Faction indicates whether a card serves the Light or Shadow, or is Neutral with respect to this greater conflict.
All players, no matter how their deck is constructed, begin every game as Neutral.
Playing a Light or Shadow Unit, Item, Tactic or Ability card to the Playmat will move the Faction Meter towards that faction. When the Faction Meter reaches one extreme or another the player is now an Ally of that faction and some cards have special effects on game play related to that faction choice.
