I've had this since i was Level 60, got it from the BCNM the first day it came out, nailed 3 in a row not bad for our little setup, im 75 now, and what over 6months has past since this item was first introduced.. Why is it everytime im walking around in Jeuno i get a random tell from BLMs and any other job that seems to want this, asking me for it.. i tell everyone 5MILLION (Greedy No, this Neck has kept me company for a long time, im not going to give it up unless i could find something worthwild to replace it.) most people are glad to pay it, but its hardly ever on AH, Why does a 75BLM need this? i mean isn't there anything better at that level
Just bought it for my BLM (for 950k, history was averaging 1 million); I'll give my rationale.
The stole is usable at just 61, but you won't get much out of a few extra INT at that level, and while you're partying in that range, elemental skill and knowing what resists what are more important to keep your spells at full, not half or quarter, damage.
But when you hit 75, or when you join a party that isn't fighting for 160+ base xp a kill, stacking even more elemental skill on top of your A+ rating doesn't really cut it. You could add 10 skill and go from 12% resist to 8% resist, if even that... not really meaningful. Save the elemental torque for all those frustratingly resistive HNMs you battle. Instead, put on a Philomath stole because every 2 points to INT adds about 5-6 base damage to every unresisted series 4 spell. Now use the elemental staves, day of week, weather, and magic bursts to amplify that damage boost.
Good info! Alot of ppl forget to take in the day of the week (which applies also to enfeebles and the strength of an Avatar) and the total boost INT points do to spells. I know as a RDM I need every INT point and staff addition I can get to help my feeble nukes not be a waste of MP when Exping. Think I'll do the BCNM for this one. Rate up. ^^

This is sold in the Jeuno AH. In Garuda, last sold log was for 600k.
But it hasn't been on sale for weeks. I check the AH literally every time I log for it and have not seen one for sale. Wish I would have bought it when i had the chance O.O

I just bought this yesterday in Garuda for 800k. Only 1 was on sale. I started the bid at 500k and decided that 800k was the max i would spent.
My logic for paying so much?? At 65 I can get the Elem Torque. That goes from 800-1mil in Garuda. I'll just swap these come 65th level. Gettng from 61 to 65 is a long time, if im going to spent so much money on a torque come 65 i might as well start early with the Philomath. ^^
Useless? Hardly. This is cheaper on Quetzalcoatl than the elemental torque (260-300k vs 500-650k) Besides, it's useful for bridging the INT gap for some races (Galka)
Just a quick note, I'm a blm, on quetzalcoatal, and this item has only sold 3 times. Sure it may have sold for less than an elemental torque, but by the time another sells i'm sure it will be a lot higher in price. Your not the only person with your eye on the Auction House waitin for one of these to pop.
Ummm, at level 65 (when you get the elemental torque) the +7 elemental magic skill from the torque is going to be way better than the +3INT from this stole. Thus, I'd say this item is of limited use (i.e. only when you're at levels 61-64).
Okay, I think we can both agree on this: Getting from level 61 to level 65 is a lengthy process. Also, +to elem. skill magic only keeps the magic from being resisted, it doesn't add damage. Black Mage Skills are like this: INT: Adds Damage to spells (The higher the better) Mgc. Attk. Bonus: Adds more damage to spells Elem. Skill: The higher, the less chance for the monster to resist. Dark Skill: Same as above.
Besides, not all of us have 650,000 gil to spend on just +7 Elem. Magic Skill. I'd personally take this over the Torque. Until Brisengamen.
