Agreed. Much thanks for everyone taking the time to post that they're having problems too, and what support is saying. First few times PoL kicked me off was annoying; the fifth time, I got worried. Hearing that it's not a problem at our end is incredibly calming.

You guys, stop being hysterical...serveral people have posted that did not do the update, did not download a new file of any sort and are still getting the error.

It is obviously server side and not client side, don't format, don't patch, don't system restore. The error is not on your computer.

You can get into your email and messages screen and POL wont crash until you exit those the the standard screen. Have to be semi-quick though since you only have a second or so to get in.

Been watching friends list log on and off for a while now.

well, it'd take them a bit to upload the "we're working on it" info

Since I dont know when it started, and judging only by when I noticed it was affecting me, I could say they're doing a pretty good time in getting around to fix it.

I do hope it's nothing serious.

Me too lol crash and burn...........

I think someone hit the nail on the head about sonys root kit and CD's

Just imagine them installing it on this game to monitor if anyones using 3rd party applications and over time refining it without anyone suspecting a thing and eventually once it's perfected re-releasing it on CD's with us being the beta testers and never even knowing it.

I smell a large lawsuit on the horizon........

Or I would be willing to guess like the other poster said it's pry just a buffer overflow error due to a bad program line or 2

Edit: Although someone did mention they un-installed everything and it totally crashed windows which is what happened to all the people who tried to uninstall the CD root kits....hmmmm......

yep thats excatly what i said all it takes is one extra letter or number and L:GENIOUDHFODYAUTOUADJGADYGUDA all messed up for hours looking for it or re writting the whole script LMAO MAN I NEEDA GET MY RPING ON!!!!!!!

Smells exactly like the buffer overflow someone described above. I don't give the hack theory much credit. Taking down the login server wouldn't seem to affect the news feed loading on POL - from a logical standpoint, they just seem utterly unreleated.

Also, I'm not touching the uninstall button at all, unless Square say it's the only way to fix it. I had a major system failure (the infamous delayed write failure (512 MB RAM + Radeon card with larger than normal memory appature issue)) about three weeks ago, and I know exactly how long a full system format + FFXI reinstall would take. My only comfort is, that if I were to face this situation again, I could do it at any time, seeing as my prospects for temping work exploded on Sunday morning.

Only to enlighten you, I also have the same problem. Obviously. BUT I know this guy who actually IS playing right now, who don't have any problems at all. He got on for about 2 hours ago nad has played since then without getting any errors. He also says that there are 3254 other players playing at the moment.

Unfortunately he got the problem as well, after all.
pumira, nope, he got the problem a lot later than most people did but he is playing on a computer with windows and everything.

hes probably on mac or ps2 since this is just a windows related issue as it says in square enix threads
#146 Dec 13 2005 at 8:54 AM Rating: Decent
Don't fret peeps. Square has taken note of the issue (a short time after this thread started) and they're trying to fix it as we speak. Here's a post from the site that's a little reassuring:

So...if there's anything else that might need doing, might as well try, because reinstalling anything (or everything) is probably just a waste of your time, and dangerous to your comp (as a few posters have noted). Let's all wish SE good luck and godspeed on getting this fixed! ;_;

Good god, I am in no way happy about this update.

I dun like that 100 people way out of my level range appear under party -> find member.

I dun like it when I'm soloing a mob in a safe spot and 2 mobs that people zone and have disappeared re-appear right on top of me.

I dun like it that I can't log in and support still won't be in for another 3 hours.

I guess unless you were one of the jobs that got some love, this update is Christmas crap.

I gots teh virus as well!

I can confirm that it IS the News Reader since I spammed friend list and got onto it before the error popped up. I am now searching for a way to bypass the menu to get to the FFXI menu screen. Will update when I can.
#149 Dec 13 2005 at 8:56 AM Rating: Good
Voila! I'm back in. no format needed. no hackerware found/destroyed to get in.
