowded. You might get lucky and find your path largely cleared for you.
So I tried to solo the Davoi Crest last night and just simply got pwned. Not sure why this happened, but as soon as I dropped invis to talk to the Taru to get the quest, there were 3 Orcs on me, Dreadnought, Champion and Farkiller. Needless to say I died in a matter of seconds.
The weird thing is that they were below the platform and just somehow magically levitated up to lay the smack down on me. Can anyone offer some insight as to how to do get the quest without getting detected?
I've seen the high-level orcs trained right to the zone entrance, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened. In any case, what happened to you sounds like a fluke.
RE: Davoi
# Aug 09 2004 at 10:58 PM Rating: Good
THe orcs you mention don't spawn below the platform. The only orcs that spawn below the platform are fighters, sargeants, and cursemakers. If you got aggro and died from the higher level orcs, it means you probably did something wrong or someone else trained them to you.
Having camped on that platform for more than a few hours trying to get coffer key for my AF, I feel that I can safely say that if you got aggro from champions, farkillers, and dreadnaughts, you weren't paying attention and trained them to the platform with you.
omg ok we made it through=D the castle Otajus or w/e it called. then the RDM went to scout. well, i was just curious if anyone has ever fought the NM's? How hard are they? Can a full party of 58-60's bring them down, or are more people required...
from the sounds of all the people using sneak/invis... the Nm's shouldnt be messed with.
anyway sorry for the /rant ... I'm just curious if it would be easier to go through and kill the NM's... who knows, maybe even get some good drops! ^^ or to just sneak on through :)
What's the best way of going about lighting a torch?
I didn't see any safe places to recast invisy, and at no point was it safe with all yags looking away to take off invisy to light one. Also, some were IT to me at level 60, so they'd even aggro a level 75. Because of that, even having a high level helper seems it wouldn't work.
I ended up needing to use a warp scroll when my invisy was wearing =(
Its obviously possible or no one would be above level 60, so what am i missing?
best thing here is being a thief. i did the follow and it worked great for me (thf/nin):
Tonko > target a torch in one of the cornerrooms > watching the Yagudo in this room, if they look away > drop invis > light torch > hit Flee-macro > hit Hide-macro > finaly run in the upper center room with the Brass statue.
if you are here doing G3 then you can try&error the different passwords. we did this and it worked, because the day changed and we didnt want to check the other brass statues again :)
