Made this imaginary character just for fun to see how much mind is possible...
Can we say "Uber-Chi Blast"?
Fun,fun,fun
That MND is of course w/o spells or food and the eq is neither race, gender, or area specific...

Edit: I removed most of the eq just messing around... Vax below has the right idea though

Temple Hose+1 is better to have because it doesn't require your nation to be in control of the region and gives +4 MND as well.
Ok

Chi: The life force that is believed to flow along a network of meridians in a person's body and which is vital to their physical and spiritual health.

Etymology: It's chinese and it means either "Breath" or "Energy"

Ki: Derived from the Chinese word Chi

Its cultural meaning is "life force" or "spiritual energy."

Kay? Problem about the 2 words solved.

Also I don't know if Chi has anything to do with Magic Burst, but I would love to know if it does though.

"flow along a network of meridians in a person's body" -- correction: isolating the idea to the body is yet another misinterpreted conformation of an Eastern idea to the West. The West emphasizes parts, individuals, and dots. The East has built their train of thought to focus on relationships, connections, and lines. Chi/ki emerged from the Taoist principles of the intangiable fluxuation between all known elements, from human beings to stones. The best way to understand the infinite network is like understanding what effect gravity has on *all things*.

Energy is genki.

Ki is means balance/nature.

LoL, wow, everyone's a swing and a miss here. You can't give meaning to most Chinese/Japanese words for their idioms come from a perspective that can only be understood in its context of origin. Speaking of which, "chi" and "ki" are the same written character. Ki is the Japanese pronounciation of the derived Chi, which is Chinese. It's easy to just say "it means energy" or "it means blood," but it's an intangiable force that is in constant flux between living elements. Chi/ki isn't necissary "something". It's not a dot - it's the line between the dots. But in butchered lamen's terms its a combination of "blood, energy, and breath."

Chi is Japanese

I believe the word "chi" is blood... could someone look into this?
RE: Chi is Japanese
# Feb 15 2006 at 3:08 PM Rating: Decent
I am learning Japanese from a native speaker from Tokyo, Chi -IS- Japanese for blood,ground/earth,and wisdom to name a few ^_^. Btw Genki is energy. Its common to mess up japanese because one word could have SO many meanings. I'm not trying to offend anyone, just handing out the facts.

chi means energy dude
RE: Chi is Japanese
# Jan 17 2007 at 11:25 PM Rating: Decent
The biggest problem with this is that there is the word "Chi" for both Japanese and Chinese. So, to solve this, the Monk's are Chinese. Chi = energy, Genki = energy. We're done.

It seems like some of the posts down below are inaccurate, so let me clear something up. Chi Blast is not affected by your attk lvl - only by the number of times you Boost and your MND stat. In other words eating kabobs or using Berserk will not affect Chi Blast. Alot of people will look at attk to discern the number of times they have boosted, but attk itself has no effect on Chi Blast dmg.
LVL 41 is gonna rock...

OMG... I've been waiting forever for this ability! I know I'm prolly gonna be pissing off alot of tanks lol... come on, boosting = chiblast, then raging fists, and chakra... Lets see how much hate I'm gonna be pulling now... and they thought me just having chakra was bad roflmao!!!!
RE: LVL 41 is gonna rock...
# Sep 20 2005 at 9:10 AM Rating: Decent
Your goal should never be to rip hate away from tanks. I know that Melees, myself included, consider it a matter of pride that they are able to steal hate, but it is horribly counter-productive. Stay within the tank's hate threshold.

If the tank is any good that will be high enough for you to do plenty of damage.

If you want to get in as much damage as possible with this (@41-ish), use this equipment:

Head: Traveler's Hat
Neck: Justice Badge
Hands: Devotee's Mitts
Ring1: Saintly Ring
Ring2: Saintly ring (reccomended, if you have the money for the 36-+3MNd ones, go'fer it)

This adds up to a total of +13 MND. Get in 9 boosts, equipment change macro, and you should get loads of dmg. I'm only 40 mnk, but i know that MND effects Chi Blast, and +13MND...phew...hope this helps.

# Jan 07 2005 at 9:49 PM Rating: Good
lvl 75 mnk friend of mine (galka mind you) goes mnk/whm against the gods. didn't go into detail why he does this as i didn't wanna sound noobish, but he says he boosts full and uses Chi Blast, does around 1400 dmg. now whether or not this is a good strategy, i don't know, but he's awesome and kills the gods alot~ so i kinda go with his flow
oh ya, chiblast is affected by the MND stat
Weird
# Dec 17 2004 at 12:47 AM Rating: Decent
Oddly enough I know that Chi is Chinese and Ki is Japanese... why use the Chinese Term and not the Japanese term? But anyhow this skill is really rocking.
RE: Weird
# Feb 08 2005 at 9:04 PM Rating: Decent
ok that is complete bull, chi is not chinese and ki is not japanese!!! chi is your mental power, using your mind<thus y MND increases DMG> and KI is physical power <lame example but DBZ fighters use theyre physical energys<seriously goku doesnt have the brains to start a toaster, like he is going to hit someone with his mind>> then there is spiritual power<dont know what its called> and those are the 3 energys belived to make up the human spirit, so dont start with that ****
not to cool
# Dec 10 2004 at 12:49 AM Rating: Decent
okay this Ability rules i usually just sit there and boost before my Static Puller Pulls the mobs and i use Berserk with it also :) adds the dmg up....get about 100-200 dmg :P so this ability does not suck you just need to know how to use it

With the right amount of mind enhancements, and 9 boost, monks do over 1000 points of damage per Chi Blast during Kirin and Fafnir fights. 1000+ points of damage every 3 minutes is nothing to laugh about when a fight lasts 30 minutes. That's 10k damage. The only jobs can that do more DMG is a RNG and BLM.

Typically you bring 2-3 monks, and you rotate the monks in and out of your alliance. With 3 monks, that's a Chi Blast every minute.

The name is "Chi Blast," and to answer another question it does not stack with SAnTA because it is a ranged attack. Another thing people are neglecting to mention is that it is a unmissable attack so, as people have said the job ability boost is really worth it for Chi Blast. I do not however know if it is faster than provoke.

I really need some help. I'm a noob monk right now and looking forward to Chi Blast. I'm not really able to piece together everything from all these scattered posts so can someone please put this all together and explain how you use it with boosts and how/if MND affects how hard it is, and how to create a macro that changes equipment. Thanks for the help :) I'll rate up if i see a good post.

I thought this technique was called Ki Blast, not Chi Blast. Can someone confirm the name for me?
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 07 2004 at 3:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No, dont load up on MND equipment >< its not quit worth the space.i seriously doubt MND has ANYTHING to do with monk at all. Chi Blast always seems to do the same damage for me. TW-IT is always 20-30 damage.

To anybody who reads this post, please do me a favor and not listen to it. This is what you call Grade A Bad Advice. He has no idea how to play Monk.

Infact, if someone can delete it, that'd be great.

Alright, I'm not MNK myself, but I've seen and pted with enough MNKs to know:

Chi Blast damage is effected by the amount of MND your character has. Load up on ALL the MND pieces you can get your hands on once you're able to learn the Job Ability. Another way to highten Chi Blast's damage is to constantly use your other Job Ability, Boost. Use Boost and look at your Attack number (it's in Equipment, at the bottom). Get it high (I don't know... 250-300?) and use Chi Blast. You'll get some pretty nice damage which can never hurt (your pt at least... it's definitely hurt the mob ^^;).

Hope this helps. =)

Macro

I made me an awesome macro that is perfect for this if you wear a spike neckalce,

First Line: Using Chi Blast, ect
Second line: /equip neck
Third Line: /ja "Chi Blast" <t>
Fourth Line: /wait 2
Fifth Line: /equip neck "Spike Necklace"

Tht way, even if it isnt affected by mind it isnt a pain, it works well for me!

Boost
# Jun 26 2004 at 8:14 PM Rating: Decent
Boost stacks in that it increases attack rating every boost... you can boost every 15 seconds until it wears off (3 minutes)
With mithkabobs, Temple Gloves (Enhances Boost Effect) I was able to increase my attack to 870 and did 450 damage to an IT+ robber with Chi Blast... if you boost as soon as a mob is dead, and keep boosting til the next mob is pulled, you can make some quite impressive damage at the start.
