Actually that is not entirely true.

ex. 1000*1.6 = 1600

adding 15% instead
1000*1.3*1.15 = 1495

The break point is about 20MAB = 15%. (from the staves.) So for the 30% staves you would need about 40MAB to stay on top

check.

1000*1.7 = 1700
1000*1.3*1.3 = 1690

This applies from about 75D all the way to the end.

75*1.7 = 127.5
75*1.3*1.3 = 126.75

10000*1.7 = 17000
10000*1.3*1.3 = 16900

It should be noted that the more MAB you add the less the relative return is. For example lets say you have 80MAB to start, and you add 20MAB

1000*2 = 2000
1000*1.8*1.15 = 2070

Looked at my spreadsheet, and nothing I said about the pieces is incorrect. It all depends on how much you've already got, etc, as RCD pointed out. Speaking inside Abyssea, though, and going /rdm, you can start with a base of 24% (/RDM above 40), 50% (Atma of the Ultimate), 30% (Atma of the Beyond), and assorted gear (17% for what I had when I started using the spreadsheet - need to update with new pieces), you're looking at 121% MAB already. The extra 20 from the two swords that we've got now won't trump the additional 15% that the staves will generate. Outside Abyssea, without all the atma boosts, though, the swords become much more relevant (in this case, I'd only have 41% MAB).

Also, to Vlor, my seal/+2 item/atma farming group consists of THF, BLU, WHM, RDM, BLM run between my brother and me. Occasionally, we might have either a WAR, NIN, or BRD (depending on who we invite to join us), but that's fairly rare. Thus, my ability to handle Sword helps my particular situation. And keeping TP becomes more relevant. If you're able to handle WAR, NIN, WHM + grellow procs, then the whole situation would change.

More or less, I refuse to generally do math with Atma included, because not everyone has it, and outside of abyssea it is redundant, granted outside of abyssea is redundant. I only aim to show that it is situational in either regard.

Yes, which I knew but completely forgot about since I wanted to get the point across before I left from work. By the time I got back on to post a reply, you had already shown the point I was trying to make much more succinctly than I did originally.

I prefer running the numbers with and without the atma, as I want to know what to use inside Abyssea and what to use outside. And, since many of these Atmas are a lot easier to get than others (a PUG can do Ultima, for instance, assuming someone, somehow, still has a pop or is willing to farm it), it's worth showing general traits. Notice I didn't use both +50% MAB atmas, for instance. Just 1 50% and 1 30%. On top of this, I didn't use Atma of the Lion, which, for BLU, includes a huge boost for Charged Whiskers. Mileage may vary and **** is situational.

With or without an EXP ring? Because there's some serious implications if that was without.

It comes down to the old adage, **** is situational. Personally, I'd prefer to carry around 2 swords that accomplish what 8 staves would, less macroing, less inventory fail, and the ability to melee while nuking. Additionally, assuming you're running with physical atmas or generalist atma, I think the swords should do well, if you want to swap to mage mode for a small period and don't care about wiping your TP but have no reason to stop meleeing entirely. (even if you do stop meleeing, if you have any regain atmas the TP is now going completely to waste) most situations you'd be able to make use of it still.

Keep the staves around I suppose for pure nuking situations in abyssea, like Charged Whisker burning huge groups of mobs, where you'd already be stacking atma. But if you mostly play other jobs that can use Magian Staves, it becomes a huge pain to carry around 16 staves, even with a sack and satchel.

I'm not a fan of spending 30 minutes muling/using my safe every time I need to change jobs.

Anyone would prefer 2 swords to 8 staves, but would you really be carrying 8 staves? I'm carrying 4 and they were quicker/easier to obtain than the 2 swords. I've not found it worthwhile to gear for all elements at once. frankly, I use lightning+ atma more than MAB. I do alot more on charged whisker. I usually only use 2 elements at a time (lightning/fire) I only go for different ones on specific fights. ex: itzpapalotl go w/ water.

So far since the update I've seen xp parties in the Dunes and Garlaige for the first time in a very long time. And not during prime time, either. If players wanted to see more activity in the old zones, then the update is definitely working.

Why? :x

I was wondering the same thing!

Prior to the fix today, Ehrhard (A) was located in both Abyssea - Grauberg and Abyssea - Uleguerand. By changing the NPC to Tancredi, it eliminated possible confusion.

Bit of a late reply but Tancredi is already in Abyssea - Misareaux though. Right as you enter. lol. So now Tancredi is in Misareaux and Grauberg. XD

so jealous. I think I am going to re-download XI tonight. I've had enough of XIV. Just need to convince my gf to let me use her credit card...

Seriously - things are looking good in XI right now.

Painful that you're coming to that decision on the day the servers are down all night T_T

Pre-emptive welcome back, hopefully you'll be able to get back into the swing quickly. I'm enjoying it.

It will probably take me most of the (playing hours in the) night to re-download the game anyway - so no biggie. I also need to work around some complications with the credit card... really wish they would let me pay my sub with crysta - that was one thing that they did improve with XIV.

Seph did you join Asura? Or a different server?
