You sure you didn't cancel the effect? It lasted much longer for me.

I used mine on the boat and effect lasted until i reached selbina and zoned. I did round trip to verify that and same thing happened. i just loose the effect after zoned again. Today i'll try fishing in land and i'll time it.
Correction: 180 uses, not 30 ^^
I noticed that it doubles the time u have to real the fish.
Hoppe that this helps!

ok i just did the experience on land and the effect was on for 20 minutes which is the 20:00 hrs game time required to recharge it self again. After effect went off, i was able to activate it again right away.
It's a pretty cool ring when ur fishing skill is around 50 and u trying to catch soles, squid, grimonites, or emperor fish. ^^

Pirate's Chart Fishing Event

PLD friend of mine had a Pirate's Chart and I had my own sitting around gathering dust in storage so we decided to bang this one out. BLM friend came long. Basically, it's capped at 20, so at the very least, the PLD should be wearing some gear. Everyone should have decent weapons. In addition, each PT member should bring a fishing rod and bait (it doesn't matter what, as you'll catch stuff easily and the bait won't get consumed regardless).

Now, 3 NMs are going to pop: a crab, a kraken, and a sahagin. All three use the Hundred Fists 2-hour. Naturally, that could rip you up so there must be some way to reduce the damage, right? Fortunately, S-E threw us a bone with snares. There are two kinds, mithran and tarutaru. They can be obtained by fishing during the event. Using them on foes (same way anima works) will have varying effects. I recall reading somewhere that one nullifies the 2-hour and the other reduces damage per hit, but I don't remember which does what.

Anyway, here's how the fight went for us:

  • The person with the chart trades it to the ??? at Whitebone Sands in Valkurm Dunes. Once you click okay, the event will start and everyone will be capped at 20. At this point, the other two PT members may begin fishing. The trader must endure a few lines of text from a ghostly taru NPC, then may begin fishing himself. *Important!* Before you trade, make sure you have your fishing rod and bait equipped so you're not fumbling around! Everyone should receive a 'something caught the hook!' message and should reel in whatever they get. It should be a snare, and it should be VERY easy to work down to 0 stamina.
  • So now everyone should have a snare of some sort. It's helpful to have a snare order (I prefer alpha order, and I like to call out names during the battle as well). You'll pretty much have time for one cast before the NMs pop. After that, just get ready to fight
  • After a while, the taru taru NPC will be suddenly and possibly brutally dispatched. At this point, the crab, kraken, and sahagin NMs will pop. The BLM will Elemental Seal + Sleep the crab and the BRD Lullaby's the Sahagin. My reasoning was that I just wanted to get the kraken out of the way first (bad past experiences). Au laits and Yagudo drinks are helpful, particularly at this level when 2 hp/sec is significant. I overlaid a Paeon II and Minuet on top of that. The PLD'll go to town on the kraken, and the BLM and BRD should melee and assist the PLD while keeping an eye on their slept mobs. If the NM uses its 2-hour, use a snare.
  • Once the kraken is dead, move on to the sahagin. At this point, I find it helpful for the BRD to take over crab sleeping duties to allow the BLM to focus on damage. Just keep chipping away and the sahagin will go down smooth and easy as well.
  • At this point, the crab is all that's left and you can take your time with it. Even if it uses its 2-hour, you can easily keep the PLD out of yellow hp. You can even save your last snare for the last time.
  • Once the crab dies, a chest will pop. Open it up for 4 items. As far as I know, the Fuscina is a 100% drop (I've only done it twice though), as is this item, the Albatross Ring. Various other drops include shall shells, kelp, pretty much anything sahagins drop.

  • A couple of notes: At level 20, /WHM only has access to Cure so plan accordingly. PLD has the option of carrying a hi-potion or two, but I don't think it's a necessity. The Mercurial Kris drops from this event, but, if the success rate is anything like Mercurial Swords, I'll be doing this for awhile.

I think that about covers it. Note: With proper preparation, I'm convinced that just about any job combination can win this battle. I only chose a BLM for our 3rd because I'd read it worked. Having fought the battle, I think any other job would have worked just as well.

Alright Fishermen.. Here is the Story with the Albatros Ring.

    1. Must have Inside the Belly quest Completed and ready to go.

    2. Fish up Marlin and Trade to Zaldon.

    3. Zaldon (hopefully) will give you one of two maps>> Pirates Map or Brgadine map.

    4. These maps can be traded for Mini BCs in either Bubu or Dunes.
Brigadine Map in Bubu, Pirates map in dunes, both are lvl 20 cap BCs, so don't forget your lvl 20 gear.
