Worth getting? HAR! Dispel and Refresh are 90% of the reason people invite RDM to an XP party. A RDM without Dispel is like a WHM without Cure 2 and 3. Just suck it up and buy it.
By the way, NPC in Rabao sells for 64k.

I'm having the hardest time trying to aford Dispel and Phalanx. I said to my self i wouldn't lvl my rdm without them. Should Icontinue to lvl rdm enyway or wait till i can buy the two spells.
Buy Dispel before you level again, it's mandatory. Phalanx is good for soloing, but almost completely worthless in parties, because you can only cast it on yourself. Buy it at your leisure.
Is dispel ever resisted? Not having it yet, I have no chance to play around with it. I read from an ancient update from square that monsters once could resist this with high dark resist, but have never seen it. Even if it's not commmonly resisted, do even HNMs or people with strange ballista equip have a chance?
Edit- Since I've asked this, I've found one mob that resists my dispels, and does it often. Apocalyptic weapons in Ro'Maeve that are IT to me. I can only guess that it may be related to a magic defence bonus trait, or some other job/race specific benefit.
Yes, it can be resisted, but it has been very, very rare in my experience. I think in my RDM career from 32-56, I have only seen my Dispel resisted two or three times.
There is an easy way to get dispel and its by farming for it. I started to sell lizzard skins for 9k a stack yesterday and today i already got 54k. :) just a little more......
Not sure about Rabao, but high Windy fame will get you Dispel more cheaply too. At the high level magic shop in Windurst Waters, Dispel was about 76K when I first started the game. My fame level is 4 or 5 (not sure which, but there's few that DON'T know me now according to the NPC), and the scroll is now about 45K.
at an NPC in rabao, im not sure of the <pos>, but its a galka NPC at a shop, u can buy the scroll of dispel for a little over 35k which will save u a BUNDLE considering phalanx is 150ok and u get it at level 33 ><
Dispel is horribly expensive. I paid 70K on fenrir at the Jeuno AH. It is worth it and people will kick you out of a pt if you dont have it. Make sure when you get an invite you inform them that you dont have dispel yet. I have seen a misprinted guide from brady games that dispel was a darkness magic skill. My friend showed it to me and I laughed.
I finally got this spell yesterday, after saving some hard earned money. I cost me 69,500 for it at the Jeuno AH on Pandemonium. I have not been able to use it, but i am heading to the crawlers nest to try it out tonight.
Rabao is probably the cheapest place to get dispel. Unless you get lucky and someone is dumping one way below price in AH. Fame in Rabao is linked to fame in Bastok. I have lvl 7 fame in Bastok and paid 68k for dispel in Rabao. You can also pick up a map of the Altep areas and Korrakola(*sp) Tunnel in Rabao. Also, if you do go, don't forget to get your Altep gate crystal.
lol, you're both right/wrong. raboa fame is a reflection of your selbina fame, which is boosted by an average of your bast and sandy fame. so if you've done no selbina/rabao quests, and have lvl 7 fame in bast and lvl 3 fame in sandy, you'll have lvl 5 fame in selbina/rabao.
though this is just loose info, based on what formulas others have presented, and my own basic experience, i didn't do any long experiments. so if i'm wrong, please let me know. i know my fame there was quite high when i first got there because i had pretty high bast fame, and had done alot of selbina quests for jeuno fame...(i'm in the process of paying for this mistake now...)
Ok.. lets say I cast dia and poison on the mob. Then the mob casts cocoon and warcry.
(Yes I know that's not possible for a single mob, but this is an example. Let's say you are fighthing a Crawludo - or a Yagrawler ;o) )
Anyway, then I cast dispell... what does it do?
a) Take out cocoon and warcry b) Take out only cocoon or only warcry -I would have to dispell twice. If this is the case... which buff is dispelled first? c) Take out cocoon, warcry, dia and poison
What if i spell dia, and then I think the mob casted some buff.. but he didn't, and I cast dispell? Would I take dia out of the mob?
Stouter is correct in that it removes only one buff at a time. However, I believe that the order goes by the most recent to the oldest. So, in your case when you cast Dispel the mob would lose Warcry first. Then, if you cast it again, it would lose Cocoon. Try it out and see if it works.
From my experience, the order seems a little odd. >_> I would guess that there's a specific priority for all of the status effects in the game and in which order they are dispelled; I'm 100% sure that it is *NOT* chronological order. @_@
The answer is B, only one buff at a time. The order I am not sure of, or even if there is one. With Magic Finale (Bard version of dispel) I have found protect going on gobs when I want to get rid of their blaze spikes.
every RDM should have this spell.. if you can't afford it i HIGHLY suggest you farm(or craft, NM, etc.) until you get the money for it.. it is extremely useful, starting right in Garlairge Citidel(sp?).. this can take off a buff like protect or something, but is extremely useful for things like Crawlers' Cocoon(big defense boost, lasts for about 30 seconds) and Beetles Evasion boost(also about 30 seconds).. when these mobs have these buffs on the party hits for less then half of what they can, and with the evasion boost it is next to impossible to hit the mob
No there is no Dispel "Quest". It's the first real investment in being a RDM. Just thank god it isnt as expensive as Phalanx. This spell is ESSENTIAL to RDM'ing especially in Crawlers Nest. I got mine for 65,500 gil in jeuno AH in Odin server
