The Final Fantasy XI Timer for Palm has been updated with a Skill Cap view that lists the skill caps for weapon and magic skills for any job and level. It is the first step to a skill chain calculator.

The source code was also reorganized.

I added Pilot-DB databases of Regions and Areas. Not to useful, yet, but I plan to expand it to include Monster lists and more.

I really like this and was looking into learning how to program for the palm just to make my own timer, thanks for doing this for me =P

Like I said I really like this tool, but just a few critizims that I feel would make this even better, dont you just love publicly releasing free software =P

These are all cosmetic changes that would help out with readibility and ease of use. Is there an easy way to make a background image?

Perhaps making an image that would seperate the top two lines which are always present with the lower portion would look real slick. Perhaps even a seperate image for each section that would have a GUI look instead of just plain white.

The + times can be very hard on the eyes with the seconds present and always changing, maybe just have the seconds appear for the upcoming day while the days afterward just show hour and minutes?

Maybe having the name of the days in their respective color would help out with distinguising from day to day and make it easier to see what day it is and comming up at a quick glance. Perhaps a background image for the upcoming days could include a seperator?

If you able to add images easily but havnt because your not a "graphics guy" I would love to contribuite images, just give me some dimensions ^^

Hey! Great job! However.. if your able to make a color coded one.. would be nice.
http://www.pyogenes.com/ffxi/timer/moocow.html

Kinda like these? I mean I just installed this now on my Tapwave.com Zodiac 2.

Works great just for feedback.

However a color coded version would be nice too and shouldnt be too hard or? Easier to look at then.
But if you need some testers, I am around and I am sure I can drum up some more attention over at tapland forums since they love new things for the zodiac. Hehe.

Now if I only knew what the correct time was.. =/ Not sure if its configured right or not.

No way, seconds are crucial for when you want to board an ariship, the ferry or make it to a guild just 20 secs before it closes.

What I'd like to see is to have the option to adjust secs, right now only has for hrs and mins, and mine seems to be off for 10 secs or so when the ariships arrive.

Oh, and rate up, excellent application.

I don't see how adding a background image would help with readability or ease of use. It just memory wasting coolness.

I guess the seconds can be distracting. One option would be to only show second for times less then a hour.

Colour is a difficult problem. I added colour to one line of the element information. I use labels to display almost everything, and they aren't suited to colour. The labals don't have a colour attribute and I can't control the colour when they are displayed. I'd have to switch to a different, more difficult, method of displaying to show colour.

Notice I said that this should be applied to the upcomming days section. Having 7 constantly changing numbers on one small section is really rough on the concentration skills. Like i said though have the NEXT day in line give the time with seconds while each day listed after it just give the +hour:min.

Boat times are a completly different issue and I never gave any ideas about changing those =P

For an idea of how it would help with readability take a look at your cable or satalites on-screen tv guide and then imagine all those grids without the grids.

But it really dosnt matter, I looked into adding images to palm apps and its extremely cumbersome, very restrictive and should really be delt with by the Palm OS devs.

Yes, I also looked into changing colors on labels and as far as i could tell the regualer old palm labels dont provide for much customization at all.

From what I've gathered today the Palm platform is a very aweful platform to develop for, thank you for making as much as you have on this app ^^

I thought you ment promotional art in the background. If you think I need more lines to make more of a grid, I might be able to do that.

I've found Palm has a good API. Its just that it doesn't support some of the more modern features very well to maintain compatability. They've made some major changes in PalmOS 5.0 and 6.0, but older Palms (like mine) don't support the changes.

Yeah, I think some lines like how the days get seperated by a line in the crafting section might help out a bunch,

I've been using this for awhile. Thanks for the great job you've done with this. However, I've noticed several minor issues. For example, the guild hours and holidays are not accurate. The fishing guild is closed on lightningsday, not lightsday. The RSE schedule has Galka spelled as Gulka. These are minor issues, as I said, but would like to see them corrected.

Also, I noticed you had some maps on your site in the form of a pdb file. Can anyone reccoment a program to view them with?

:: EDIT ::

I saw the maps on your site earlier today and must have missed the suggestion to use Plucker to view them. Great job on the maps!

Have you seen the FFXI Skillchain Extension for Firefox? You can find it at http://ffxi.xenoveritas.org/tools/skillchains/usage.shtml
It's called "FFXI Skillchain Tool." Pretty sweet, and if something like that could be replicated in the Palm OS, then I could do without FFXI breaking windower programs forever!!

Please, yes, please add a Skillchain Calculator!

OUTSTANDING!

Very good job! {/bow} You have engineered the best FFXI timer ever - definatly a tool I have drempt about for my old Palm for awhile. ^^ Rate Up.

I aboslutely LOVE THIS! I have a Tungsten E, OS 5.2.1, not had any trouble at all. This tool is small, simple and easy to use. So much so, I may buy a friend a Palm for his birthday.

I've been using the day timer for gardening for awhile. Using this tool makes timing feeds and harvests nearly idiot proof.

I recently re-installed to get the craft-timer and RSE schedule. Love it, love it, LOVE IT!

I noticed on the 3 May, you mentioned adding a Skill Cap view? Was that removed in the Craft timer version, or am I blind?

Thank you very much for the time programming and updating this!

edit: removed wording that made me sound spastic. Trust me, it was worse before the edit.

Here are things you can try if you are having problems getting the time right:

Make sure your local date and time is correct. You might be using the wrong year or something.

Look for a web site that shows universal time and use the time adjustment to make sure the universal time calculation matches.

The Skill Cap view was added around May 3rd and didn't exist before.

I am slowing working on the skill chain function. I've been studying the Firefox/Mozilla plugin carefully. As I play a mage, I need to learn the details of skill chains.

I'm planning to add more lines and colours, but I think most people would agree that skill chains is a higher priority.

The Final Fantasy XI Timer for Palm has been updated with the Weapon Skill view, which lists weapon skills for each weapon including the skill required to use it, the availability and level required for each job and the skill chain groups (in colour!). This is the second step towards a skill chain calculator.

I have changed it so countdown times only display seconds if the countdown is less then an hour.

Also, some of the guild holidays have been fixed.

I have also added a some Pilot-DB databases of things like zones and monster element weeknesses by family and a Plucker version of the maps from the Vana'diel Atlas.

This is super cool, I love what you have done and rated you up. I downloaded the timer and played with it a little bit, it's going to come in handy.

Next, I downloaded the plucker version of the Vana'diel Atlas, and installed it to my memory stick. Sadly, when I tried to open the program, I got a "Fatal Exception" error. I am now unable to access anything on my PDA, even after a reset. It keeps coming back to that same error each time.

I'm going to see if I can re-install the software when I get home from work, I am praying I have not lost the machine. I am not a techie person by nature and was wondering if you had any advice. Has anyone experienced this? I actually use my PDA for work, school and planning my upcoming wedding. I have the information backed up, but I would be very sad if I couldn't use the PDA any longer.

I understand that you download software from the internet at your own risk, but any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

so I am curious if anyone has created a database for tracking gardening and what you ahve done with it. Also what about a master list of vendors and what they sell?

I've released a new version of Final Fantasy XI Timer for Palm. It includes the long awaited skill chain calculator. I haven't tested it as well as I like, but give it a try.

I can only say thank you for the great app.

I have a small suggestion on the element view, could you add an extra row with the number 8 theory about the crafting gods:

"So following this pattern, the Crafting Gods are (edited)

Alchemy - Odin
Cooking - Alexander
Woodworking - Shiva
Clothcrafting - Shiva
Smithing - Ifrit
Leatherworking - Garuda
Bonecrafting - Titan
Goldsmithing - Garuda"

The Final Fantasy XI Timer for Palm has been updated with some fixes to the Skill Chain calculation. I have also recently updated the maps from Vana'diel Atlas.

I don't believe in crafting gods, but that the element day effects are based on the crystal you are using rather then the type of crafting skill.
