All I've ever seen is posts about how the Dunes is a horrible place to level which is such an obvious statement for so many reasons (I won't go into why the Dunes suck, we already know) and how Korroloka is JP dominated and it's very hard to find/make a party there.
My proposal: treat levels 10-20 as you treat level 32+
How do we treat these levels differently? Where do you immediately go when you hit level 10 (for most people)? You go to the Dunes, wait for an invite or attempt to make a party. It seems like the easiest thing to do since you've already been leveling in the adjoining zones.
Now, where do you go 32+ (again, for most people)? You go to Jeuno and wait for an invite. Since there are multiple zones to level for most levels, it's a better idea to just sit in Jeuno and wait instead of waiting in a zone since you could get an invite from a totally different area.
Instead of wasting time either in crap parties, no party seeking invite, dying constantly because of new players or waiting 10 minutes for a damn spawn so you can actually kill something....why not seek party in Bastok? If you're atleast rank 5, seek party in Jeuno...Bastok is only a 3 minute airship ride away. If you get an invite into a good Dunes party, the Dunes are only a Teleport-Dem and 500 gil away.
The reason I bring this up is because Korroloka is SO much faster for leveling and I despise the Dunes, but everytime I need to level in that range, NO ONE is willing to walk back to Bastok to party, and no one is EVER seeking party in Bastok or close to airships. I end up wasting hours leveling in crap parties in the Dunes just like everyone else when this all could be avoided if everyone thought like me! Hehe^^

I'm not sure what all the ranting about the Dunes is. I have read all over these boards about what a horrible place it is. I wasn't planning on going there because of all the negativity I read. However all the guys from my LS were there leveling their advanced jobs so I treked over. I went there for the first time 4 levels ago (WHM 13-17) and think it is great. Here's why:
1. There are so many players there. 100-200+ all the time. Compare that to Tahrongi canyon (60 if you are lucky) or the Maze (12-15 if you are lucky). I have never gotten an invite faster. I wish i would leveled my BLM there as well. Mages seem to be in high demand there. (so maybe it sucks for Melees but that is hard everywhere sometimes)
2. Close HP in Selbina. You die. You HP take a small Xp hit that you make up by not waiting for a raise. Get back into the action and make it back and more. If you are in the Canyon you can HP in Buburimu which is close, but a little further for the Maze.
3. Noobs? Newbs? All in the Dunes? Nope they are everywhere. I doubt there is a higher concentration of new/unexperienced players there than other areas for those levels. Just more of them since San Doria and Bastok are so close by. The Canyon would be the same if there was a major city near there to converge into with Windurst players.
newbs in the dunes is more a reference to those who are still getting sub for the very first time (hence the lack of knowledge). I hardly see people getting sub in Bub, I heard it was harder but never tried. I prefer Bub over Dunes for leveling at that level, hell I even MNK solo'd there for a full level and abit in a few hours.
newbs are rare and you should treat them with more respect. n00bs should just die... there's a heap of them out there >_<

You may be able to get a party to go to a XP place, but the bigger question is how do you get back?
You can't rent a chocobo from the crag, so after your XP session, you need to run back to sandy or bastok, take a airship (if rank 5) to jeuno and be ready to do it all again later.
I personally found that waiting in selbina to make a party to be very successful. For tank and healer, preference is given to rank 4+. If you get a few rank 4+ players in a dunes party I've found that they are very willing to wait as long as it takes to get the right jobs.
You may spend 40 mins putting a PT together, but you'll be making sooo much more per hour than if you just join the random invite that gets tossed at you.

I still blame the reason for Valkurm Dunes being hell on the noobs. When i say noobs i am talking about someone who either:
A) Leaves every party after they level
or B) Parties when they have to leave in 20 minutes and leave without warning. They give a quick bye right before they log.
I have seen this happen numerous times while in the dunes. I can understand if you have something that is priority, but leveling in the dunes takes 30 mins to get a lvl (assuming your party knows what they are doing) closer to an hour at lvls 18-19. Anyway, it is the looking for member time that really kills the parties. I can get 15k exp on my main easy in one night, in dunes i would be lucky to get 5-7k in exp.

Waiting around in a town to make a party? The thing is, at dunes level, only 15+ people can get a chocobo and that's only if they have a level 20 main. That and time is much more important when you're in a dunes party.

The real problem with the dunes cannot be remedied. You get players who have been soloing from 1-10 who go to the dunes and need to figure out their role in a party. It takes them awhile to do. Some players NEVER figure it out. They just don't understand the mechanics of the game, grouping, or anything when they enter the dunes.
And this will be a constant problem. You will never be able to fix this, because people learn from their mistakes, and the Dunes, are full of mistakes.

First, Welcome Ayvaen (and hiya). First time I've seen you post to the boards.
I agree with the premise that the dunes is where the newb's (not meant negitively) meet their first hard party situations.
I remember my first time as a Blm in the dunes and I didn't know **** about even finding my party on my map. Afraid to ask for help less the other players call me noob or kick me from the pt.Wondered why eveyones name was light blue but mine was white (tried everything to change it). All in all I think I had it easy. Would have been harder as a melee with sc or whm (was harder when I went back) trying to keep my pt alive in the dunes.
We all had to learn and we were all newbs at some point. I think there is a huge lack of patience when you have been to the dunes 3,4,5,6 times (maybe more). We all need to take a step back....and laugh instead of getting upset.
I was just back in the dunes for my Thf and am currently for Rng. It is frustrating to accept the silly mistakes and especially the attitudes (lvl 18 no sub telling me, as a Rng, not to pull...should let the other war pull).
It is the variety of people that make this game extremely enjoyable and sometimes frustrating.
Overall I have much more time enjoying the game than being frustrated.
Give the dunes a break. Its' where the rubber meets the road (as they say) and some people handle the stress better than others.
As for waiting for a pt in Bastok...I don't think so. I do put up my flag in Bastok when I am going to the dunes in hope of an early invite. If you get a pt invite from the dunes you are probably a whm and the pt will wait. If not, by the time you get to the dunes the pt that sent to the invite is full (as it should be). Takes too long to get to the dunes.
Additionally, you can't invite someone directly into the pt from Bastok. You have to wait till they are in Konschtatt or La Thiene. It is different when you are in Jeuno and getting invites from CN, GC, or EN.

I guess I should have explained it in the first place. I didn't because I thought it was obvious. This thread was basically meant for rank 5 players. Bastok isn't the only city you could seek party in.
My point was why go all the way out to the Dunes where it's either a long walk to Sandy or Bastok, or a death warp, to get home? It's very easy to get a Teleport-Dem if you happen to get an invite for the Dunes, or take an airship to Bastok for a Korroloka party...or even to Windurst for the Maze.
Maybe some of you like getting 1k experience an hour playing teacher to all the new players in your party for about an hour until they log and you need to invite another new player and yet again show them the ropes. This is just something I've done way too many jobs, having multiple jobs atleast 20+. I guess this is just my opinion. Maybe some of you like spending time helping out new players and enjoy slow parties. It's just not fun for me.
