Maybe a good one for Maat fight

The title kinda says it all... i'm going to try this on my red mage Maat fight and post the details. Also going to grab one of these for my girlfriend for her white mage Maat fight (any extra defense helps when you have to survive for 5 minutes against that old *******).
Hmmm

Here are my observations from using it to skill up shield. On Earthsday New Moon, my stats increase by the following:

DEX +2
VIT +6
INT +1
DEF went from 351 -> 451

for those wondering.

the reason for 15.5% without buffs is because ur not 75. at 65+ i hear 18% and 20%, a 75 recently tested this he got a 26% defense bonus.

another input of mine. full buff + curry = INSANE amounts of defense.

a buddy said full buffs he had about 950 defense with curry he capped out at 999

but then again he had some Koenig and stuff but yeah 999 defense leaves room to remove some of that headache gear such as boots where you can get better boots with more HP instead of get useless +2VIT and 1enmity or something thats just an example lol thanks for ur time

Looking for a cheap alternate to Tavnazian Tacos, I gave this food a shot. As a 70PLD with all buffs up:

Without food: 598 DEF
With Black Curry: 691 DEF

Its an increase of 15.552% and a difference of 93. I'm not sure what it caps out at, but chances are its 100+. I did several other tests with different levels of buffs, always hit right at 15%.

Assuming you could get your defense over 675 (a 100+ bonus assuming the cap is over 100) then this food MIGHT be worth it over the more popular alternatives like Shallops, and Seafood Stew. The lack of a HP or MP boost also hurts in my mind, I generally don't need Acc. or Evasion as much as a PLD as I need HP and MP.

Edit: I used it on Earthsday and it added 2 Dex, 4 Vit, and 1 Int just in case you are wondering. Slightly lower than alot of the reports, so be advised. Its good food, but I don't think this can show up any of the other foods used at level 60+.

64pld. 328 def, no buffs.
Black curry.
+51 def for a total of 379.
Thats 15% dif.

I've used this off and on since the 50s, and i know this DOES give more def than that. There's gotta be some way we can figure out what adjusts how much DEF it gives.

Input plz.

I have used this food many times (level 64 PLD) and calculated the defense bonus each time. It has always been 25%, not 18% or 15% as stated in many places.

Also the cap is ridiculously high. I will post one set of numbers I came up with as a reply to this once I get home. :)

Things I haven't tested, though, are possible job (Pld vs other job) or race related effects, job level effects (perhaps it gives only 15% def when you are lower level).

OK, I'm skilling up on these and they sell slow. So, one day out in the Jungle I was lvling NIN and tried this. It works pretty good. However, I too noticed the varying stats.

I wonder if it's Day based.

On Darksday, it was:
Dex +4
Vit +6
Agi +2
Int +3
MND +1

Not sure about how much Def % it gives. I had a def of 76 as a naked 26 Hume NIN.

Update...

It's not day related. Firesday came and the stats are still the same.

Maybe the potency changes over time? I'm abour 2 hours into this one's use.

after all the possibly experiments I can think of. I came to a simple answer:

its not variable. At all. Doesn't change. The "known" stats for it were just wrong for some reason.

This is kick *** food, in line (sometimes better, depends what you're doing) with Tavnasian salad/taco.
Black Curry better for PLD who use Sword?

I think this is a better food for Staff PLD then it would be for Sword and Shield PLD because of the INT+2, which makes for a stronger Spirit Taker.

Other than the INT, Tacos boost HP and MP by 20, provide higher defense (albeit lower cap) and since they are stackable offer more flexibility. The worst thing about the 3 hr foods is dying or even worse surviving and party breaks in 40 minutes.

You spend the 30-33k on tacos, i'll buy 1-2 of these and have more gil. Tacos are just to exp to use for simple lvling parties, save your gil and buy schallops or these.

Seriously, it's not THAT expensive. Just farm a stack of silk thread and you can buy a stack of Tav Taco. It's a much better food than Shallops.
Real stats on it mark 2.

ffxi.cannotlinkto states the stats that the previous poster mentionned, but said that the boosts were "variable". I do not know what makes it vary, but a lot of people on the paladin forum and other forums mentionned different stats, all about the same, but different from what ffxi.cannotlinkto and the previous poster stated.

Many people said the gallant leggings were the trigger for this. It seems not so. I tried the food on my paladin, and it gave me quite nice stats, nicer than what is commonly accepted as the stats on this. I removed the leggings, and even switched to my level 1 thf, and the stats remained the same. Normaly when a food has effects triggered by a piece of equipement, such as the Opo-opo crown, the effects vanish when the pice of equipement is removed. Thus, it seems the gallant leggings have nothing to do with it. Anyway, the stats it gave me:

Dexterity +4 (bah, as i'm typing this i'm forgetting if its +3 or +4...almost sure it was +4)
Vitality +6 (that i'm 100% sure about, it was +6)
Agility +2
Intelligence +2
HP Regeneration While Healing +4
MP Regeneration While Healing +2
Defense +26% (not sure about the cap. Very high, as I was still getting 26% even with all my buffs up, including defender and sentinel. It was definately 26%)

Also, japanese web sites mentionned that it gave +5 acc and +5 evasion. I do not know about the exact number, but I checked a monster that would con "high evasion" without my lifebelt on, but normal evasion when I had my lifebelt on, and gambled hoping the curry would be enough to make it "normal evasion", if it indeed give accuracy. And it did. So I can confirm it gives a certain ammount of accuracy. The mobs also definately seemed to miss through flash a lot more ( the buffalos in the Range, quite powerful and accurate for my poor level 52 paladin, and flash was largely ineffective in making them miss until I used the Curry, but that could just be luck, so I cannot confirm this).

So what I can confirm, 100% sure:

on a level 52 paladin, it gives:

at least 3 dext

6 vitality. 100% sure.

At least 2 agility

2 intelligence

HP Regeneration While Healing +4
MP Regeneration While Healing +2

26% defence with an insanely high cap

some accuracy

-----

what I think it gives

4 dext, and some evasion

This makes it, in my opinion, the best food for a Sword&Shield paladin.

Tavnasian Salad/Taco becomes the best food, in my opinion, for a Earth/Terra staff paladin.

Sorry for the confusion and long post ^^ I realised I forgot some variables as I was typing, and didn't want to spread rumors.

I just did this yesterday, and came up with this.

Using AF, Ryl. Guard Collar, Glut. Sword, and other top end gear:

Defense w/Defender: 420
Defense w/Defender + Black Curry: 610

I know everyone says it's based on base def, however, from my experience, it would appear that it also adds a % based on your buffs as well (Defender for example).

That's +190 Defense, which breaks the "cap" of 144, perhaps the cap is 144 before buffs, but the food's effect does go up when you use buffs?

BTW, PLD Lv. 67.

Please check it for yourselves and confirm this someone, thanks ^^

I agree with what you say about all those stat boosts this food gives, except that it gives me +6 vit. Because I have a +12 to vit from my armor, and it boosts me to +18. Don't know if this is because of a piece of equip I have that enhances the effects of the food but I seriously doubt that.
Good for PLD?
# Jan 11 2005 at 10:30 AM Rating: Default
Steamed Crab is more VIT+ and more DEF%+. It also lasts for an hour and is stackable unlike the curry. I'd take Crab any day. n_n
RE: Good for PLD?

That and the vit+ on Steamed Crab is only +3 as opposed to +6 from Black Curry.

except that the max steamed crab can give is 65 def bonus, while black curry can give up to 100. However in that level range, you can also use shallop tropical, then seafood stew or tavnasian salad. The 2 formers are better defence/vit, the later is better overall... the black curry just have other nice stat bonuses that are interesting
