Care to explain why?

Yeah, thought not.

Still, at least I put a smile on someone's face today ^^

You are dealing with two different lanquage releases of the game. What made you think that the EU version would work with the NA version of the game? People have said that the NA version wont install with the JP version. On top of that you cant use a NA registered login on JP software so I would also assume that it wont work with the EU version of the game.

Thanks for the rate down just because I think things out logically.

So, you know, out of curiosity, would it be possible to use the Model Viewer to snag us all some images of the new equipment and NPCs? Now, I'm not sure if it's possible, since I'm having a little trouble just getting it to work with the FFXI release itself. Also, I'm not sure if all the list files and such have anything to do with what the program will recognize. I imagine that it might be possible, though, givin that most of that stuff should be installed to your PC, seeing as how you've got the expansion already installed. Just a thought. ^^

(Yeah, it's my first post, I know. One of those LTRFTP things.)

Incorrect. You can use JP POL (so you can type in Japanese) with a North American registered account. If you went to Japan, and used your login on an internet cafe computer running JP software, it would let you play. Also, SE have actually provided conflicting advice on whether the Euro version would work. See here for example.

Now we know: we have to import.

What ^he said.

Plus, there was a number of methods that had been speculated that could work and have been posted on several boards after several different conversations with GMs. I was merely attempting the suggestions so that people could see whether they would work. Thus, hopefully, saving on people buying the UK one and finding out that it never worked.

Oh, and it wasn't me that rated you down, I couldn't care less about karma, that's not why I post here.

Edit: Just read the post about the Model Viewer. I'll give it a go later tonight, never used it before so it should be... fun =P
And thanks neotamashii ^^

Oh wow, there are going to be Antlions in FFXI now! Woohoo!

Now only if there was an npc named Spoony Bard... :)

About the model viewer, there's a translated version here. Just follow the directions, makes life easier. (Spent a few hours trying to figure out the japanese version!) But, I don't know if it'll recognize the new files. Someone who has more experience with the program could give some more input, maybe.

Just a word of advice, don't listen to anything the FFXI Official Strategy Guide says. It gives really bad advice. The best way to get information on this game is to hang around websites like this and absorb as much information as you can.

Edited, Sat Sep 11 12:44:15 2004 by soyman

while i agree that there is a lot of bad advice in the guide it is in fact an incredible resource for many things. Monster level charts, equipment lists (though incomplete) quests guides, monster weakness charts, tables, etc. etc.

If you do not have a second computer at your disposal, the guide can be a GREAT resource, as long as you dont take everything as word of god. But then that's true about every website on this game as well...

The main problem with the guide is with the job/subjob and race combo pages. Most everything else gives pretty good information.

As others have said, completely wrong.

I have tested and used the following:

Full JP POL + JP FFXI + JP Zilart with NA POL login
NA POL + NA FFXI + NA Zilart with NA POL Login (in a different directory, but both work independantly from each other)

JP POL + NA FFXI + NA Zilart with NA POL login (Using registry hack)

I think what some people have been saying is probably right -- you simply can't register CoP yet.

This thread contains some good info, straight for a Playonline employee.
Clicky

I only skimmed through, but it looks like the american version and content ID's, have to be used with the american version of the COP expansion.

I ordered my copy from dvdboxoffice.com, So I don't want to know now in case I messed up Smiley: tongue

Did you try to register your COP ID on the NA POL Viewer ? That might work. and then you should be abled to run your now fully unlocked ID on the European version...

After all POL merely tells you to use your native POL to register.

Thing is, 50% of all posts claims it is possible after talking to SE and 50% doesn't so it's very shady right now..

I know what you mean ive spoken to 2 different people on the Uk hotline today 1 said yes he thinks the other said no but hes not sure.

Just typically annoying as they know a lot of people had imported game. Ive still got my original email I sent to the US support prior to importing it and they advised me it was ok to import it

I will probably not be able to cancel my pre-order anyway. Just have to wait and see on thursday.

I'm pretty confident that it will work, why shouldn't it.

It have worked between JP <-> NA clients so why shouldn't it work for EU.

Okay guys, I have been reading the posts from people saying JP + NA works, but you're forgetting something. You can play with any POL ID on any version. The problem comes when you try to register new services with different versions.

Gaharay, I know your friend can play using a JP POL so he can type in Japanese. But he probably registered his NA FFXI and NA Zilart serial codes right? He should be able to register the NA CoP with no problem. If he tried to import the JP CoP however, and installed it on his system, he would not be able to register on his NA POL ID.

Amaterasu, same thing. You may have tested all those different installs, and once you have registered your NA POL ID and Content IDs including expanded services, you can play on whatever combination you want.

The problem TheManikOne was having was when he went to register CoP with an EU serial on his NA POL ID. I don't think that's possible.

Registration is tied to your POL ID, and by extension Content IDs, not to your installation.

[EDIT: Fixed a misplaced apostrophe that was bugging me]
