New Menu of Vana'diel: Tasty FOOD Effects List - Dec Patch!Follow

#152 Dec 15 2004 at 12:12 AM Rating: Good
I did an important experiment with Fish Mithkabobs and Boiled Crab so I might as well post the results here. Forgive me if this has already been discovered. I originally posted this on Gamefaqs.

First the numbers:

lvl 43Paladin/15Thief

97=base defense
220=total defense (base + equipment)

122=base defense with fish for a gain of 24 or 24.74%
276=total defense with fish for a gain of 55 or 25.00%

124=base defense with crab for a gain of 26 or 26.80%
271=total defense with crab for a gain of 50 or 22.72%

*Notes: I've triple checked these numbers and they are
100% untainted results. I've also subtracted 1
defense point from all 4 of the food totals to
cancel out the constant 1 defense that's added
from the 2 vitality. I figured the gain # and %
with the 1 point subtracted already to make
the results easier to study.

I'm doing some testing with some other jobs but so far it looks like the % gain is based mostly or maybe even purely on the actual defense stat and not on the job levels.

Regardless, these results show that fish actually gives a slightly higher % gain the more starting defense I have. Adversely, the crab takes a pretty dramatic plunge the higher my starting defense is.

I still need to do more research but here's a crazy theory: What if Square-Enix halved the mithkabob crafting results because it's the better food for higher level jobs?

I'm getting way ahead of myself though. Onward with the testing.

Oh, and once again please don't flame me if I am wrong or just stating something already well known. I've been away from the game since the update and I don't spend all day cruising message boards.

Update: I've tested crab and fish on a variety of job/leve/race combos and I'm now positive that the defense gains for both fish and crab are based soley on the defense stat itself. If you look at the gain percentages as a sloped line then crab has a very steep slope that drops dramatically as your defense goes up. Fish, on the other hand, has a very gradual slope that actually increases as your defense goes up. It seems, since crab also has a 51 defense cap, that after your defense without food breaks the 200 mark approx. you're better off using fish which not only gives a better percentage but also has a higher cap. I haven't had the chance to test it out but I've read that the caps are boiled crab-50, steamed crab-65, fish mith-90, fish chief-95. I'm sure about the crab cap but I haven't tested anyone with defense high enough to hit the 90 fish cap. Note that you will get 1-2 extra defense from the vitality.

Great job exilekiss! should still add if the food effects affect ranged attack/ranged accuracy and it would be great! ^^

Hey, just tossing in my own experiments. I haven't looked at all the replies here, so forgive me if this is a repeat:

Blackened Frog (NOT toad, this is stackable! Should last 30 minutes ^^)
DEX +2
AGI +2
MND -2
Attack +13.83% (+34 to a 56 DRG with 246 attack if anyone wants to check my math!)

as a NIN12/WAR06, saw that sole sushi was 40k a stack( :O ) and decided to try something that hasn't been listed.

so I tried salmon and ilm-long subs.

salmon sub: DEX +2 VIT +1 AGI +1 INT +2 MND -2 (no HP bonus, no attack or defense bonus, and no accuracy bonus I noticed; _definitely_ no evasion bonuses, as a NIN with traveller's mantle at 12 I could not evade for _crap_ against T/VT/IT)

ilm-long sub: DEX+3 AGI+2 VIT+2 INT+3 MND-1

basically, it's time to go cook up some jack-o'-lanterns >_<

This effect must be Taru only since my rdm only gets the mp bonus. I am Mithra RDM54/BLM by the way.

A new addition to the Sweets section.

Icecap Rolanberry now lasts 3 hours, gives 55 mp, 1 int, and 5 wind (i think). 55 mp and 1 int are for sure though. It is also unstackable.

Hi All,

Updated again; thanks again for all the feedback and info! (^_^) Some interesting points / questions:

1. Goblin Chocolate - Effects: This might turn out to be Job or Race-based for effects! I've had a level 50 WHM Tarutaru say they got Zero Effects while Healing or any other bonuses. But then ReiAyanami (75 THF, Mithra) has posted that she's gotten +5 HP While Healing! Very interesting.

Anyone else want to test this new Snack Food out? (^_^) (please state your Job and Race.)

2. Turtle Soup: Darkhorror thanks for the results so far! If you can possibly test any HP or MP Regen While Healing Bonuses that'd be great. This was a big part of the original Turtle Soup's effects. I will try some if there's any in stock.

3. Marron Glace: Job + Race based? Fng, thanks for the interesting info! It seems that even though Fng was a Tarutaru, on BLM or WHM, there was No INT bonus. But as RDM there was an INT Bonus (w/ Tarutaru). Then we have another RDM say they got no INT Bonus at all (non-Tarutaru). Hmm...

Anyone else care to try this out? Please post results! (^_^)

4. SuperTerrific, thanks for your testing! Yes, as I've updated in my OP earlier, it seems there is indeed a "Maximum Cap" for almost all the "Attack +%" or "Defense +%" based foods! With the great data we've gotten so far, I've included as many "Max Cap" #'s as I can so far.

5. I've tested out even more foods (see Original Post for new foods). Some pretty nice, new tasty foods again! (^_^)/

Enjoy.

Neither chocomilk nor cookies stack with mithkabobs(and therefore I assume other foods as well.) Cookies this could be expected but chocomilk is under drinks. Confirmed au laut still stacks with kabob so its not like they changed all drinks.

Well judging by the link in this thread:

Japanese players have done most of our work for us. That said there is still more work to be done, mostly what I state in what is currently the last post in that thread.

Over a certain attack number with meat dishes, you get diminishing returns and it's time to move up to the next meat dish. So, the "cap" before you need to switch to the next dish is listed below. That is to say, there's no point using mithkabobs at level 10 when Grilled Hare or Mutton (depending on your current job's ATK) would do the job. As a level 50 THF with 197 ATK, I just now need to start using mithkabobs. Otherwise, the effect is lost.

Some calculations for usefulness of meat dishes:

Grilled hare: 60 ATK (+15 ATK)
Roast Mutton: 111 ATK (+30 ATK)
Juicy Mutton: 130 ATK (+35 ATK)
Meat Jerky : max cap unknown
Mutton Tortilla: 111 ATK (+30 ATK)
Dhalmel Pie: 180 ATK (+45 ATK)
Dhalmel Steak: 180 ATK (+45 ATK)
Wild Steak: 200 ATK (+50 ATK)
Navarin: 111 ATK (+30 ATK)
Meat Mithkabob: 273 ATK (+60 ATK)
Meat Chiefkabob: 295 ATK (+65 ATK)
Coeurl Saute: 375 ATK (+75 ATK)
Yellow Curry: 375 ATK (+75 ATK)
Bison Steak: 500 ATK (+95 ATK)

Arent you forgetting the +STR stats between Grilled Hare (+2) and Mithkabobs (+5)?

So we have established that food effects differ by level due to caps on the percentage bonuses. What about the same food having different effects for different jobs/races? I seem to remember something like that mentioned in the POL update notes, but haven't really heard anything since, besides this taru rdm who says Marron Glace gives extra +INT but only if you are taru AND rdm...

Confirmations? Conflicting results? Similar experiments? Anyone?

Edit: I also suggest you add the accuracy bonus of sushi to the OP. It's stated to be 14% with a cap at 39 for all types. I personally can vouch for sole sushi having an acc. bonus.
