I am the brokest mo fakky in the world right now. I need a way to make gil, without having any gil at all. No camping NMs... they suck.
Ok simple easy not much money. Change to a level 1 job and go kill easy mobs for Crystals. If you are in Sandy go kill Lizards in the outposts, stacks of fire are 3k+ Then sell anything else that drops for gil to put those stacks on sale. Also goto the grotto (if you are 37+ war) and just kill orcs, the money dribbles in but if you are strapped for cash you will get abit in a few hours work.
Not the secret to my success, but I've done it before when I've had no money.

I've tried that... Actually i did it alot, lol, my jobs are all lvl 7! (cept bst... i couldn't quite get into the swing of it)
This is the advice I offered to a person with a similar problem over on my main forums. You will notice that it does not give step by step how to make gil. But it does point you into whatever direction you want to start making your own gil.

There is no way to realistically make 1mil gil in a week. You *can* camp NM's with alot of compitition, and not be gaurnteed the drop. I dont like NM camping much, although I have done it on occasion.
Lets face it gear is expensive, and thus the need/want to make large amounts of money fast is not uncommon, but its unrealistic. Everyone that has great gear didnt get it overnight (unless they bought there gil wich is a different story) You are not going to lvl 1-75 without having to dedicate time to moneymaking activities among other things. Anyway all that being said, here are some helpful tips that may repeat afew things said. Everyone I know made their money in three ways. All of wich TAKE TIME
1: Fish ~ Take the time to get Lu Shags, it takes a L O N G time, but there is likely not much other compition in better ways to make gil, once you factor in time and total cost if compared to high lvl crafting. My friend can make 60K+ an hour fishing with Lu Shang, but to get there he invested 4 months of fixhing 10,000 moat carps.
2: Craft ~ High lvl crafting can knock out profitable HQ synths for great cash. There are alot of ways to make modest/steady gil this way. But it takes alot of attention and knowledge of the market, and the best way to gather materials. No one will hold your hand to lvl a craft, you are expected to find your own way. People will however offer advice. What I did was print off the recipe list from Alla found here:

And craft away, as for best craft, thats up to you. All crafts are pretty much equal in the end if you know your market. Some require ALOT of investment ($$) like Goldsmithing. Leather craft is good support for farming, wood is good support for logging and smithing is good support for mining, cooking I beleive is good support for fishing (thats what i hear, i dont fish much)
Farm: (Farm in areas typically 1/3 your level, you should be able to fill your bag without resting much. I have my favorite ares, at lvl 30 I farmed Tahongri Canyon, was not busy and had lots of good drops. there are many good places to farm. But NEVER farm in a EXP zone its jsut rude, and you will be competing for kills. Also know what stuff is better sold to Vendors, Dhamal meat is a good example. 600 to vendor, and does not sell that great on the AH Sell hides in Sandy, as they are used in Leather Craft sell Alchemy items in Bastok and clothcraft items in Windy. These are where the respctive guilds are. I'm not sure what level you are, but there are a few things you can do:
1. Farm yagudo in Giddeus: They drop gil, yagudo necklaces, and some bard scrolls, which can be sold. Also if you are using a lower level job, you will get wind crystals off them. Simple rule of thumb ---
Wind Crystal + Yagudo Necklace = 3 Spools Grass Thread
Earth Crystal + 3 Spools Grass Thread = 1 Grass Cloth
--- even if you don't continue the synth on through with the earth crystal, stacks of grass thread sell fairly well, especially in Windurst since the Clothcraft Guild is there.
2. Farm Orcs in Davoi: When you first enter the room with the large lake, the orcs there drop gil and also lizard armor (especially if the moon is good). If you go straight across that room into the second with the Beastriders and others, those are a bit higher level but they drop larger amounts of gil and scale armor.
3. Pashhow Marshlands: Goobbues drop tree cuttings and malboros drop malboro vines fairly often. The vines aren't stackable, but they are pretty good money.
4. Beadeaux: Depending on your level, Old Quadavs drop Quadav Helms and Garnet Quadavs drop Holy Maces (~2k each to vendor). I don't really suggest this place though, due to a recent swamping of the zone by gil sellers. >_<
5. Lower Delkfutt Tower: Gigas there generally drop between 80-100 gil each, though depending on your job they can be a difficult fight. Also the Chaos Idols drop Doll Shards and Mercury, which you can stack and sell on the AH for a good amount of gil.
6. Buburimu Peninsula: (My favorite place for when I need fast immediate gil) Kill Bull Dhalmels, which drop dhalmel meat EVERY time and very often drop Dhalmel Hides and Giant Femurs. Usually when I farm this area I'm in a rush, so I just run in a loop from Mhaura north and west all the way to the cliffs, killing as I go, then back down south and east until I get to Mhaura again. Once back at the city I just go inside and sell all my booty to vendor. Never really have to worry about inventory getting full, and it at least gets you enough to post more expensive items you might get up on AH.
Those are just a few places, there are certainly tons of very good farming places all over, you just have to kind of try different things out to see what you like best. ^^

Pax, great info... I've done the Tower, Pashlow, Beadeaux as well, I basically put a lowlevel guide cause as I was unsure of what he could farm with, but I do agree with your suggestions, and if he's high enough I suggest he goes with that. If you are going to do Gil drops, get THF sub with Gilfinder as well. or TH if you are going Goober farming. The Moss can be sold at Jeuno for a fair bit as well as people use it for Fame boosting in Selbina.

This doesn't apply to all of you. This is just a general statement. If someone says "hey i am broke. how can i make gil if i have no gil at all (other than camping NMs)?" The reply, "go farm, craft, and fish" is about as worthless as a crawler calculus. That is a non-answer. It's a given. We know we have to farm, craft, and fish. The question specifically (worded as a statement) was: I need a way to make gil, without having any gil at all.
You can't craft with no cash. You can get started on clothcraft for free, but you can't get high enough to make a decent profit.
Fishing is about as interesting as watching grass grow. It also costs money because you will need fishing gear.
As for farming, this can be done for free and if you know the right spots, you can make a decent profit.
These are all givens people. He knows this already.
Because some of you were actually very helpful and got rate ups from me for being specific in what to farm (no one got rated down), I will go on and tell you what I farm. I am not greedy, and if I have a way to make some gil, I am always happy to share with people. So here goes my list:
If you're below level 20:
Go go the Horutoto Ruins in West Sarutabaruta (the one north of Giddeus). You can make good money off of Goblin Thugs and Battue Bats. Goblin Thugs drop wild onions, and the bats drop bat wings. I see people also going for Goblin Weavers. They will occasionally drop a piece of material for clothcrafting (grass thread, grass cloth, cotton thread, etc), and they will sometimes drop some low level armor. I usually keep the armor and trade it at the outpost for a few conquest points. It's not much but it's better than nothing.
You can also go to Giddeus and farm Giddeus Bees for beehive chips. They spawn very fast, and they give decent drops. You can also farm the Yagudos for their necklaces. The necklaces dont sell for much, but you can convert their necklaces into grass thread which sell for a small chunk of change.
In Sarutabaruta (East and West), you can farm silk threads from Crawlers. The bad thing is that they don't drop as often as they used to. You can also go after the bees here too, but the drops in Giddeus are better.
Wild Onions: 3.8k-4.8k per stack at AH
Bat Wings: 1.8k-2.3k per stack at AH
Beehive Chips: 3.2k-3.8k per stack at AH
Silk Thread: 9k-12k per stack at AH (last time I checked)
Grass Thread: 900-1.2k per stack at AH
If you are 35+:
Go to Passhow Marshlands and hunt the hell out of Gobbues, Carniverous Crawlers, and Thread Leeches. Gobbues drop boyahdra (not sure of spelling) moss and tree cuttings. Thread Leeches drop beastman blood, and Carniverous Crawlers drop silk threads (at a higher rate too!). The leeches and crawlers have a fast respawn rate, so you will have plenty to farm. I noticed that you have better results here if you farm with a partner. An ideal setup is if you have 2 people with /THF or THF main (at least level 35). I did it with a friend who was level 42 MNK/THF (I was 36 THF/RNG). We were getting more drops than we could handle.
Boyadra Moss: 6k-8k per stack at AH (last time I checked). You can also give these to the guy in Selbina to raise your fame in Sandy and Bastok. He gives about 800g for each.
Tree Cuttings: 30k-44k per stack at AH
Beastman Blood: 12k-14k per stack at AH
After farming a few of these goodies, my suggestion is to take up gardening and start growing elemental ores. Make a mule and buy him about 8-10 porcelain pots. The recipe is as such (we'll pretend to grow dark ore):
Plant: tree sapling Darksday
Feed1: dark crystal on Darksday
Feed2: dark crystal on Darksday
Harvest: Darksday
Check your plant every day (just once, no need to check more than that).
These go for about 100k+ at AH. Your harvest results are variable, but using this method I was able to get it 60% of the time. It takes about 4 weeks RL for it to grow so be patient.
Use your tree cuttings to make tree saplings to save money. The recipe for tree saplings is (using brass flowerpot NOT porcelain):
Plant: tree cuttings on any day
Feed1: nothing
Feed2: nothing
Harvest: Windsday
Even if you choose not to use them for elemental ore, tree saplings sell for 8.5k each. So you'll be all right ^.^

Er, forgot a few places. Again, I'm not sure what your level is so I'm trying to kind of give you a wide variety of areas.
7. Tahrongi Canyon: Wild Dhalmels drop meat, dhalmel hides, and giant femurs. The drop rate is less than the Bull Dhalmels in Buburimu Peninsula. ALSO hides and femurs do not stack, so make sure that you are only taking your essentials with you when going to farm these because you'll end up running back to Windy with sacks full. Try selling the femurs to the bonecraft guild, you'll get more than a regular vendor and you won't fill up all your AH slots.
8. Palborough Mines: I haven't farmed this place in forever, so I'm not sure if there are many gil sellers there or not (>_<), but the quadavs drop some really nice stuff. I always sold everything to vendor. Especially the Fetich. Either you can collect the whole set and do the quest (which I don't have info for, check for Bastok quests) or sell them to vendor for ~200g apiece.
9. Labyrinth of Onzozo: (Note: Higher level only) Cockatrice drop cockatrice meat, which goes for a very good amount per stack. Also if you go across the first main room and down the tunnel to the left and left across the next room, you get to the SAM AF2 ??? place. The Goblin Miners right there drop gold ingots and mythril armor.
10. The Ronfaure Region: I started out in Windy and I pretty much stay around that area, the only thing I've ever done in Ronfaure is kill tons of bats and take them to the guy in North Sandy (can't remember name, sorry >_<) to do the repeatable quest to trade bat wings to him. Also killing rabbits you can trade rabbit hides to the guy at the leathercraft guild for some good gil (150 I think). I'm also told that if you're levelling a low job, you can exp off of funguars for dark crystals and the mushrooms they drop.
11. Batallia Downs: Tigers drop fangs and hides (fangs stackable, hides not) and the Treant which spawns in the northern portion of the map drops mistletoe (3k) and oak logs (4k) sometimes. This zone has been kind of overrun by gil sellers of late though, so don't plan on getting the treant while they're there.
12. Sarutabaruta Region: Crawlers drop silk thread and crawler calculi (which can be used for a repeatable quest in Windurst Woods). Also bees drop beehive chips sometimes which are stackable and sell for good money, or can be used for another Windurst repeatable quest.
As far as crafting goes... I'm poor and starting out at least, it generally takes more money TO craft than you get out of it. So I only have 23 Clothcraft, 23 Cooking, and 12 Fishing. Fishing's okay money, and if you want a Fishing Tunica or Fisherman's Hose, just let me know Fufet, I can spot you the materials and make them for you.
Sorry that I'm missing most of the quest info, but it can all be found on Allakhazam under the areas that they're given. Umm, these are all based on personal experience or advice from friends when I've asked where to farm. Most of them are based around Windurst because that's where I started, and I'm most familiar with it.

The Goblin Miners right there drop gold ingots and mythril armor.
10. The Ronfaure Region: I started out in Windy and I pretty much stay around that area, the only thing I've ever done in Ronfaure is kill tons of bats and take them to the guy in North Sandy (can't remember name, sorry >_<) to do the repeatable quest to trade bat wings to him. Also killing rabbits you can trade rabbit hides to the guy at the leathercraft guild for some good gil (150 I think). I'm also told that if you're levelling a low job, you can exp off of funguars for dark crystals and the mushrooms they drop.
11. Batallia Downs: Tigers drop fangs and hides (fangs stackable, hides not) and the Treant which spawns in the northern portion of the map drops mistletoe (3k) and oak logs (4k) sometimes. This zone has been kind of overrun by gil sellers of late though, so don't plan on getting the treant while they're there.
12. Sarutabaruta Region: Crawlers drop silk thread and crawler calculi (which can be used for a repeatable quest in Windurst Woods). Also bees drop beehive chips sometimes which are stackable and sell for good money, or can be used for another Windurst repeatable quest.
As far as crafting goes... I'm poor and starting out at least, it generally takes more money TO craft than you get out of it. So I only have 23 Clothcraft, 23 Cooking, and 12 Fishing. Fishing's okay money, and if you want a Fishing Tunica or Fisherman's Hose, just let me know Fufet, I can spot you the materials and make them for you.
Sorry that I'm missing most of the quest info, but it can all be found on Allakhazam under the areas that they're given. Umm, these are all based on personal experience or advice from friends when I've asked where to farm. Most of them are based around Windurst because that's where I started, and I'm most familiar with it.
Also if you go to http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.jp/ffxi/us/index.html
and click on the one that says Monsters, it gives you all of the information you could ever want about every monster in a region: level, crystals it drops, items it drops, what it's weak to... etc. etc. etc.

Ok, Windurst Waters go to Ensasa's Catalysts. You can buy sickles there for 112 gil each.
Take those to Giddeus and hunt around for Harvesting Points. They're fairly random, and spread out around the map. Just use your sickle on the harvest point. Some of them can only be harvested once, some over and over.
You will get:
Stacks of Saruta cotton: 4.5k-5k each
Stacks of Marjoram: 200g each
Fresh Mugwort: 5k each, unstackable
Stacks of Flax Flowers: Not sure of price
And all kinds of other things. The investment are the sickles, so you might want to take up harvesting after you've made some gil to support it. So far I've definately made far more money than lost by harvesting, and it's good for supporting the clothcraft guild because that's where you get most of your materials.

Ok it is a good practice to check your plants every real life day.
If you have moghancement gardening you can skip a day or two (but I still check them every day).
If you have a habit of checking them too much (you check them by using the EXAMINE button), then you will have a greater chance of growing little worms. If you check them too little, then you will have a greater chance of growing rock salt.
Anyway, try if you can to make a habit of checking the plant on the day of the ore you're making (check your plant on Darksday if you're growing dark ore). This minimizes checking your plant too much.
You won't be prompted to feed your plant for about 3-5 RL days. When it is time to feed it, a new button will show up called "FEED CRYSTAL".
When it is time to harvest, you will notice that your plant is glowing, and an option will show up that says HARVEST. When you click it, it will ask you if you are sure. If you say yes, it will tell you what you get. Cross your fingers and hope you get ore.
This is NOT an exact science. I started on gold beastcoins, and I got a variety of stuff (uncluding beastcoins). If anything you should break even. In the mean time, enjoy farming those locations, and you should be able to get a good 30k a day because those items sell pretty fast (except beastman blood which takes a few days).
