Summary

Bring some Derfland humus to use as fertilizer so that flowers might grow in the late queen's garden.

Description

You need to examine Queen Leaute's Grave in Chateau d'Oraguille and then talk to Chalvatot, who is nearby, to get the quest. He wants you to get a Derfland Humus to help him maintain the Queen's garden. This drops from Doom Scorpions in the Crawler's Nest.

Have I Been Stymied?

I really hope that you can't completely ***** yourself out of getting this quest if you didn't check the damn tombstone first... I'm a completist, so I've just gotta do every single quest I can possibly do! I talked to the gardener first, and got a cutscene in which the princess or whatever shows up and talks about something, and then leaves. I check the tombstone, and it says something about "may she rest in peace", and I talk to the gardener again, and he basically tells me to **** off. Well, heh, I'm pissed off! (Just joking! :P) I have completed about 28-30 quests, one of which I have repeated about 10-12 times, and other about 5-6 times, and the Namonutice guy in the tavern says I have earned much honor or something (which I think is level 3 fame) and I still can't get this quest! Did I just stymie myself out of this quest by talking to the gardener before the tombstone!? Tell me it ain't so!!

Level 4 San d'Orian fame
Currently have Curilla's Bottle quest open (had it before I got this quest)
RDM55/BLM27 - Rank 5 (just completed Mission 5-1 in Fei'Yin)
Maybe this helps

I tried to get this quest, I am from Windy, but have level 8 fame in San D'oria, no luck. I then went and closed an open quest I had that involved the Chateau(the find the prince a bride one, you can choose to give up on it with no harm), then I went back and I was able to get the quest. I think you just can't have any other open quests involving the Chateau(the gardner says something to that effect if you try to get it with an open quest) Try that
Maybe you're both right...

I did not get this quest as a Bastokan with level 4 Sandy fame, but the discrepancies in the information and the NPC's comments about foreigners when I first sopke to him leas my to think that there may be seperate fame requirements for citizens of San d'Oria and for citizens of Basok and Windurst.

I have no proof of this, not enough data here, but I think it sounds at least mildly plausable.

im rank 5 with max sandy fame. however i cannot get this quest because i ahvent finished curillas bottle quest (getting water from horlais peak). you can get this quest before or after you ahve completed the curilla bottle quest but if you try to get this quest while on the bottle quest thenshe will tell you that you need to hurry up and finish *name of person cant remember* quest
RE: another req
# Jun 20 2004 at 11:51 AM Rating: Decent
I had this quest while I had the horlais peak quest. Im not sure which one I got first but I definitely have them both because I just did the Peak quest and am about to do the garden quest now. Im also Rank 5 with a lot of fame.
lvl 4 fame

According to the fame guide on this site, i have lvl 4 fame, and i was able to get this quest. So u do not need lvl 6 fame to get this quest.
Examine tombstone
# May 03 2004 at 9:12 PM Rating: Decent
yes, you ahve to examine the tombstone before talkign the quest giver. I have lvl 5 sandy fame and got the quest the other day.
Fame Lv. 4
# Apr 22 2004 at 4:14 AM Rating: Decent
I believe you only need fame level 4 ("Swiftmountain! You have become well known in these parts!") to get this quest. I was at three, did the bat-wings quest a bit, checked to see that I was at 4, and then I got it. I did not get it at 3.

To get into the Chateau, you have to have rank 3 in another nation or rank 2 in sand, not be on th mission for rank 3, because, the key item obtained after killing the dragon and doing the ohter thing is the adventurers certificate, which says that you are now a certfied citizen of all 4 realms
RE: Just to tell u
# Mar 01 2004 at 9:45 AM Rating: Default
Partially untrue... You have to talk to somebody *in* the chateau as part of M6 for rank 3 (at least I did). It's going to be mighty tough to talk to him if I can't get in teh castle because I'm not yet rank 3.

Quest Requirements

There are two definite requirements to getting this quest:

1) You need at least level 6 fame in San d'Oria. This is a fairly high requirement for a standard quest, so check your fame if you aren't sure. When you have level 6 fame, Namonutice (S. San d'Oria in the Tavern, K-6) will tell you, "I would venture that much the kingdom has heard your name. And your reputation sparkles! Indeed I am proud of you. And to think I first knew you when you were a new recruit!"

2) You need to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille. The requirements for this are mentioned below; being a high enough rank to gain admittance. This is one of only a handful of quests that do require a minimum rank to activate, but only so that you can gain admittance into the Chateau.

If you don't meet these requirements, you're probably not of a high enough level to find the map useful, so it's something of a moot point. Do some more quests/missions, and you should be able to get this quest in short order.
RE: Quest Requirements
# Aug 03 2004 at 5:10 AM Rating: Decent
He didn't say that to me and I still got the quest.

Also no one has mentioned yet that I've seen that you have to talk to him TWICE for the quest to active. He told me he doesn't want to deal with someone from another country the first time I talked to him. Second time I did (just a moment later) BAM! Got the quest. I had level 5 San Doria fame by the way.

i got this quest at lvl 4 fame, before finishing any in Chateau d'Oraguille, i was less that lvl 30 at that time too, rank 3 though so if you met the above and still didnt got the quest, then i quess u need to finish another quest to triger it.
Can't get the quest
# Feb 26 2004 at 8:13 PM Rating: Default
I'm rank 4 taru, with good fame in san d'oria, more than enough to get the drain quest easily...and the stupid woman wont give me the quest...pretty much BS if you ask me

did you examine the Queens tombstone first?
Question..
# Feb 15 2004 at 7:58 PM Rating: Default
Is there any other way to get into the Chataeu other than being rank 2 in Sandy or being on mission for rank 3?

I really want this map, to go along with my other extensive and almost complete list of maps lol as well as be able to enter the Oubelttle..i spelt it wrong, I know, you get the idea tho.

Suggestions?
Not just fame.
# Feb 10 2004 at 3:56 AM Rating: Default
Some quest require more than just Fame to get them. Some need a certain level, a specific job, a rank...it's not always about fame.Yes, fame is needed to activate it but this one may also require a rank to be acheived before hand. I was already rank 5 before I tried it, so I can't say for certain which rank is needed.

Unlocking this quest
# Dec 22 2003 at 1:32 PM Rating: Default
This quest requires you to complete the San D'oria quest, Growing Flowers, to unlock it (along with gaining entrance to the Chateau in the first place to get to the garden).

Most of the quests I've seen where people are confused on how to activate it require an earlier quest to be completed first, in addition to regional quest fame.
fame
# Dec 21 2003 at 2:39 PM Rating: Decent
I had to finish 25 quests in my home country to unlock this quest.

Also keep in mind that in order to acces the Chateau, you need to have Rank 2 from San d'Oria, or be on Mission 6 from your home country. That may be where the rank is comming into play with people's posts.
Fame vs Mission
# Dec 18 2003 at 1:42 PM Rating: Decent
I find it hard to believe people still have not figured out fame....well here goes.

You get fame for doing quests for the city you are in. The more quests you do the more fame you get. Doing a quest over and over again will also build up fame level but not as fast as doing multiple unique quests. So when it says you need 30 fame then it does not mean in any way shape or form that you need to have done so many missions.

Speculation
It is my understanding, though I may be wrong, Missions also count toward fame level. IF it is YOUR countrys missions. From what I can tell doing missions over and over again does NOT bring up fame levels. This may be one of the things that confuses people. They can not do a quest, so they go out and complete a mission they come back gain rank 3 and then go try the quest again and bam they can (Not because of rank but because fame was given for completing a mission.)
/Speculation

Again this is my understanding of the system. Hope it helps out some of you
Dont have 2 be rank 3
# Dec 11 2003 at 9:06 PM Rating: Default
i am the lvl21/10mnk that posted before and i finally got the quest.. ALso i AM NOT RANK 3 only 2 :) Just needed more fame as stated by the fame POST :)) i also have around 35 quests done now for sandoria.. Hope this helps
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 11 2003 at 12:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) YOU HAVE TO BE AT RANK 3 TO RECIEVE THE QUEST.
RE: IDIOTS:
# Dec 13 2003 at 1:33 PM Rating: Default
no you don't have to be rank 3. I just made level 18, and the first time I got into the garden I talked to the guy twice. The second time, he gave me the quest. I have not even done misson 2-2 yet.
RE: IDIOTS:
# Dec 11 2003 at 4:20 PM Rating: Decent
Just a note. Ability to get quests is based on fame! not level. not rank. FAME.
Fame is received by doing more quests.
fame != rank.
fame != job level.
I think this note should be posted everywhere so people finally get the idea.
Thanks.

I can confirm that you don't need rank 3 to get this quest because I got it before doing the Davoi Report.

He's refering to Bastok/Windurst people. If you're from one of those 2 nations, you cannot enter the chateau until you go to do mission 6: the emissary.
RE: IDIOTS:
# Jan 22 2004 at 6:06 PM Rating: Default
No he still didnt think before posting and even he did it wasnt long enough obviously. You dont have to be rank 3. if you arent from sandoria (like myself) I can get into the chatteau, because I still havent killed the dragon to get rank 3. Dont see why anyone needs a map I had so much fun wandering around the galciers for an hour or two hoping I didnt get killed trying to find the outpost lol. tho really, this would be a nice map to have i hope I can get it..
RE: IDIOTS:
# Jan 29 2004 at 11:59 AM Rating: Default
You dont need to kill the dragon, you just need to on mission 6, which allows you to enter the chateau.
