Found this on wiki and thought it was kinda funny.
Historical Background on wiki wrote:
The term "paper" usually refers to a type of thin material typically used for writing. The fact that many songs, both the musical notation as well as the lyrics (sometimes together, sometimes separate), are written on paper is most likely the use of this item's reference to the substance. In ancient Egypt "paper" was sometimes made from Papyrus, used by scribes to write the doctrine of Pharaoh and used by minstrels of his court of songs to praise him. They were always armed with dirks, or short swords. The story of Bard AF involves the charming of a princess.
Let's ride the logic
crazy train!
Paper is a material used for writing.
Music and lyrics are written on paper.
Papyrus was made in Egypt.
In Egypt scribes wrote the doctrines of the Pharoah.
Minstrels of his court maybe wrote down some songs on papyrus.
Minstrels in Egypt were always armed with short swords.
The Bard questline involves charming a princess.
Therefore it makes sense that Bards would carry paper knives! It's because Egypt and papyrus and princesses!
And are there really people on the internet that have never seen paper before and need it explained to them? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_knife
Pretty sure it's just a letter opener. Made of metal.
