Not to bash anyone who does the same but...Follow

Do NOT use /say macros for anything except Raise which doesn't need to be spammed.

Why? I had a party member two nights ago names Baht,
a lvl 3x-ish WHM/BLM and his divine magic /say macros were spamming the screen that I've been forced to /blist the WHM.
It annoyed other parties and my favorite BST and linkshell mate too.

Highlight of yesterday night

I was leveling my WAR 37/NIN 18 in a party last night and suddenly, I see a shout coming from a Mithra 39 THF/19 NIN (San d'Orian Mithra, Akinor that went:

"lfp THF 39/NIN 19 afk taking a s_ _ _"

two minutes after he/she said
"afk taking a s_ _ _" in /say mode

Me: "Ooooookayyy... Thanks for sharing.
We didn't need to hear that..." (-_-x)

Well what ya know. That Baht guy? /blisted too.

Levelling my 37MNK two nights ago in CN. His "Altana Bless You." and "/em shines in white light" is a double dose of annoying. It's either turn on BOTH /say and /emote filters, or /blist.

I even had the courtesy to send him a tell that said, "please change your macros" to which he replied "; ;" and did absolutely nothing.

As a WHM, or hell, any class, other than TP/MP reports, WS/SC calls, and perhaps a party message about voke recast, none of your macros should have anything /p, /s, /em or anything that might spam up the window. I gave up macros with corny dialogue when I cast a spell/ability ages ago.

even /em macros get annoying.

Anyone who /em's on a Boost deserves the blist he/she gets :S

Oh well, I had one PT do it, and I explained, and they listened. They had all those /p things like: Prepare to die scum! I am using <fire>

Ugh....

Oh well ^^

I think people that use emotes 50 times a minute should be dropped in the middle of Ifrit's couldron with no armor or items and have all thier magic locked, and delevel to level 1 if they die......

Thats just my opinion though.... =P

Hmm, that is just /say!

I remember some WAR at the Dunes had the provoke macro in /shout, combine with some "I challenge you to face me, <t>".
#8 Jan 14 2005 at 1:45 PM Rating: Good
I remember seeing a /sh provoke macro while I was in an E.F. run last Friday in Qufim before.
And besides, players who do that need to be shot in the head for being morons.

Yeah, I was in CN a few days ago to see how a friend was doing. Baht was the whm in a neighboring party. I wasn't even there a minute before I was so annoyed with his double spam (a /say AND an /em) ever time he cured someone that I sent him a tell asking him to please change his macros. I got no response. I was tempted to /slap him every time he cured someone, but that would have been even more spam, so I just left.

Those macros were (sometimes) cool back when I was a newb in the dunes. They were dumb by the time I was a newb in Qufim. I now have exactly two macros with party chat in them: Convert (to warn the whm that I'll shortly be in double digit health) and Escape (to warn people that they better get close to me or they might be stuck with a mob that has suddenly lost all it's other targets). About the only macros I think should have party chat in them are TP, WS, Provoke/Flash, and possibly ancient magic if it's being bursted off a SC. There is no reason to have any other spells in party chat (except for things like escape/teles). Anyone who might also be casting cures/enfeebles should have their chat filters set so they can see you're casting it.

My cure macros are only used when there are more than one whm or healer in my party so I can give them a heads up on who I am curing, and they only consist of the spell name and the character name.

Gasp! I'm a San d'Oian Mithra. -pokes Embur with a stick-

/panic

Anyway, I hate people who do this too. >< I was leveling up BLM with my friend Alexionea and we had another mithra BLM (o.O.o.O.o.O.o) putting her macro saying in /say.

It drove me nuts >< because she would use the macro like 5 times even though her spell was casting. /sigh

I keep my macros simply saying what Im casting and what it does; IE:

(Nekole) .:Mages {Ballad}:. MP {Refresh}!

And so on.

(Buutttt~~ I 'spiced' up my Elegy macro to say: "{Slow} down, <bt>!" XD I'm so lame)

San D'Orian mithras REPRESENT! :p

/say macros do annoy the hell out of me. The only one I had was for my /flee, but I got rid of that too (why would anyone need a message to know that I'm running faster?)

Boost, provoke and cure macros in /say do my head in.
Also if I'm leading a party, I will tell people to take annoying <calls> out of their macros, particularly <call1> and <call2>.
I use keyboard sound-controls so it can only go so low, meaning I need the in-game volume controls turned right down. For some reason the <calls> still come out at full volume though.

LEARN THE WONDERS OF <call20> and <call21>, PEOPLE!

Well, I don't mind some /say or /em sayings, unless grossly overdone... What I hate even more is when people have macro text in /party accompanying an action nobody would die horribly if they didn't utter it. I can't count how many time's I've been in a party with a NIN who's ninjustu macros had accompanying text comprised of japanese gibberish, when you know good and well that jackass can't speak japanese, really, who are you trying to impress? I used to have macro text acompanying my refresh and efeebling spells, when I realized, I'm gonna do it anyway, who the hell cares? As far as I'm concered, you only need to apply text to your macro if you're announcing a 'voke (so no others waste theirs) utsusemi wore off and you need to be 'voked, followed by a recast, or using an ability involved in a skillchain. I have enough trouble spotting when my feebs stick with the existing attack lines without "Casting knights minne biotch, to boost our defenze to dopenez" or some ****. yeah, at lv 54, I've kinda figured out what it does.

Thanks For Making me feel so special ^^

But First I got Those tells and the first was STFU so I change my chat Filters to stop getting harassing messages. Second I know i got BListed and So what cry me a river. I do turn them off only when asked nicely and i have changed them so that they are off.

One More thing I'm Not a Noober. Just a creative individual using all possible resources. Plus I thought i'd try something different with my Third Character.

<ps> There are worst things in the game than my macros. Like GilSellers Zoning gobs in Gustav Tunnel, Camping NM, Buying out all the items in guilds, Bst zoning lvl 60+ Mobs, "12 Year Old kids" up at 4:00 am Eastern (meaning if you live in anywhere North America) majority of kids that age would be asleep but i can't speak for all.

So I thank Roukii for making me feel special that i'm being talked about online so now i'm known for being imfamous.
Thank you again ^^
Baht
just ask nicely becuase STFU doesn't work
Cuz you get Blist at first sight.
Have A Nice Day ^^

You may think your not the uber noober, you may even be a skilled WHM. But it all comes down to the fact of, what on earth makes you think that everyone within earshot needs to hear what your doing, or hear your /say /em macro every time you hit it. You can call it creativity, but its just ignorance. If you *must* use creative macros, limit the spam to your /party chat.

Its just principle, thats all. Granted a STFU may not be the best way to confront someone about it, but usually by CN level, *someone* *somewhere* probably metntion that people look down upon /s /em lines in macros, and you choose to ignore their advice/critism.

By a certain level, whether you agree or not. People *expect* other players to have some sort of working knowledge of the game. By CN level you are expected to know that /s /em macros interfer with EVERYONE in your general area and also expect you to have enough common sense to know that EVERYONE in your area does not want to hear that crap everytime you have to cure someone, wich, freaking seriously, is ALOT when your a WHM.

Thats why you get the STFU, people shouldnt need to "ask you nicely" This is something you should just know.

Haha just remebered your the WHM that took off, cause I didnt like the idea of having a lvl30+ WAR/10NIN in my party. So for the record you are an uber noober, Im not even going to get into detail about why I dont think its right people dont put ANY effort into their jobs. If you want to be a WAR/NIN BE a freaking proper WAR/NIN~dont lvl NIN to 10 JUST for dual weild, NO, a WAR/NIN has utsusmi and uses it damnit!

you may now /blist me.

As a whm even after awhile I saw that /p macros was getting annoying example: Casting Cure II on: <t>....I just deleted all the /p and just went /ma only...less clutter so I can see when spells wear off like paralyze or haste. This made my life alot easier as a whm and also turn damage shown from log to screen because as a whm you dont need to see the dmg just F8 to see :)

I have seen whms while lvling subs with /say or /em macros and I tell em that it does bug ppl around the area...normally they end hostile towards me so I just leave the party because once the water is rippled there is no point hanging around for the storm.

Last night I was leveling in the dunes. (insert Nam flashback here). And someone had their <job> <hpp> <mpp> macro in shout. I asked them to change it, I shouted how, and I get this. /sh STFU n00b {You can have this.}{Double Slap}. To see some asshat drag Shiva through the mud like that. Oh well.

Advice is awsome, but its really not nessessary to give it in /sh as well. Its probably better to use a quick /tell.

One thing that I am 'guilty' of is having a little fun with some random guy in /sh once in awhile. Sometimes someone says something (usually in dunes) and I come back with some smart *** comment, not insulting, more joking around. And this goes maybe afew lines, nothing excessive.

Thats when you get the fun ****'s going off, Blah blah blah, Take it to /tell. n00bs blah yadda yadda. I dislike excessive shout spam as much as the next guy~but playing around 'abit' with fellow players is different. Like I said happens moer in beginning area than anywhere.....jsut trying to make the best of them and have fun ^^

I am quite agree with Dexx about the advice in /tell rather than /sh.

Some people may be ashamed of being told with /sh on how to setup such a simple thing and /sh back with something like 'STFU n00b' to show that he actually knows how to do it and he was doing that macro thing with /sh in purpose. Even if that is not the reason, please try to tell anything to a specific person with a /tell command.

But still.. if possible.. please do NOT abuse /sh command. /sh command is there for us to ask for help if we know noone in particular in that area. It is NOT a command for us to joke around coz it is quite annoying for other people who are not interested in your joke especially in the XP-ing area where people need to concentrate with buffing and stuffs written on the chatbox. With /sh spamming around, the lines in the chatbox will go up faster and the mages might miss something like the MB for skillchain or the paralyna or other -na spells when it is needed.
