ive done 5k no ele merits no potency merits to a guppy in sea with its mouth open and it asleep. its easy to assume theres other mobs out there that take X2 magic damageor even X3. 8k is not unreasonable but it is very very cool^^.
i'd love to know what race, area, mob that this was on

I can land for over 2,000 dmg on an MB, any given day. 4th level thunder potency, jupiter's staff, snow ring...
every level of burst II, you get more accuracy (less resist) and a bonus to MB damage. It would be safe to assume it's possible to hit 8,000 dmg on MB with it. But I have 1 question for you- was the monster a bugbear, by any chance? There's a BCNM with a bugbear that randomly gets extremely vulerable to magic, i've used thunder IV on him with crappy gear and done 17-- non-MB.
This spell does between 1300-1500 on it's own, assuming it isn't resisted or used against a mob with high magic defense. A magic burst with this spell will anywhere between 1700-1900, depending on the day and all that stuff.
I've been able to use it during Besieged for pretty consistent damage. Of course, it only does about 300 to the beastmen, but I would imagine it would do more against the Flan, Wamouras, etc..
Ah, I should note that the above damage is with 2x Thunder Merits and a Jupiter's Staff included. I'm a Hume, also, so take that into consideration. ^^
