I caught the item first time fishing on that Selbina-Mhaura, and after reading this i was pretty great full. I was planing on dropping the item after I found out that it couldn't be used for what I thought it would be - extra storage for the Mog House.

where do i go to ues it?
I got this box now three times.
First I used for the quest. When I try to give the box to Naiko now, he says something but doesn't take it. Tried to give it to Nanaa Mihgo, and her cronies, didn't work at all.
Can I use it for something else? De-synth it maybe?

Decided to take a trip on the boat seeing how bored I was fishing in Mhaura. Fished a crab on the boat, and killed it easily enough (too weak to be worthwhile). Bronze box and Crab shell were only drops. Now I gotta go to Windy and turn in the box. Yay, run to windy /sigh

I'd already done the quest and was riding from Selbina to Mhuara levelling my club skills while I Phantom hunted and did the Selbina Clay Quest when I got the box again.
Point: To some Rare EX items there are uses even after their quests are complete. Is this one such item?

I was on the boat earlier today and one of these dropped off a crab my party was fighting. Everyone but me passed on it, and then the ship ride was over. After zoning was complete, the game gave me the message about losing the item because my inventory was full or I already had one. However, I had 12 item slots free and certainly didn't have a box. I wonder if it was like when you can't recieve a /tell because of zoning, only in this case I lost the item?
the ship arriving causes alot of problems... supposedly they are working on fixing all the bugs related to it
That and zoning period causes items in the treasure to be lost. This is why you should lot, if everyone else has passed on something.

I found the bronze box by fishing on the boat from selbin to mhaura. I actualy fished it up and was expecting something like a rusty bucket. I was like wtf....... but i found it by fishing and i was level 4 fishing....

It's part of a Windurst quest, but you need to do the first quest before you can do anything with the box
In Windurst Waters find the editor for the local newspaper. He wants you to find his 4 reporters(1 in each zone) and get their story for the paper.
One of the reporters has a lead on the Cat Burglars hideout but hasn't gotten to confirm it yet. Wants you to do it.
You have to head out to the Horontuo(sp) ruins and find the cat burglars lair. Once you confirm it's existance you head back to the editor and you'll complete the quest.
Talk to him again later and he'll tell you that the story regarding the cat burglar's lair has been stolen and he's sure it was the cat burglar.
You talk to her in Windurst Woods and mention that the story was put in a box and thrown into the ocean.

i took it to naiko, and he said that he had no use for the box. also it is in d-11, there is no b-15 on the map. not sure how much fame you need to complete it, i haven't checked my fame recently, but it has to be fairly decent because i've been building up fame for avatars.
bring it to Naiko-Paneiko (B - 15) in windurst waters...she gives you 1500 gil for it.
Um.. I have a box, I don't see any information here yet as to which quest it is used for..

I was in the ship. I've caught a CRAB with a bamboo and inexpensive lure at level 0 (FISHING=0).
The crab dropped the box.

The SEA crab does drop it. I got one off of a SEA crab the other day. :P

i got one from an ocean crab fished from the selbina -> muhura boat with clothspole and lugworm

*= NOT the sea crab, the Sea MAY drop it, but I've never seen or heard of it happening. Ocean Crab dropped it on my second kill.
