Suggestions for changing the MPK systemFollow

#1102 Dec 12 2005 at 9:40 PM Rating: Good
ok today i go out to Bostaunieux i charm a slime and when i get to my camp and release my pet sneak on wait for the slime heal it's self, well i am sure you know what happened next it respawns where i charmed it. All i can say is that you obviously have never played ffxi or never as a beastmaster, one of the ways i lvl beastmaster is by waiting for my pet to heal it's self after a fight but now it respawns at the otherside of the map it was hard enough trying to lvl beastmaster now it's even harder thank you very much for breaking beastmaster job.

almost no beastmaster will mpk people for fun those who do well you have GM's what do they get paid for? for telling you they will look into it, well it seem's so!

How dare you Square!

How dare you destroy the solo ability for beastmasters!

Fix this now!

Please go to the beast forum and explain why you have done this.

I hope you read more than just this thread on this forum.

Right, and swearing at the person who came to you for ideas is always the best way to handle things.

This is a mistake, I'll agree. But simply saying "F*** YOU, SE" isn't doing you any favors.

If anyone from Squeenix is still looking at this thread, they should be easily able to see the flood of responses in the forum that it's in. Let's just hope they either have an explanation for their reasoning, or an idea of how to fix it.

All of you guys that suggested stupid ideas to "fix" the MPK problem that didnt even exist are to blame for all this mess of the 12/12/05 update.

shoulda left the game alone.

I've said this already in another thread, but it's fitting to say on this one as well.

It is through the efforts of SE and the FFXI community, that MPK has been eliminated. However, they were not able to accomplish this without severely hurting some of their fellow adventurers, and putting them at odds with one another.

Bravo SE, good job! Smiley: disappointed

Kudos to the FFXI community too, you guys are a great bunch!Smiley: oyvey

This thread's title is meant to be sarcastic,

Ok, Square Enix people. Listen closely, I know you ALL must be feeling very happy, and opening the corks of your champagne bottles because today's (12/12/2005) update has been very succesful.

But, you overlooked one part of the whole community:

Adult players who can't stay sitting in Jeuno for hours looking for a party. We are mostly married, have 9 to 5 jobs (or some odd/weird work schedule), we have children, and we are players, too, SE. We pay just as much every single month, even when we don't spend as much time as the "hardcore players" in front of our PC/PS2 monitors/TVs.

Most of us loved you, SE, heck, some even worshipped you, remember, we were the ones that played Final Fantasy I on the NES, and have been loyal to you forever (I even played Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest).

But, today, looking to please the masses, whoever they are, you took the only job we had fun playing, and the only one that fits our time schedules, and because of an issue with player killing, which I am very sure is not 100% caused by BSTs, you just decimated one particular key ability that made the job good enough to solo. This ability's name is "Leave", I am pretty sure you know what it does, because it seems it was in your sights for a long while.

Maybe you thought we were "exploiting" the system, or that soloing doesn't belong in this game. But, I can tell you if it had been an "exploit", it wasn't a really good one, because the most we could do in an hour of leveling was around 3000-4000 experience points in excellent conditions, which is not even close to what a 6 man party can do in excellent conditions. Thus, we end up leveling at a much slower pace than regular parties, taking longer to go through the "grind" (Yes, it's a grind, SE, I admit to it, grinds are not good).

If soloing doesn't belong in this game, SE, then, you are basically giving us all solo BSTs a swift kick in our behinds, and basically telling us that, if we can't play for 3 to 6 hours straight + 2-3 hours looking for a party, we can basically quit the game, because we are not worthy of your excellent game system.

Square, remember, some of us enjoy playing MMORPGS without being forced into parties, but, still enjoying the sense of community provided by Linkshells, helping other players, and the complex economic, and crafting sytem for which FFXI has been widely known.

I won't take off for World Of Warcraft, or other MMORPG on the market, simply because they are NOT FFXI. And also, I do know they don't have the same sense of community FFXI has, thus, I will go back to playing solo games (Not made by Square-Enix from now on).

I am sorry for my friends on Siren Server, because I will miss them, even when they never understood why I played BST. I will still watch from behind my wife's desk when she plays her BRD, and be forever thankful for all the good times we had. And, I will be waiting, quietly, until the day SE repents and returns this job to its glory days.

I will miss you, Vana'diel...

P.S. Message to all BSTs across ALL SERVERS: Send SE your thoughts on what happened today, and how many, many players like me are quitting until SE restores BST to represent what it should.

Warchief, I'm upset over the update too. However, I don't think being a jackass is going to help matters. Ahkore posted here asking for player feedback. While they really screwed us bsts over, they did implement what players asked for.

Perhaps instead of acting like spoiled children, we should rationally express our concerns over this, and maybe SE will take notice. It's still early, and I doubt anyone at SE has really got wind of just how many people are upset. Give them a little time to work on it at least. They aren't going to be able to just magically fix everything instantly. It will take a few days at least.

One thing is for sure, hollering and swearing at people is one of the worst ways to get them to agree with, or try to compromise with you. It puts them on the defensive, and thats the last thing we want at this point. SE has shown that they are willing to listen, however I can't see them continuing to bother if all we have to say is complete garbage.

Just put things back the way they where, then make it so No charactor can leave any zone while engaged in battle. You either call for help and pray someone is there or die.

That will teach people to be more careful and also eliminate MPK.

Why are you singling me out? There's plenty of others who posted in the same tone, due to their initial anger over the situation. Your choice of words, and SE's track record, aren't exactly going to illicit any sympathy from me.

Sugestion:

instead of disapearing mob should walk back to spawn area and not agro or link until reaching original area.

I sugested this early in this thread and I'm sure other people have too. I think changing the update in this way would calm the bst community.

With all due respect, I don't understand why you would make the mobs dissapear rather than just loose agro/link until reaching home area. It would ease my mind if you told me "the reason why we didn't do it that way was because we aren't capable of programing it like that"... or "that will result in so and so a problem", or even "that would make the game seem unrealistic, that monsters would become docile because they aren't in thier home territory" (not that disapearing really makes any sense)

#1115 Dec 13 2005 at 3:23 AM Rating: Good
What I'm trying to say is

1). I think another update incorperating this or another reasonable solution would make many players happier and

2). If you can't do that, it would ease my mind at least to know why it can't be done.

theres a simple solution, CHANGE IT BACK. they got it wrong and they have to go back to the drawing board. end of. this isnt a job nerf, this is a job massacre.
#1117 Dec 13 2005 at 8:00 AM Rating: Good
I suggest making it so that BST pets do not disappear after being released.

Warchief I think you are being singled out because you do infact rant, and you have one of the most memorable and disturbing avatars I've ever seen. Seriously it looks like the ******* child of those Quizno's gremlins they used to have on the commercials (which gave me nightmares as well). You'll have plenty of time to be pissed later, calm down for now and see if SE does anything to fix it. If not, then blow up.

Thanks for destroying Beastmaster, the most independent and unique job in FFXI is now utter crap. It would not of been that hard to make released mobs behave differently to linked or zoned mobs.

You should join the SWG dev team, they seem to enjoy ruining the game they work on too.
#1120 Dec 13 2005 at 9:46 AM Rating: Decent
The only practical solution is for mobs to walk back to their spawns without being aggressive, instead of teleporting. Even if it only applied to released pets (zoned mobs and mobs that kill their player would still warp) then there would be no threat of Leave MPK, and BST could still effectively use their pets to solo.

It's a win/win situation, SE just needs to pull their heads out of their asses and do it. And fast.

Hopefully a useful suggestion in the light of the new update

Suggestion: Make it so that when a bst rests with a charmed pet, the pet will rest also. In the same vein as a drg+pet. Make charmed pet hp regen at the same rate it did when the pet was {/leave}d.

Bst can then keep their pet alive whilst still being unbale to mpk.

I'm sure SE knew what they were doing, and knew what was going to happen to beastmaster. I also doubt Ahkore would post any response to the community. Out of all the suggestions this guy was given, this is what they ended up with.

WOW, there goes Rdm's ability to solo their Testies. (as well as many other advantages this ability enables)

With EVERY positive aspect in this game there are some negatives. You can't have the good without the bad because if you did, you would be playing Magic Schoolbus or some other childs game rated for play by all pre-schoolers. No thanks, I like being an adult and making my own choices. Unfortunalty, SE thinks we are all children. Hmmm, wonder what gave them THAT idea?

Yup, great idea. Smiley: disappointed I hope they don't take THIS idea seriously.

Indeed. Might I ask talking like a gentlemen and making suggestions?

Or maybe take your anger out on a pillow?

Funny thing is, I'm twelve years old...

I do strongly disagree with the decision that was made. It would sort of be a silly idea, but personally I think that to make it not attack others until it returns to the nearest spot where mobs of its kind are would be nice. Once again, that may mess up some stuff...

Seriously though, don't swear him out.
